Well, I was wishing that we would have picked up a WR in the draft to round out a solid 5, and I'm wishing more so now. After the injury to Gibson, more will obviously be required of Wallace, Hartline and Matthews. As to Wallace- good Lord. The lack of production is one thing, but what I never expected, especially coming from Pittsburgh, was Wallace looking downright timid on the field. I noticed that accutely at first in the Saints game- he got shut down and pushed around. I thought that maybe that could be due to, in part, his having to go up against his best friend, the Saints DB covering him- I forget his name. Anyway, that was bad- and alarming. Then again, I gave it somewhat of a pass, hoping that it was a one-off because of that rare dynamic going on in that game with his best friend.
But- in the games since then I've played closer attention, and Wallace is getting punked out there, out physicaled and pushed around. There's not even the Hakeem Nicks "I wanna get paid next year, screw this year just don't hurt me" excuse- Wallace got paid and paid plenty. This soft play, this mind set, this lack of production, better change and change quick or we have a major problem on our hands.
Draft picks in the game:
2nd rd Jamar Taylor- was he there yesterday?
3rd rd Will Davis- was he there yesterday?
3rd rd Dallas Thomas- was he there yesterday?
4th rd Jelani Jenkins- was he there yesterday?
4th rd Dion Sims- 1 catch 4 yards, but at least he showed up. On a dollar per yards basis, as least he was a steal compared to Mike Wallace.
DE Devin Taylor, a decent OT, a decent OG and one of the many WRs available in the 2013 draft are looking pretty good right now.
Btw Rob Ninkovich had quite a game yesterday- he's playing well, of course Welker is playing well, Vontae and Sean Smith are playing well, Mike Wallace and the rookies other than Dion Jordan are sucking wind. Note: Da'Rick Rogers is on the Colts main roster, we'll see if he picks up some of the slack after the Reggie Wayne injury. Who do we have to add to the roster to replace Gibson who's nearly as good as Rogers?
Buckle up Jeff Ireland, a big storm is coming and this might prove to be your last cruise on the S.S. Miami Dolphins. If this trajectory continues, I don't see it as a stretch for Stephen Ross to clean house and replace both Ireland and Philbin, probably Mike Sherman, too.

What about signing Devon Wylie from the Steelers practice squad? Giving credit where credit is due, I never even heard of this guy from Fresno St. until CK mentioned him before the draft last year. I watched and what I watched I liked- he's a little dude like Welker, quick and much faster. Put him in the slot and Matthew can play both slot and out wide.
Wylie can return kicks as well and he is significantly faster than Davone Bess- I've had enough of the Slowskys in the slot. I'm not sure why KC released him, but the Steelers are no fools and they picked him up. Bottom line- we have a need a slot receiver now and Wylie would be a good match, even though he's smaller than what the coaches want- who cares, the kid can play. -
As to the quality of coaches and GMs available- Ross can find a new GM, if not an established name GM then he can always poach and up and comer from a successful FO staff. The coaches- I have a hard time believing that there isn't a better one out there than Philbin- I don;t particularly dislike him, but there's no charisma to him no dynamic aspect to his personality- it boils down to whether or not he's a leader of men and he can inspire a team. He just doesn't have it imo- a colder and even more boring and passive version of Cam Cameron. I look at Philbin and I see an Offensive Coordinator, not a head coach. My guess, based upon my own observations of him in the news down here and on Hard Knocks, is that his cold fish personality isn;t exactly winning over the players- do you see them reaching new heights to fight for him, are they inspired by him?
We can find a better coach and a better GM. As to the coach, Jon Gruden is a dilemma for me- good coach, won a Super Bowl, more "cult of personality" to him, but I don;t love him as a coach for some reason. I'd have to think about that one. But there are coaches out there, and in hindsite Jim Harbaugh would have been a nice fit. Screw Sparano's feelings, we should have gone all out for him. -
With Gibson down I think more is/should be asked of the RBs in the receiving game. Their presence has been almost non-existent. We need to get them involved in check-downs and screens more to help Tanny with blitz recognition/reaction as he seems to struggle with it overall.
And Wallace is due, waaaay overdue, to win us a game. Let's hope he gives us some quick-strike scores against Cincy as I really think a big game from him is our only shot at beating them.
That said, we really missed Gibson yesterday when the going got tough. He's just been so good for us in key moments, very hard to replace his consistency and tough mentality. Such a shame for him. -
Mike Wallace was terrible yesterday. There were multiple plays where he didn't come back to the ball or fight for the ball. On the interception he never came back to it. Just kept running as if there weren't defenders who might jump the pass. And the drops are killing me.
PS. He only has 41 more receiving yards than Ted Ginn and one fewer touchdown. How sad is that?jim1 likes this. -
Playing devil's advocate, with the OL sucking wind there's less time available for Tannehill and Wallace to get the longer routes working efficiently. That certainly would help, but nonetheless I'm tired of seeing Wallace getting pushed around on the field. -

Looks like there was a reason that Wallace was used on such a limited route tree in Pittsburgh. Despite all our hopes in preseason when he was looking more well-rounded, my guess is that Pittsburgh saw what we've been seeing: Wallace doesn't fight for the ball. You look at the types of WRs in Green Bay, that's what we need. bigger WRs that help their QB out of tough situations.
having said that, it doesn't mean we can't use Wallace effectively. but as long as our Oline fails to protect against any form of blitzing, Wallace will continue to see coverage w/safety help over the top, pretty much neutralizing him. -
-
Mike Wallace is always blanketed. The guy can't separate worth a damn even with his speed. And he never comes back for the ball or fight for it, he always does some sort of fadeaway.
-
At least we have a physical and talented Rishard Matthews to replace Gibson- I like Matthews, but the downside is that at this point he's no Gibson, he has a ways to go yet. -
Mike Wallace for Ginn and a 3rd round pick, who hangs up first?

we seem to be witnessing our players that move on get better while players that come to Miami seem to get worse. that isn't our fault that is on coaching and the gm.
there is no law that says we have to have the right coach after having to replace a coach . sometimes a team has to move on if things don't work out and to accept the fact that we have been through 5 or 6 coaches doesn't mean we have to keep a coach who just isn't getting it done. -

But yes, CBS was too busy switching to commercial every few minutes. Was annoying as Hell. And they rarely showed complete replays. -
-
Injury? Commercial. Replay review? Commercial.
My favourite is their World famous, Point after a touchdown, commercial, kick off, commercial series they do after almost every touchdown.
Oh, and they have inferior sound and picture.
And commentators.
When I watch games on FOX I get jealous of fans of NFC teams. I swear, they have 25% less commercials. Someone must have done a statistical analysis of that somewhere. -
The Commercials are by contract.
The contracts state how many and at what times to run them. Sometimes they go long on a broadcast and they "owe" spots. Then they "pay them off".
Our game seemed to be a victim of that. Either that, or you give back money. CBS evidently did not want to return any money.
All this shows is that FOX is much better at broadcasting games, and their producers are just better. Also helps if you have a good director.DPlus47 likes this. -

Wallace is a p ussy plain and simple. He will not fight for balls or go all out to make a play. He sees a pass isnt right where he wants it and gives up. I think his effort is terrible and I can see exactly why Pittsburgh never even considered giving him big money. He will be off of this team in 2 years and laughing all the way to the bank. The sad reality is the exact player Tannehill needs right now is Marshall.....ironic.

I don't know if it factors in passes were the WR is wide open but the ball is under thrown and still complete. The ball is still complete which is great but a well thrown ball may result in a TD.
