REALLY don't like that second part. Philbins authority being tested strongly here. This could be a moment where he establishes rapport and authority as a leader of those men, or sows the seeds of discontent and mutiny.
EDIT: After CK made me aware the interview is available, I listened to it and it gives a lot more context. Dansby wanted Chad to get three strikes. He did say he felt the guys in the locker-room would have stood behind Chad, but the organization didn't... but he DOES say "I'm not gettting paid to make that decision" and that the organization probably has more information and facts than he does. he actually says that TWICE... wich is all I would have hoped to hear. The lesson for me is to not believe the media until I hear the guy speak with my own ears. (It still would have been better for Kalros to have this discussion with Philbin in-house, not on the air).

Worth mentioning that Philbin and Dasby stood to the side of the field together at the practice bubble and had a tlk. Dansby's arms folded across his chest didn't suggest it went perfectly.

As I said before, I'm glad he's chirping about it. To me that means Joe Philbin actually just moved the needle with this message he sent.

By the way, THIS is the weakness of Philbin's that Fin Nasty and I didn't like. Seeing that he doesn;t naturally get certain types of player to open up and feel rapport with him in these situations. Some guys can connect with people and smooth stuff over very easily. People skills, you know? Philbin is more straight-laced and wooden, imo. Emotionaless, and that's harder to relate to when discussing any issue that involves emtions.

I think we can now safely say Joe Philbin is the anti-Cam-Cameron. There can be no doubt who is in control of the locker room.

Will you be happy if more players begin to question the coach... and about more than just Chad? Breeding lack of belief in his decisions leads to not fully trusting your head coach. No bueno.
Especially if Dansby speaks for the whole team.
All I ant to see is ANY hint that Dansby or most other teammates are SOMEWHAT supportive of Philbin. A statement like "IT sucked, but he did what he had to do." or something.ToddPhin likes this. -
By the way, it's making more and more sense to me why Joe Philbin, on Hard Knocks and in interviews, really places a lot of emphasis on Matt Moore being a great leader of the guys who is well liked in the locker-room.
I think Philbin knows his best strength isn't bonding with the guys. He is smart enough to know he needs a player who can help him control the locker-room mood and mindset.
He really needs not only Dansby here... but Matt Moore to endorse his decision. But how does Moore feel about Philbin now that he sees Tannehill getting more 1st string snaps? Will Moore support Philbin as much as Joe may need it right now? -
Ugh... Dansby is supposed to be a leader on this team. He's supposed to be buying in to what the new regime is selling, and helping and encouraging other players to do so as well. Not going out publicly and complaining that we cut a headcase WR that we're better off without.

Why does it have to be so freaking extreme? You're making Dansby's words out to be way more than they actually were. It's like the choice for you either has to be fascist suppression or tyrrany of the mob...can't be something in between, has to be one or the other.
You're sensationalizing this whole thing. A popular locker room personality just got cut and some players don't like it. It's not the first time they've questioned decisions made by the coaches and front office even in the Parcells era, and it won't be the last time.

Yeah, let them all stand up and complain, then cut every single one of them. Dansby said he speaks for the whole team - did they vote, did they all sign a petition? And frankly who cares if they do or don't like whats gone down. The decision was made, now shut up and play, or for that matter make a ****ing play. I don't want to hear the self proclaimed "best linebacker in football" who doesn'ty make many game changing plays tell me about how everyone else feels.
No one asked how he felt, and when I say no one I mean no one that matters, not the coaching staff, not the FO. The radio show host is irrelevant to just about anything aside from taking up dead air. Johnson was already on thin ice for how he acted previously, he was warned about how he represents the organization. He didn't fully understand - now he does.
Dansby doesn't have to loike his coach, who cares if he does. The coach isn't there to be nice or firendly or have people over for dinner later. He's there to lead them, and most of the time people who are in charge are not liked, but liking and repsecting what Philbin says is different. I could care less if the players like what I say to them, thats up to them. But they damn well better hear it, or they'll be packing their bags.
Not everyone likes the laws ofr a country, but you'd better stay within them or you get locked up, plain and simple. Its the same principle. Philbin is Dansby's boss, it doesn't matter whether Dansby agrees or not. They don't get paid to agree, they get paid to play. This is a case of the inmates trying to keep control of the aylum and someone else making sure they get a kick in the *** as they are put back in their cell.
I hope Philbin said the same thing to Dansby as he did to Chad "you don't have to agree, but you better be prepared to act on it". Simple as that. No one's aksing what you think, there's a reason why Karlos, because we don't care - just make a tackle and play the game. Because it's a slippery slope. I am not saying it's *already* the tyranny of the mob but when you study interpersonal dynamics THESE are the first steps towards disrespect.
It begins with bristling at and question the other person's avtions and intentions, then an escalation is considered disrespecting them publicly. Now we can argue if this was disrespectful. I'm sure you will say it wasn't. I'm not sure it was either, but it is verging on it in an employee-boss situation like this.
I am not saying the sky HAS fallen, or IS falling, I'm saying I dislike the clouds in the distance.
(and yes, I tend to be extreme in nature. guilty as charged there. lol.) -
I guess I don't quite understand why everyone seems to be spinning this whole situation into a positive. Our WR corps is weaker and the players are upset that he was let go. Doesn't matter if it's the right decision or not, whose to blame, etc. etc. There is disharmony right now in the locker room and that's not a good thing. Joe Philbin needs to get the players back in his corner or this could turn into Cam Cameron part II.

Has Dansby gone on the radio to question or show his displeasure about what Chad actually did, or was involved in? Has he shown displeasure for Chad putting himself in a position where he could be cut? Philbin wouldn't have to consider cutting Chad if Chad had not in fact been arrested. Whether the girl is nuts doesn't mean much. Why? Because Chad still married her, that was his choice, no one else.
Choices do have consequences. You do stupid things like marry a crazy woman, or the other side of the coin, go around headbutting, slapping or whatever then you will eventually deal with consequences.
If this didn't happen on Saturday Chad would still be a member of this team. Dansby should redirect his issues to the person(s) who made it happen, and its not Philbin, this mess landed on his desk.siciliansith, dolfan7171, MrClean and 1 other person like this. -

Agree with most of this, especially the bolded. I would get this snuffed out asap. Thus my thought that if Karlos acts even MORE out of line after this talk, Philbin could consider sending a message by giving Trusnik or Spitler time with the first unit (either at MLB, or wherever they're currently playing on second team and shift Misi to MLB for one game). That message would be: PLay well and be a good soldfier, and you are rewarded, while those who don;t and aren't lose privileges.
That said, I have no idea how that Dansby and Philbin conversation went or ended. It will be must-watch TV on Hard Knocks if they captured it. -

In my opinion, Philbin needs Matt Moore's support in that locker room right now. If YBell were here, that would help but he ain't... I think YBell wouldn't have loved all of Chad's chatter. lol.

I'm listening to the interview.
First off for context, Dansby answered a bunch of tough questions about their performance Friday. He said they didn't execute, they need to work hard, etc. Rosenberg even pushed it and said it seemed like on Hard Knocks we have all these things to be optimistic about Garrard having a good camp, Chad Johnson, the team looking good in practice, then suddenly Garrard's injured, Chad Johnson's arrested and off the team, and they go out and suck in the preseason game. Karlos took it, said they need to do better. He never pointed out that it was meaningless preseason action, said that even if it's not a meaningful situation they need to play better and prove things to the fans.
On how much of a distraction it is for a football team that was already trying to get past Brandon Marshall being traded to Chicago...he made it clear he disagreed personally with the situation. He's upset. His belief is that a guy should get a 3rd strike, that the organization should have stood behind him just because it was so out of character for Chad to end up in this situation. He wasn't ranting. He wasn't saying anything bad about the people that made the decision. He disagreed and said it's his personal opinion.
And you know how he finished it? And I guarantee this doesn't make it into ANY of the media reports about it...
"But the organization felt a different way about the situation, and they probably have more information than we know, and so they had to do what they had to do."

Dude that;s called common sense and having lived around people long enough to see how things work. Your evidence is life experience, so perhaps your focus has been elsewhere, but mine has been on understanding people and the dynamics of how they relate.
Says Me. But that's only my view. You're free to disagree, and I certainly can't prove it to you. Nor will I scramble for studies. Though every abusive relationship goes through a spectrum that starts small and escalates. No, I am not suggesting Dansby is abusing Philbin. But if you want to read about and understand escalation of negative dynamics between people, there is a lot of material on how the first little signs begin and progress to worse displays. -

You just don't give up on people, especially when you know their character and you know what they're all about. But if you don't have a clue and you have to make a hasty decision, there's a lot that goes into it. Like I said, I don't know the logistics of his whole situation, and maybe the organization does, and maybe they just felt a certain way about the whole situation where they needed to part ways. I don't make that decision, I'm not getting paid to make that decision. It's a decision they're going to have to live with. It is what it is."
