don't look to Ross for an excuse. the problems are many & endemic to a system generated over many decades by a hostile media & an impatient, irrational & negative fan-base. it is what it is & Ross is a very good owner. we certainly could do worse.

what we need is not another scape-goat but positive support for a fledgling regime in need of time & consistency

 

I hope that people read this article,because I'm thinking that it cuts right to the heart of the matter and why the GM search has been anywhere from weak to a joke. Ross is building a house of rats and a ship of fools.

 

Ross isn't the excuse, he's the problem. Same, ultimately, with Huizenga, although I had more sympathy then for Wayne than I do for Ross now.

Dude, here's the central issue- would the team be best served by cleaning house or not? Everyone has their opinion and that's fine, but what bothers me is that criticism of Aponte is chalked up as sexist or mysogynistic and there's always as an excuse to be made as to why qualified candidates are running away from the GM position. And it's all bs.

Having been a fan and having lived down here for a long time, I can tell you this- we had it good for an extended period. And those years were the Shula years- we had a cheap owner who wasn't well liked or properly funded in Joe Robbie, but we had the strong hand of Don Shula to guide the ship. My guess is that if you put Don Shula into the crapfest of Ireland's authority and Aponte's calculated rise to power, he'd go ballistic. Granted the next Don Shula is nowhere in sight, as per that strong leader to guide the team, but my opinion is that Ross is screwing the pooch here with his triumvirate approach to power sharing. The three headed approach where all report to Ross is imo a disaster in the making. As much as I dislike Ireland, the idea of him being asked to report to Aponte is nauseating. My wish is simple- get a quality GM, have him (or her, of course) run the ship, everyone answers to the GM and the GM reports to Ross. And make sure that the new GM is a great player evaluator. End of story.

Control. I don't want the complication of three people running to the owner with problems and opinions as opposed to the capologist and head coach reporting directly to the GM. I just don't like that power structure, not my preference. I'm not discounting that Ireland was a problem, Iv'e clearly stated that I'm glad he's gone, but there was just too much drama and dysfunction last year for my taste.

 

I've stated in other threads, lets say that Aponte doesn't control your personnel decisions, lets say she's Kahn in Pitt, because from my knowledge that's what she is.

So there really isn't anything left in terms of structure, if hired you run the show just like most of the other jobs.

Any other reasons?.

 

I'd prefer to select the head coach, but if I was one of the candidates and I was offered the job where I had control of the organization, I reported to Ross and everyone else reported to me, I'd take it. My personal opinion is that candidates having dropped out for various reasons is telling a different story. We'll see what happens.

 

Omar Khan reports directly to the owner? I thought he was hired by Colbert. Just going off title alone, Aponte appears to have more power.

To answer my own question, Khan does report directly to ownership apparently. There was an article on this a few days back:

From what I could tell, it looks like only a couple of teams have multiple people reporting directly to ownership. Almost every team has a clear hierarchy.

I respect your fire and love your optimism bro, but we've been spurned by someone that was offered the position, another that was the leader for the position, another for another GM position, and multiple others not even wanting to interview.

How can it not be clearer that it isn't an attractive job? It has to be something about the structure or opportunity. You don't decline a promotion if it's such a great opportunity.

Well...I said that I felt that he couldn't be dumb enough to let the caplogist have power over the GM, I also have stated that it could be the very reason why they are declining the job .it seems as though I could be wrong for thinking Ross couldn't be that dumb, to me the only reason these guys are turning us down is that the Hard knocks scene was real and represented a very very flawed power structure.

 

What a smooth transition from Ireland is the problem to Ross is the problem I am witnessing.

 

Blaming the media is just stupid. The media in New York, Boston, and many other NFL cities are far worse than the South Florida media. Yet the teams in these other cities don't appear to have any problem hiring quality individuals for their organization.

As far as fans being negative. Please tell me where there are positive fans for a team which has not won a playoff game in since 2000 and has been in the playoffs only once in the past 12 years. This team also has not had a winning season for five straight years. Perhaps you don't realize that Dolphin fans and the locale media have been a lot more patient with this owner and this team than fans of other teams would have been under the same set of circumstances.

In fact fans and media in other NFL cities would probably have been far more negative in regards to ownership and the football team if this Dolphin organization was a part of their community. Ross has shown he is an inept owner, who has no idea how to hire the right individuals to turn this organization around.

I am sure the fans of the Patriots, Jets, Bills, and other teams in the AFC are happy Ross is the owner of this team. Unfortunately the true fans of the Dolphins and the locale media realize that he is nothing but a joke as the owner of an NFL franchise.

This franchise doesn't need more time and consistency as you state. What it needs is a new owner who actually knows what he is doing as an NFL owner. As long as Ross is the owner of this team, the Dolphins have zero chance of being a successful NFL franchise.

 

The fact Ross kept an inept GM around for the past five years he has been the majority owner of the Dolphins, shows clearly that Ross is the major problem with the Dolphins. A competent owner would have fired Ireland at the same time he fired Sparano.

 

So basically what you're saying is that you've said that Aponte might be the problem and you've said that Aponte might not be the problem. I'm gathering from your posts in this and other threads that you've figured out which scenario is true.

 

DJ...if all she was was a Khann from Pitt we wouldnt be loosing GM candidates left and right. I dont care what Ross says in public...just look at whats happening. Your right...there is no reason why it shouldnt be a desirable job. But obviously ...something is up..cuz for what ever reason..youd think the team had the plague. That tells me their is alot more not being said...and much more hidden in the fine print.
