Green doesnt think you should Crown em?

 

Lamar Miller may or may not have the big play ability of Reggie Bush. It remains to be seen. However, I don't think he's a drop off as an every down back. He's going to average 4.5-5.0 yards per carry if he's healthy. I also think his size allows him to play around the goal line, which Reggie didn't do. I also think Jonas Gray is upgrade over Daniel Thomas (I expect Gray to supplant Thomas sooner or later) in short yardage situations. I'm not really feeling Dennis Green here.

He might have a point with losing Jake Long. Although, it's not as if Jake Long plays 16 games a year. And his last two seasons with us was by no means spectacular. Is he better than JMart? Sure. But I'm not losing sleep, losing Jake Long at this point, given his final years in Miami.

Mike Wallace might not be Calvin Johnson, but anyone who watched Miami play last year realizes how huge he can be to this offense. Not only in terms of his own production, but what he allows the other receivers to do. And considering the lack of drop off between our 2012 RB's vs. 2013 RB's, I'd say Mike Wallace is more important than Bush. And probably more important than an unhealthy and declining Jake Long.

He really didn't provide any analysis on his opinion of Tannehill. Hard to pick that apart. Could be right, could be wrong. We'll see.

 

Dennis Green? The same DG that had a meltdown in 2004 and was last hired as the head coach of Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League ? And then lost that job and had to sue? Dennis Green could get hired anywhere in the NFL. And he's going to give advice about Ryan Tannihill based on a glorified scrimmage with the Cowboys that he played 2 snaps in? Really? :cry:

Not going to read the article. Based on the HOF performance, DG is correct. But, only an idiot would prognosticate based on the HOF game.

 

He's probably right. Most great QBs show it from the beginning...at least flashes of the ability to be great.
That doesn't mean he can't be a very good QB that can lead us to the playoffs, though.
Hell, Flacco isn't a great QB, but he's very good and he took his team to a SB win.

 

So his argument for not liking Mike Wallace over Reggie Bush is that Bush scored a lot of TDs? Huh??? WHAAAA??

Mike Wallace - 4 seasons - 32 TDs - 8 TDs per year
Reggie Bush - 7 seasons - 48 TDs - 6.9 TDs per year

TV talking heads can suck it.

 

Yeah I am not opening it either, kind of care less DG is a scatter brain. Generally, sure TH is not a great QB right now, he is in his second year. But time will tell...no one can say yeah or nah at this point.

 

He's not a great quarterback. Not yet. Not even close. Can he be? We will see.

 

Has anyone ever said he was great? I think most of us believe his arrow is certainly pointing up (at least hoping it is), but no one has claimed he's great.

 

DG is only saying what he see's, If we don't agree with it then that's that.

I will say that i think Jake was let go because he wasn't playing at the level his money warranted, and Bush was let go because they thought that Lamar was ready to take over and was cheaper. DG only saw the small picture and not the big one IMO. Quite common in a person who isn't a fan of the team

 

Yea, I agree RT isn't a great player. He could still turn in to one though.

I do not agree with DG about needing to sign Bush though, or that Wallace isn't a great player (assuming Bush is also a great player).

I'm sorry but whom?? IDK who this guy is or was, but he's going off 5 snaps....OOOK. Now i know why i never paid THIS much attention to the offseason before...The sh*t that I see is hilarious, but at the same time, makes you think "WTF!?, are you serious!?"

 

I don't think he's basing his opinion off just the HoF game, but I could be wrong.

 

Let's hope he isn't who Green thinks he is.

Yeah, he didn't say anything about whether he thinks Tanny has the ability, he simply said the team wouldn't improve because of the losses of Long and Bush.

Well, while it's premature to anoint Miller as "as good as or better than" Bush, it's also fair to say that Miller shares in ability to break the occasional great play like Bush did. His question is his reliability. That we'll all have to wait and see. If we were talking about any other position than RB, I'd agree that we have to worry, but the RB position is one that is forgiving in today's game. We might even be better than the last few years with Bush. Also keep in mind who and how Philbin/Sherman use RBs....they've made names of a few guys that you'd never heard of before until they got into this O...

As for Long, Green is thinking of the Long of the first 3 yrs, not his last 2 yrs where his body broke down and he was not nearly as good as he was. It's ashamed, because I wanted him to break out of the injury bug-a-boo, but if he does, it'll be elsewhere. Martin is adjusting back to the left side and how that plays out is going to be what we have to watch. Is he Long of 5 yrs ago....no, not even close...but is he Long of the last two years ??? There's some debate...

However, if Martin can be serviceable and Miller can be consistent enough to fit into a rotation with the other guys we have at RB, the additions of Keller, Wallace, some of the young guys showing up and we should have a much better team than the last few, even IF Tanny doesn't make a great leap forward...

 

I'll say that Jake never intended to re-sign with Miami...

 

I hate this headline-ism culture.

Nobody should even be contemplating whether Ryan Tannehill is a great quarterback because he hasn't even come close to proving that yet, but because Denny Green actually SAID it, even though it's the most obvious point he could possibly make, his denial of Ryan Tannehill's talent is the headline and draws the ire of ten thousand fans.

Though truly he said some other things in there that should draw their ire, chief of which is his belief that Mike Wallace is a nice player, but he's no Reggie Bush or Jake Long. That's not going to win him any popularity contests in Miami.

 

Its not that he was negative. It really isn't.

Its that he was negative based on the shallowest reasons and then it was turned into a story. Its basically an opinion given the weight of national news, based on just names without a stitch of investigation or forethought. Its based on less knowledge of the particulars than even a Peter King opinion.

There's been plenty of negative and/or cautionary views taken of the team and there's not been hatred spit back at them. The problem is when you have a clearly biased hatemonger like Evans or a guy like Green who very likely before he gave his opinion, had to be told who wasn't on the team anymore and then based his entire opinion on that or a guy like Omar who can barely tell the difference between fullback and a cornerback.

 

That's the thing. I don't mind analysis that reaches a negative conclusion. I had no issue with what the football outsiders guy said in the other thread. I didn't agree with several things or with his conclusion, but his opinion was based on actual observation and knowledge of the team. When I read stuff like DGs or most things from Evans, its obviously based on ignorance or bias. That's what draws my ire.

 

I remember similar articles and negative media perception regarding a young Eli Manning. Then in late 2007, his 4th season, that all changed.

Wait and see. This can go either way for Tanny in a few years.

 

I take what Green said with a grain of salt. It's an opinion. And, one from someone who obviously isn't very familiar with the Dolphins.

If you were to watch the clip, DG said...........are you trying to say we had 4 good QBs last year? I don't think we had 4, I think we had 3. RT is not a great QB.
That is not an EXACT quote, but its close. RT was not great last year and was out shined by the other 3. I don't think he said he will never be a great QB.

I read that article using the Denny Green voice. Believe it or not, It actually made more sense that way.

Based on where Tannehill is TODAY, DG is right IMHO. Where RT goes from here, what he becomes, DG has no more idea than I do. (And we all know how unqualified I am :lol: )

I think he meant Payton and Philbin didn't see anything special in Reggie Bush worth hanging onto once his contract was up.

It's a tough football decision getting rid of a Reggie Bush, you have to separate the good things, the residual impact a player like him brings to your team against how effective he is at his #1 job..I personally had made up my mind mid season last year, I saw too many negatives at his #1 job that didn't offset the residual things his character and work ethic brought to the table..

I mean think about it, he averaged over 4 yards a carry, and has the best work ethic on the team, why would anyone get rid of that?, unless of course, there were things in his style that compromised the scheme..at least that's why I thought we should go in another direction.

I like Reggie. And I agree with the traits you (DJ) listed as positives. And I like him as a face of the franchise. I just see Miller's ceiling as higher. IMO Reggie can be the best back on the field on any given day. But he has limited vision and a tendency to take negative plays. I think Miller can be a top 5 back in the league. He doesn't have Reggie's leadership ability and I don't know that he's as good as the face of the franchise, but I think he'll be a consistently better player. I don't see 1500 yards as out of the question, I expect about 1200 yards, assuming he's healthy, but he could reach his goal. I could see Miller being the leading rusher in the league. I think he has that level of ability. AP and Foster are better IMO, but the best back isn't always the rushing leader as there are other factors. I never believed Reggie had a shot to lead the league when he set that goal last year. Now, I don't actually want him to lead the league in rushing. I think that would most likely come from a really unbalanced attack, but I do want to see some monster games out of him.

 

Agree with CK and others that his comment on Reggie Bush should be what really raises eyebrows. I loved Reggie Bush as a Dolphin and still like him as a player. But any coach who thinks a running back of Reggie's production and skill set is the most crucial piece of a team's offense isn't paying attention to the changes in the game and the plug and play nature of the RB position. It's shocking to me that a guy who has been a head coach within the last 10 years could have such an ignorant viewpoint.
