That was a penalty on McCain??? I didn't watch the game, took the day to ride bikes with my 7 yr old instead. From what I read in the gameday thread and that replay, looks like another Dolphins game.

 

I agree. This wasn't a team that quit. They fought all game. They've quit in the games they were blown out, I don't think there's any doubt about that. However, I didn't see a team that quit yesterday either, they fought hard, they just got beat by a better team, and they did plenty to beat themselves. You can't beat a team like NE while turning over the ball Moore... Drake.

As for the play on McCain. I'm not sure that warranted an ejection. 15 yards, probably. It wasn't a punch, but looked enough like one to an official that they'd have to make that call. Doesn't matter if McCain was defending himself for prior actions, he can't put himself in that position and hurt the team. It's that simple.

 

Should have been offsetting penalties. Thrown out ? No way in hell. But, such is life in Patriot land. If it was the other way around do you really think a Patriot player would've been tossed ? No need to even answer that.

 

Just call it what it actually was, Mccain picked off brady, Brady got mad and ran crying home to momma and the ref threw him out because Belicheat and Miss Brady didn't like that he had the audacity to pick off Brady!!!!!

 

Smart play by Amendola. I have no doubt they are taught to do that. Cheap shots and actions until you get a reaction and the second guy is 95 out of a 100 times going to draw the flag and maybe ejection. Gase needs to teach the players to play smart, go to the nearest ref and ask them to keep an eye out for the cheap stuff. Or let Gase work the refs, but you have to have the self control to walk away and not hurt the team with a flag or getting yourself ejected.

The Pats get breaks other teams simply don't, but Brady is a darling of the NFL and it will stay that way until he retires.

I'm generally not on the "blame the refs!" bandwagons, but the amount of calls the Pats get is amazing. I do wonder how much of that comes with perception though. They are perceived as being a tough bunch of blue collar players with great discipline. When it's kind of a toss up, how much does that perception influence the refs call? You can see it with teams like Pitt as well. They are "well run" so they deserve more benefit of the doubt, especially when at home.

The ref just should have announced, " The Patriots dont normally turn the ball over like that so by rule we will award them the football, after all they ARE the Patriots".

 

or the announcer with his comment "they didn't give him space to catch the ball" when there was no fair catch called he said like 3 times like a dumb moron and then the explanation was unreal to me, the player was down by contact, ok which player? your not going to check for possession your extremely good eye sight with 1 referee made you ideal to make that, then ok play on.

that matter and the things/calls that I witness during a Patriots game makes me honestly believe they have their own set of rules.

There's absolutely NO way the ref could see who had the ball there because they both immediately "battled" for the ball. I totally agree on this one that the refs unfairly gave NE the benefit of the doubt.

 

To be semi-fair, I think the refs just need a player clearly in possession and down - at that point the play is dead and stealing it back are moot. The reason it can be stolen in a pile is because it is hard to determine possession. At least, that is what it should be imo. That said, the reasoning given is hilariously absurd.

 

I agree if possession is clear and the recovering player is down, play is over. But, I watched it several times and still couldnt see where a ref had clear evidence of that happening.

 

ray Charles could see who had possession as much as the ref could!!!!

 

What really pisses me off is the ref , running over to the pile from the opposite end of the field, already made his mind up and pointed in the Patriots favor while the players were on the ground trying to recover the loose ball.

 

You must have better eyes than me because I don't see any grabbing and/or pulling down by the facemask. And that was definitely a punch. And what made it slimey is he takes a cheap shot punch then immediately puts his hand up like he didn't do anything wrong. Want to know who's guilty? Just look for the guys with their hands up.

 

I don't see it that way really. You're making it seem like Amendola pulled him down in an act of aggression. I see two guys, locked up, and Amendola only ends up pulling McCain down because he falls over a Dolphins player who's on the ground. Looks like that downed player is what really causes Amendola to go down, not that he's pulling him down. It looks like Amendola's got one hand on McCains shoulder pads, the other is unclear. As Amendola falls over the downed phins player, he's still got ahold of McCain so natrually they go down together. As the two disappear behind some bodies, and Amendola is now on his back, it looks pretty clear to me Amendola has his hand on McCains throat/neck, which is likely what really prompts the forearm from McCain. I thought Bobby said post game that it was the play before that Amendola had his hands on his facemask several times? Either way though, I think Amendola only brings McCain down because the two are locked up and Amendola gets "tripped up" by a guy on the ground.

I dont know, I mean it should have been 15 yards both ways at a minimum. McCain likely gets tossed though regardless for the "punch", that's just the way it is. Either way, got to put your pride aside and you can't retaliate. The refs are almost always going to nail the guy who retaliates, especially when the instigator plays for NE.

After they were on the ground Amendola still wouldn't turn him loose until McCain threw his forearm and elbow into Amendola's to make him release. Call was BS.

The Dolphin who SHOULD have been flagged on that play and wasn't though was Branch, who did throw a punch and also could have been flagged for taunting. In fact, Branch thought the flag was on him to start with.

 

I hear ya. I think though, if McCain doesn't throw that forearm into his face like that, there's likely no flags for that altercation.

Now the fact the Pats get away with more than any other team in the league, I'm with you there, and quite frankly it's getting close to being enough to make me watch Nascar, or go walk the dog, or maybe take up knitting. :lol:

 

I personally think the league office should give a $10 000 bonus for every player who throws a punch at a cheatriots player. 25G's for a brady or belichick shot and a flat rate of 50 grand for any nut punt directed at anybody affiliated with that franchise on or off the field. So you're at the casino in the off season and you're running low on cash? Look across the room and you see Jim McNally spending some of his "hush" money at the craps table. Nut punt, send the video to the league office and they wire you the money so you're back in business before you're complimentary drink is warm.

 

it was a forearm to the head area, that's an ejection. amendola going un punished is the issue.
