I was never in the get rid of Mueller camp as my concern now is who will run the draft if BP cannot get his guy before then.

 

I don't think we can say for sure yet. Some of the guys he brought in this year could contribute in the future, but others may simply look good right now because of the lack of talent on the team. I won't miss him.

 

I liked Mueller and think he did a good job with the draft and made the most out of the extra picks we had. I believe we will be alright with Parcells though, even if Ireland can't come in till after the draft. I kind of have a hunch that Wolf will assist Parcells if need be in an advisery roll during the draft. Parcells was right about this team not having a structure in place that was pretty obvious in the preseason and the results during the regular season speak for themselves, JMO though.
As far as worrying about the draft I am sure Parcells is plenty capable in handling this draft with all of the experience he has from past drafts.

 

What do you mean they didn't have a structure? I'm sure Muller had some structure that got him the players from the last draft, and a plan on how they were going to rebuild this team. This first draft and FA class, wasn't the total team they invisioned..I'm sure it was the first steps to the team they wanted to build...just didn't get the chance..

 

Thats the problem with no structure. We needed to rebuild before the season started and Cam/Ram didn't understand that or wouldn't accept it. You don't give up draft picks for old QB's, you don't sign high priced free agents, and you always choose the best player available in the draft.

 

The Ted Ginn pick sealed his fate. Teddy would have had to be the second coming of Hester and he wasn't. He was decent, but look at all the pro bowl talent we missed on, willis, okoye, etc..

 

The players you just listed would not have been Pro Bowl talent on the Fins. They would have been good players on a BAD team but never produced enough to make it to Hawaii.

 

I don't get it, the kid played good, had 3 punt returns for TD's 2 got called back, he really never had a chance to get down field on bombs, our OL problem, he caught most passes to him...our ST's were very good or set him up good..so I think next year you guys see him start to emerge with a year under his belt. He has excellent hands. We all know he has speed, but I think he will be special for a long time.

 

It is not just the draft. Mueller did a good job in the draft and left us in good cap position, but the other players on our roster did not cut it and that is his fault. The draft is just one aspect to Mueller's job, he also had personnel decisions to make and this is where I think he failed. Mueller and alot of us thought our D line was in great shape and got rid of some guys that, in hindsight had a major impact on the success of our line last year. This is the type of thing I think contributed to the firing of Mueller. To say we just didn't have a good team wouldn't be accurate, we had a really bad team and its Randy's job to assemble our team. Its easy to say he had a great draft but what about the rest of our team and players? I like alot of things he did but we won 1 game and we were lucky to win that, its just unacceptable.

This is my contention....how good are these guys really ? Ginn didn't make anyone call for RoY awards. Satale started because frankly he was the best center on the team. Doesn't mean he is even NFL average.

Just because we kept 10 players from his 1st draft means nothing. You can't judge a draft until 3 years after the draft. We actually won't know for 2 more seasons how good the 2007 draft actually was.

Any one who still thinks Ginn was a bad pick is brain damaged. The boy has the goods, the team doesn't.

 

Again, I will restate, just because someone started on this team, as a rookie, it means nothing. They were 1-15. If Parcells keeps him, then he is worthy, but if he's gone by the end of next year, that will tell us a lot.

I think Muller did a good job with the draft but the GM position is more than just that.....I'm sure Bill will bring the right guy in for the job.

we could have had patrick willis instead of Ginn, tony ugoh instead of beck, and we could have moved up from the 4th to get Edwards before buffalo. That would have landed us a starting LB, OT, and C. And still had Booker and Edwards as potential starting material for the future. But instead we added a rookie WR and traded away our top 2 WRs and released our best TE. We are more needy at WR now than we were before we drafted Ginn. Mueller deserved to get fired.

 

So far...i see only Satele as a lockdown.

 

I'm not one that thought Mueller was at all part of the problem.
I mean the guy just got control of personnel this year.
He has what has the potential to be a very solid draft and has a solid track record as GM.
Personally I think the Mueller firing had much to do with there not being room for 2 large egos to coexist..... I.E. Parcells ego/need to be the guy in charge and Randy's ego.

Exactly, and that is the problem, Cleo couldn't get him the ball, Green couldn't get him the ball, Beck finally started feeding him the ball in the last game.

Ted Ginn was a luxury pick for us as things turned out this season, hindsight being granted only to "us", it would have been better to take Okoye or Willis.

If folks will recall, Zach led the NFL in tackles last year, and our defense was #4, our "O" was the problem going into the season...

 

I saw that only ONE guy is still on the team from the 1998-2003 drafts (Yeremiah Bell)......man did we just flush all those picks away. :sad:

I think Huizenga decided Muellers fate, not BP.
His decision to hire Parcells, simply stated his preparedness to move in another direction.
Parcell's only implemented what Wayne had set forth for him to do.

In our best interests, I think Mueller was clearly thinking of our future, but underestimated the consequences of moving too hastily toward that objective. This, by undercutting our current talent to an extent that led us into a mid season scramble, to derail a runaway train headed straight toward 0-16 infamy. As a result, it sent Wayne over the edge, reeling for the nearest exit door, but apparently found BP's before he got there.
His fate, may have ultimately been the backlash of sending Wayne's blood pressure through the roof!

 

Our director of college scouting, Chris Grier, knows more about the college talent than Mueller does. Even IF we don't have Ireland on hand by then, Grier can do it. There really is no way Jerbo can stop Ireland from leaving now for a promotion though. Also there is a good chance BP will hire Joey Clinkscales from the Jets as asst GM and he could do it too.

 

He also scares defenses and special teams units with his speed. He changes the way special teams and defensive units defend him.

 

I am so glad that Mueller is gone! The Ginn pick was the biggest mistake I have seen. Every year the fins are reaching with their first round pick. Its time to get a dependable player in the first round. If you look at the 2007 draft you will see a lot of great players that were selected after Ginn. The two top corners were still on the board, the top defensive tackle was still there and not to mention Brady Quinn. Ginn was far from being the best player available at number 9.

The bottom line is Mueller deserved to get fired and so does Cameron. I also blame him for not preserving the 1972 dolphin record! The sooner this guy is gone the better!

 

I know we need speed at the receiver positon but Ginn is far from a polished receiver. I think we probably could of got this guy later on in the draft. The fins have a lot more needs right now. Our secondary is horrible and we also can't stop the run. Ginn was not worth picking at number nine and anyone that thinks so needs to get some coffee.

Every year its the same story in the first round - a player that is not worth picking high in the first round. The last pick we got right in the first round was Ronnie Brown!

I actually agree with you... on Ginn..., Brown was top ten... and the best RB..., better than Gore but their was some top-notch Denseive help there that we passed up..., I'm happy with Brown..., like Ginn but not at no.9
