In the past week the Dolphins had an opportunity to sign either Sam Howell or Justin Fields for relatively little compensation. Either one of these quarterbacks could likely guide the Dolphins to as many or more 20224 season wins as Tua will do, but for much less money.
These kind of roster mistakes are why the Dolphins do not have more on the field success.

Sam Howell or Justin Fields could have been a good sense bridge QB for the 2024 and maybe 2025 seasons, and the Dolphins might have collected several draft picks had they traded Tua during recent weeks.Piston Honda, dolphin25, Sceeto and 2 others like this. -

I didn't watch much/any of Howell last season, but I did catch a fair few games that Fields played.
Fields is a poor man's version of Lanar Jackson. Not as good as a runner, worse arm and no ability to read a defense.
Now if we wanted to sign him to be our back up RB, I could be in board with that . There is no universe where he is even close to a starting NFL QB.The_Dark_Knight and Springveldt like this. -
I'm not convinced that Howell is any better than Skylar Thompson. Fields maybe. He's not a very good passer but he could win some games with his legs.

In saying that, I wouldn't have minded the Dolphins going after Howell as a backup for Tua.
Fields would be a complete and utter disaster in this offence and most NFL offences that ask the QB to pass from the pocket.MrClean likes this. -
Fields wanted to play with the Steelers.

Updated list of quarterbacks Aquapride wants to replace Tua with:
Davis Mills
Jameis Winston
Tyrod Taylor
Kenny Pickett
Cooper Rush
Zach Wilson
Sam Howell
Justin Fields
This is after trading Tua for multiple premium draft picks.danmarino likes this. -
I don’t mind criticism of players, if it objective and fact based. Are there aspects of Tua’s game that warrants criticism? Only a blind pundit would say no. Every player in the league, regardless of position has aspects of their game that warrants criticism, Tua being no different. With that being said…
If anyone truly believes Sam Howell or Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor or any of these aforementioned quarterbacks would as equal to the performance of Tua over the last two years, I just don’t know what can be said.
If, and that’s an IF in ginormous capital letters, Tua was Daniel Jones, an extremely mediocre quarterback with an astronomical contract I could see the argument, but the difference between those 2 are night and day.
There are quite a few losses we had last season that we all know are attributed to a dumb play called by McDaniel and not because of Tua, right? Does a 4th and 2 in the red zone with a bubble screen thrown to Hill for a stop and fumble returned for a touchdown ring a bell?
Point being, it ain’t all Tua.Springveldt and OwesOwn614 like this. -
OP is looking far and wide for something to complain about. This is just sad at this point.

Go 4-13, waste a year of everyone's time, and hope you draft the next generational quarterback, who is immediately NFL ready, and win 13-14 games right out of the gate? Reality check. That doesn't happen as quite as easy as it does in your Madden video game.
Or, do you actually think this offense is just plug and play at the quarterback position, and let's just say Cooper Rush is going to throw for close to 5,000 yards and win 12 games and take them to an AFC Championship game?danmarino likes this. -

- 3. Ravens QB Lamar Jackson: $52 million
- 4. Eagles QB Jalen Hurts: $51 million

You have a point about bad play calling for sure and one cannot argue that. -
The next year, Kenny Pickett and Desmond Ridder were the first two QBs off the board and both showed so little as starters, their teams traded them. Last season, Carolina sold the farm to trade up for Bryce Young, who has more questions than answers. C.J. Stroud - who was the question mark - is a top-10 QB after one season.
Let's not forget that it was 2022's Mr. Irrelevent who took his team to the Super Bowl last season and nearly won league MVP last season. Drafting The Guy is a crap shoot in the best of years (see the aforementioned 2021 draft).
Anybody who posits that replacing a QB is as easy as signing another or drafting one is either naive or ignorant to the reality of how things work. To draft a QB who is likely to play well, we'd have to be a bottom 3 team. We did that and fans like OP are unhappy with the one we got. I've got more than a sneaking suspicion they would be whining just as loud about the next one, too.Springveldt, Pauly and danmarino like this. -

Exactly. But I'm unsure if OP is a troll or just honestly obtuse with this thread.
