Called this in a thread the other day, you could see it coming.

It would be a huge risk at this point.

Heard on the radio today that Luck and Manning have formed a nice relationship, but no way they'll be teammates. I believe that came from Luck's father.*

With that said, isn't Manning's contract impossible to trade for? I rather just draft my own franchise QB and see if Moore can build on what he's done here.

A healthy Peyton Manning makes us a relevant team for about two maybe three years. I am more on the side of us building a dynasty and I think that starts with a young franchise QB in place. However... If we miss out on Luck, Barkley, and Griffin (which looks like a posibility) I would only settle for Landry Jones if a Peyton Manning was in place to "groom" him for the next two years.
I am willing to throw in all cards for Robert Griffin. I think he is going to be awesome in the NFL and I hope we get to draft him. Barkley would be great as well. Hell no to Landry Jones or Brandon Weeden...I'd rather sign Manning and draft Jordan Rodgers the following year.

Peyton Manning tutoring Andrew Luck next season in Indianapolis? While it sounds like a dream partnership, Peyton's father Archie doesn't think it's such a good idea.

"I don't think it'd necessarily be great for either one," Archie Manning told FOX Sports Radio on Tuesday, according to ProFootballTalk. "I think Andrew's the type of mature player ... he can walk right in. I mean, these other three or four guys that are playing this year, they can walk in and contribute, Andrew can, too."

The heck with that. The last thing we need is another broken down QB to come in here. Until shown otherwise Peyton is done. Draft a Qb in the first. Even if Peyton gets healthy he has what, 3 years left in him. I want a long term solution, not another stop gap halfhearted shot in the dark.

This is a move that will blow up in the face of the Dolphins. Does anyone really think that Indianapolis would come close to getting rid of Peyton Manning if there were no doubts about his ability to come back from this neck problem? Buyer beware! Franchise quarterbacks that aren't damaged goods do not hit the free market. Peyton will not be traded unless Indy can truly hoodwink someone, because no one is going to pick up that $28 million tab. If Manning goes, he will be released and free to sign with any team. Again though, why would Indy release Peyton Manning if they are getting good reports from the neurosurgeons who have been evaluating Peyton through this process. Do not forget that it was a bulging disk with a pinched nerve that ultimately ended Dan Marino's career.

This is where you and I disagree KB. Peyton cost 28 mil just for next year while Luck can be had for less than that for the next 4/5 years plus leaving enought money to resign several great players. Indy will be stupid to do otherwise - besides Dan Snyder and The Shanny's are foaming at the mouth over the prospect of Peyton in RS colors! Plus they have the money and the will to make it happen!

Because a first round quarterback is a sure thing........

If Peyton Manning hits the open market (which I think he will), the Miami Dolphins better explore that avenue. This doesn't mean that they cannot draft a quarterback in the first round by any means. I don't foresee Manning and Luck on the same team... either the Colts will trade down and pay Manning that $28M bonus in March or they'll take Luck and release Manning in March.

Manning isn't going to Washington because of the lack of talent on that team, IMO. I think he'll end up in Miami, New York, or San Francisco, personally.

Indy has two options; luck or peyton. ( NO ANDS N NO BUTS)

Of course I'd rather have Andy luck.

No one is going to trade for Peyton Manning. The risk is definitely too high to trade anything for him because of that large contract. Manning is due a $28M bonus in March (maybe April, but it's before the draft) where the Colts will have to decide whether to void out Manning's contract or take on the remaining five years. I really don't see the Colts taking the route where they keep Manning because that's a lot of money to invest in someone when they will have a rookie quarterback (Luck) who will want to start right away and likely won't want to sit three or four seasons.

If Manning is anywhere but Indianapolis in 2012 it'll be because he signed with that team as a free agent. No one will be trading for Peyton Manning and his massive contract.

Painter was drafted in the sixth round... you can't tell me that the Colts believed Painter was expected to be the future franchise quarterback by any means. Brett Favre wasn't exactly a great mentor to Aaron Rodgers so I don't understand why you would bring in Manning to be a mentor anyway. You should bring in Manning to take over the reigns for a few seasons while letting a raw quarterback prospect (Matt Barkley would be the ideal choice, IMO) develop.

Colts never cared about, signed or thought about grooming any sort of backup QB.

He didn’t mentor Painter because Painter was never going to start as long as he was there. Brett Favre effect without the ego, arrogance, and general jerk-ness.

The phenomenon of veteran players tutoring rookies or new guys is vastly overstated by the media and fans anyway. Veterans aren’t going to teach the new guy how to replace them.

I've seen too many people have neck surgery and either not ever get back to 100% or have significant problems within a very short time of their surgery. In fact, I saw a patient on Friday that had a fusion done in 2009. Guess what. I sent her back to a neurosurgeon today to evaluate her for surgery again. She has spurs and spinal stenosis a level above the previous surgery. It almost always happens. Within a short time, these patients have to have surgery again either a level above or a level below where the previous surgery was.

Not that this makes anything official of course but Tony Dungy was on ESPN radio today and said he did not feel Peyton would be traded , that he didn't feel Peyton would want to play for another team and also said he felt you take Luck if you have him rated as high as the consensus to date has been.
