I fully expect ST to be excellent this season, the defense is on the upswing and the offense added Bush and Rosario, have to see how that plays out.

 

Clearly, now Nick Buoniconti, Manny Fernandez, Jim Kiick, Larry Little and Dick Anderson are evil men who join the ranks of scum like Tom Jackson and everyone else in the media who has ever criticized the team.

Criticism couldn't come at a worse time from the alum. Maybe its purpose is to motivate them. Season is just beginning, give it a break already.

 

Man this pisses me off, i must say. He just completely ignores our strength (defense) and goes at our weakness (offense).

How does a former MLB completely disregard the defensive side of the ball? Our defense has the possibility to be EXCELLENT this year. Young talented CBs, great pass rusher, and one of the best MLBs in the league playing inside. Our defense can win entire football games. If they catch some of their INTs this year, they could get us to the playoffs.

The bucs won super bowl with defense. The ravens won a superbowl with defense. If our group can mature and really take over games, why can't we?

 

If the dolphins sign albert haynesworth and Ochocinco, we're desperate and crazy.

The patriots sign them though and their brilliant.

 

It's also "clear" that those who disagree and have hope for the season, for a variety of different reasons, are really saying that everyone else is evil. Those that have a positive outlook can only get it by trashing those that don't. ****ing guys just don't live in reality and are a bunch of ******s.

All those guys from the undefeated team have nothing good to say about anyone until they lose a game.

 

That 'strength' could not take the ball away last season. The mistake a lot of people make is assuming that only the offense needs to improve. We need the defense to step up and truly become a top five defense.

 

Opinions & *******s. People have both and with the internet they have an audience for the former and sometimes show that the later is more how they act than a part of their body.

 

Its a good thing opinions dont win and lose games.Thankfully this team and regime and team can play the game to prove or disprove the critics and pundits.

There have been many questionable moves by this regime buts its their neck on the line.We fans can only watch ,question, wonder and expect better times .

We will still be fans after the season is over whether this regime is here or not.

Of course all those on here who never played in the NFL are better at seeing the truth. Buoniconti is only stating what he sees when he looks at the job Ireland has done in providing talent for the Dolphins. The fact that Bouniconti believes the same thing the majority of the experts also believe, certainly holds more validity with me than those Dolphin fans who look at this team with rose colors glasses.

 

The major difference between the signing of these two players comes down to the coaches on the Dolphins and the Patriots. It is a brilliant move by the Patriots because Belichick has proven over the years that he can get the best out of his players. Sparano on the other hand has not yet proved he can do anything but get his teams to play at a mediocre level. I think Haynesworth and Ochocinco were great pick ups for the Patriots because of Belichick. They would not have been great pick ups for most NFL teams, especially the Dolphins.

 

I respect all former Phins players but, listen much closer if they have been around the team and/or know more about the team, like a Kimbo, Marino, or Sims.

 

He's not ignoring or disregarding anything. He's stating the obvious, that a defense cannot carry a team. The objective of football is to score points. By definition, defense cannot do that. They can keep the point totals lower than they otherwise would be, but if a D is getting no help from an O, they aren't going to win. Doesn't matter how good the defense is. Buoniconti is exactly correct, the offense needs to take over.

And you overrate our defense. It's a good defense, but it's not a fantastic defense. It can be pretty good if every single player who needs to step up does so, but that's counting on quite a lot of improvement as well as zero regression. It's a lot to ask for.

Not really. Both the 2000 Ravens and 2002 Bucs (in addition to being legendarily good defenses that you don't just slap together with the ease you imply) had timely quarterback play. Johnson and Dilfer stepped it up in the playoffs and did enough to count. If they don't step up, those teams don't win championships, legendary D or not.

 

And this is going to be really important, IMO. If you open up the offense more there's a chance for some big plays, but with Henne being anything but a sure thing and a guy like Thomas having yet to show the fumbling issues he had in college are a thing of the past, this offense could also have its share of turnovers. To combat that, this defense may need to take the ball away much more than it has it past, or the quality of the unit will only take them so far.

 

Nick is right I trust Nick and other alumns over a fanbase that makes excues for not making any noise . I hope I am wrong but this doesnt have the feel of a sucessful team . Bradford best qb in league , Henne is still a unknown at qb my expectations is for 10 wins but just because we hve been quite doesn't mean we are going to suprise people.the positives are we looked better in pre season , yet can I use that as a mesurement of how good or how bad ? I am trying to think positive but there is a partof me that thinks we are a on the fence team .bottom line if 5 out of 15 people say we haven't improved then I will say we may suprise the critics, yet when 13 out of 15 say we will be bad then we all must take a honest look at the team.I remember saying we would go 11-5 in Sparano's second year and we went 7-9 and then we went 7-9 again so I am having trouble beleiving where we are as a team.

Since I have the Sunday Ticket on Direct TV. I have been able to watch all the games played so far this afternoon. One of the teams I have paid close attention to is the Buffalo Bills, since so many on this forum seem to think that the Bills are inferior to the Dolphins. Right now the Bills are beating the Chiefs, (a 2010 playoff team), by a score of 41-7 in Kansas City. Fitzpatrick has thrown four TD passes in the game so far, he is so much better as an NFL QB than Henne, it isn't even close.

I have been saying all along that the Dolphins were going to have a difficult time finishing ahead of the Bills in the AFC East this season. While I admit that the Dolphins have not yet even played a game in the regular season. I have always felt that the Patriots and Jets would finish ahead of the Dolphins and based on the improvement shown by the Bills today, I would not be the least bit surprised if the Dolphins end up in last place in the AFC East this season.

 

I didn't overrate our defense, no where did i say they were legendary. I said they have a chance to be excellent, and they absolutely do. And yes you can win a game with just defense. A defense can indeed carry a team if its good enough. Im not really understanding how that seems like crazy logic? IF this defense can start taking the ball away, that will start winning games. An interception that gives Henne and the offense the ball on the opponents side of the field would go a long way towards helping them score more points. Turnovers give your offense momentum. They give them short fields, and sometimes even score the points themselves.

The only thing this D couldn't get done last season was take aways. If we start doing that, the entire season would have been different last year. Will they start doing that? I hope so. Obviously they might not but I don't really understand the point in assuming(or worse, hoping) they won't. We're fans right? Isn't Nick B. a fan too? I just don't get why he'd say this. Its just dickish.

And YES, the bucs and ravens DID win their super bowls with defense. (m pretty sure there was a three or four week period during the season that the Bucs defense actually outscored the opposing offenses. Dilfer and Johnson were OKAY, but you can put almost any vet QB who was smart enough not to lose the game and they would have won with those defenses. Dilfer and Johnson deserve zero credit for those teams.

 

Today should have shut up (for at least a week) those on here who have berated me about why I thought that we'd finish behind the Bills, and in last place. I bit my tongue (so to speak) and feel a level of justice based on today's performance by the Bills. If the Jets win tonight, and we lose tomorrow, we are already in last and probably won't climb out of it all season.

 

When you bring out 2000 Ravens and 2002 Bucs, yes, that's exactly what you're saying.

Because it doesn't happen nearly as often or as easily as you seem to believe. The closest the NFL has seen to the 2000 Ravens and 2002 Bucs since is the 2009 Steelers, and they weren't as dominant as said defenses, nor did they carry their teams to championship titles. Those defenses were absolutely the better halves of their respective teams, but that's not the same thing as being solely responsible for hoisting the Lombardi.

Now I know you're suffering from rosy memory. The defense couldn't generate a consistent pass rush without Cam Wake, and was generally abused in coverage. It's not coincidental that we added Jason Taylor and Kevin Burnett.

Due to the way the NFL works, if Johnson and Dilfer do not play better in the playoffs, those teams don't win the Super Bowl. Period. That's not me giving credit to Johnson and Dilfer for those wins, that's me saying even those two defenses would not have won the Super Bowl without help. You are the only one claiming that X carried Y to a title in general, or that the Dolphins can do it in specific.

If it happens, I'll be the first one to tell you that you were right and that you are a master of football analysis, but somehow I don't think I'll be writing that congratulatory note this year.

 

It wasn't a very dominating game by the bills, just a blowful one for the chiefs. 3 turnovers, and the bills capitalized on all of them. Even if you look at the stats, the bills did good but nothing indicative that they ruled that game with an iron fist. Fitzpatrick had 200 yds and jackson ran for 100. Thats a solid outing for your offense, but clearly they had a lot of help from the chiefs to get to 41 pts.

That game said a lot more about where the Chiefs are not than it did about where the Bills are. The chiefs, IMO, are the 2nd easiest pick to see fall out of the playoffs this year. (colts being first, obviously)

not an analyst, just a fan hoping my team exceeds all expectations and wins as many games as possible. I see a lot of talent on this defense and hope things click in a big way.

 

I have to wonder exactly what you consider a dominating performance. The Bills out gained the Chiefs 364 yards to 213 yards. The Bills had 23 first downs to the Chiefs 13 and the Bills created 3 turnovers to the Chiefs one take away. In time of possession, the Bills held a 37.02 to 22.58 advantage over the Chiefs. The final score was 41-7 on the Chiefs home field. For most people this would be complete dominance by one team over another. I have no doubt if the Dolphins should have these same stats against the Patriots tomorrow night or against any team they play this season, everyone on here will be talking about how the Dolphins dominated their opponent.

I am no fans of the Bills, but you have to give them credit where credit is due. The fact is that they went into Kansas City and kicked the cra# out of the Chiefs.

 

It has a lot more to do with my opinion, and i admit its my opinion, that the chiefs are just not very good. I think Cassel is the most overpaid QB in the league. Does nothing impressive to me. Just puts it up and hopes the wr makes the play every time. Their running game is usually better than it was today so I give the bills credit there for strengthening their run D. Outside of that, the bills offense is sporadic and they certainly can score points. THe problem for the bills is there the kind of offense that can score 41 one week and turn it over 5 times next week. We'll see.

we were all pretty psyched about our victory against the vikings early last year too. Then when the season went on and it was clear they just sucked, that victory wasn't as impressive anymore. I think the same thing is going to happen with the chiefs.

 

I probably have a higher opinion than you of the Chiefs, but I did expect them to crash a bit this year (much like we did in 2009), and I too don't find myself liking much of anything in regards to Cassel.

40 is still 40 though, so kudos Bills.
