How reliable are they?
I could see it, but I've always heard they're not the most reliable source in the world. -
Not worth it for a late round pick. A 3rd, maybe. But if he can produce on Special Teams and do anything at WR he's worth keeping IMO.

well we can't trade right now, so at the earliest it would be during the offseason.
i could see it but like you said lucky the article is just.. meh -
This is NOT to bash Ginn, but I do think he is a goner. I think the FO tried to trade him a couple of weeks ago and the deals fell through. Why else were the rumors about Steve Smith or D. Bowe or Braylon Edwards being mentioned.

Here's exactly how "special" Ginn really is.
For his career, he has:
2 TDs on kickoffs and 1 on punts. That's right - those 2 last week were his only ones ever.
His punt return average is 8.9; kickoffs, 23.7. That's including the 200+ yards from last week's game. The picture was far worse for his entire career before those.
Receiving he has all of 5 TDs in 2 1/2 seasons. His average reception is 13.2; yards after the catch, a pathetic 3.7...this season, an even more pathetic 0.9.
And against those 8 total TDs for 2 1/2 seasons' work, he has 3 fumbles - and, of course, those drops, many in key situations - not to mention the cowardly way he avoids contact and visibly, physically cringes when double-teamed. And his alligator-arms...let's not forget those.
So...what do you think we could get for this darling of Dolphin fandom?felly smarts, PSG, brandon27 and 8 others like this. -
If Ginn can be somewhat consistent he will prove his place on this team as a returner, and prove his worth. But the only reason anyone would drop a high draft pick on him is for his return skills, and it's not like we exactly have anyone that can play a threat like that.
If we could pick up a 1st, maybe a 2nd, I'd bite probably, but god knows no one would burn that on him. Heck even a 3rd is probably out of the picture unless he has a crazy return game for the rest of the year.
If we find someone else who can do returns though, he'll be out on his duff for less though.Bpk and dolfan7171 like this. -
Late round pick? whats the point. then our special teams will suck again.

And yes his receiving TDs over 2.5 years are pretty bad, but how's it compare to our other WRs? All of our WRs are essentially not very good (in most areas).
And yes he may have 3 fumbles, but how many lost fumbles?
0.
Also, as bad as he's been, he's been our top scoring WR every year he has been here.like2god, FINintheMOON, Tone_E and 2 others like this. -
That article could change drastically by years end IMO. We're only 7 games into the 2009 season. There is a lot of value to be determined (good or bad) from here on out with regards to Ginn.
If we were trading him right now then i can see it's validity, but guess what were not looking to trade him right now.dolfan7171 and padre31 like this. -
IMO, people are overreacting with Ginn. Yes, it's year three, and yes, he's had awful drops, but he still has plenty of potential. There is still a lot of the 2009 season left, and I really believe Ginn will show us a lot in the coming weeks.
If people choose to discount the multitude of return touchdowns he's had that have been called back by irrelevant (imo) penalties, that's their choice, but just because they don't show up on the stat sheet doesn't mean he didn't have the skill to make that play.like2god, dolfan7171 and Tone_E like this. -
And what WR on our team has done more than him?
Plug Bess into all those stats you have above and see how much better Ginn looks.
Fact of the matter is he has more value to this team than what he can get in a trade. Whether we trade him or not we have to go get a #1 - and having a #1 will make him exponentially more valuable (getting the other team's #2 CB and not getting constant attention from the safeties). -
Oh I could see Ginn being traded, but certainly not for a late round pick.
If there is one thing this regime does know, it is how to value it's own talent, a late round pick for a #2 or #3 wr and kr?
Why? That makes no sense, but then again, it is an internet article.. -
-
But hey, if you find comfort in finding ways to ridicule the player that makes the biggest difference for us against the Jets, then go ahead. -
I can see why they would speculate this and it makes a lot of sense IMO. The only issue that I have with all of this stuff is that if he doesn't look great in the third year, it's like he's automatically gone and you should move on with no hesitation. Yes Ginn hasn't been great but he could be an asset to this team in the future, despite never living up to his billing. Look at Jason Allen. The guy is a bust of all busts, he's got his bust carved in Canton for the Wall of Shame but he's been a quality special teamer for us.

To me the real issue is with the coaches not Ginn. They're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. I don't ever want to see Ginn run another down and out ever again. He should be stretching defenses and returning every kick and punt. I do have to give them credit for having him run the end around although I don't feel they run that play enough.

People can whine all they want about "Ginn bashing" the same way they whined about "Beck bashing" and "Cameron bashing" but I'd be willing to bet money Ginn will be traded or cut in the offseason. It won't matter who here likes him or dislikes him, Sparano clearly doesn't like him and his opinion is the one that counts.

1 PR in 33 isn't all that bad either (Josh Cribbs get one every 40 here as well, Hester 1 every 19).
Not sure where you get 200 kicks returned either since he only had 109 KRs in his career and 33 PRs. That's less than 150 returns combined.
The fact is the very best returners can get 2 KRs for a TD in a year. Rarely does anyone get more than that in a year.
Sure we saw Hester and Dante Hall get multiple returns in a season before (both punt and kick combined), but those were one of a kind seasons (well 2 of a kind in Hester's case), and there is a reason Dante Hall was in discussion for the MVP early on in the year he did what he did.
I mean if you expect what Devin hester did in 06 and 07, you're likely setting someone up for failure. That goes for even Hester himself.Bpk and Colorado Dolfan like this. -
"But" Ginn will have to show he can play Wr, kick returns for TD's are lightening strikes, you just can't count on them to happen, Ginn will have to show he can make big plays as a Wr or he may be gone.
but not for some "late round pick" that is absurd, truth be known we find enough good players as UDFA's to make a late round a giveaway. -
Oh wait, thats what "sources" were saying before the season started this year. Still waiting for that to happen.
Who knows what will happen this offseason, but I dont buy for a second that our FO has made trading Ginn this offseason a "priority" midway through the year. Thats not what front offices are doing this time of year.
Right now they are looking at the bottom end of our roster and other peoples practice squads trying to figure out if some moves there would help us. Halfway through the year no FO is making concrete plans about which guy they want to trade after the year is done. They let the year finish and then break down all the film and see where each player is at the end of the season.... And then they figure out who they are going to make a "priority" to trade.
IMO this is simply a case of Internet journalism where someone says "Ginn has struggled this year and my writer buddy who covers the AFC East thinks they are going to trade him so I might as well write it up as something I heard."
And then there is this from his bio
We have a lot of South Florida reporters who cover the fins full time and they have proven time and time again that they have little or no insight into what the Dolphins are doing when it comes to real inside info. They watch the PC's like everyone else and get to ask coaches questions but when it comes to knowing the real plans of what goes on behind closed doors they dont have a clue..... Yet this guy does? Dont buy it for a second.Anonymous likes this. -
I am not giving up on him yet...Anonymous likes this. -
From here on out if Ginn can give them good field position more often than not then I think teams will take notice, and our team might even think of keeping him. Let him do that and get one or two more for TD's and his trade value will rise but his value to this team will be even more. -
-
Well for a late round pick, I don't think it's worth it.
1) The guys a great return man....very dangerous and we saw that this past week.
2) I'd like to see what he's got in the slot as a #3 WR. If Bess's play this season is any indication of what's ahead, he won't be here long meaning we're gonna need a slot WR. That's what Tedd Ginn is. He's a slot receiver. I'll bet almost no NFL scout thought of Ginn as a #1 or #2 guy.
Heck, I think moving him to the slot could revive his career as a WR. Especially with the way Bess has been playing.
Edit: My point being: Just because he was drafted #9 doesn't mean we have to push him as our #1. Cameron reached....everyone knows it and knew it at the time. Put the guy where he plays best....in the slot.
Same thing with LJ Shelton. Just because he was drafted in the 1st round, people kept trying to play him at LT. He was no good at LT. Move him to guard and he becomes a decent player. -
The guy beats the jets single handed (almost) with a performance that will be remembered in Dolphin history FOREVER....so a podunt website waxes on (making it up) about a possible trade for basically nothing in the offseason...
then we have a parade of people talking about how much this guy sucks that we might or might not trade in the offseason.
I'll pretend I didn't see and read this thread . -
He IS the reason we beat the Jets, but....He was a big reason we lost to the Saints, and had he made a routine catch against the Colts, we'd have beaten them too. (The 2 best teams in the league ATM). We didn't forget those.
