Let’s go on the record so 3 years from now we can reflect on which of us “experts†had it right….and, since we are coming into the AS game season soon, and we all think we know football,,,,,let’s go on the record with some guys that we think have NFL upside above what we “readâ€â€¦let’s go on the record with what we see…..i.e. guys not on every list we read or guys you personally rate higher than the “EXPERTSâ€.
I will list mine and although I have mucho tapes I have not watched them with any depth, this will be a large school list since those are the games I actually see…..
QB:
Matt Flynn, LSU: I am on the record with this guy. Great field awareness, QB make up, good enough arm, above average mobility, and the most competitive QB I have seen in a long time.
Paul Smith, Tulsa: Undersized but great anticipation, awareness is above average and decent mobility. Watching him anticipate out patterns and option patterns is a pretty. Good competitor. Put some additional pounds and strength on him and you got a prospect…..
Ben Mauk, Cincy: Small at 6-1, but decent build, Lots of injury history but his arm is very good despite previous shoulder problems…a swagger and again very competitive…not a Parcells type but I like him……
RB:
Cory Boyd, South Carolina:not going to blow anyone away but above average in every physical skill set….Speed reported at 4.5 or so, good inside runner and excellent pass catcher…..
TE:
Martin Rucker (20-30 guy in my book)
Dustin Kellar, Purdue
WR:
Andre Caldwell, Florida
Paul Hubbard, Wisconsin
Harry Douglas, Louisville
Marcus Monk, Arkansas
OT:
Phil Loadholt, Oklahoma
Tyler Luellen, Mizzou
Tony Hills, Texas
Pedro Sosa, Rutgers
OG
Kerry Brown (APP. St.)…I rate much, much higher than the experts…
Shannon Tevaga, UCLA
C:
Adam Kraus, Michigan
Fernando Velasco, Georgia
DE:
Tyson Jackson, LSU
Chris Harrington, Texas A/M (no quit in this guy!!!)
DT: Keith Shologan, UCF
LB:
Curtis Gatewood, Vandy
Gary Guyton, GT
Dan Conner (yeah I know…love him though)
Ben Moffit
Jasper Brinkley (injury and 6th year???)
CB:
Trae Williams, USF
Jonothan Zenon, LSU
Glen Sharp (down year is due to hammy)
Anton Cason, Arizona
S:
Wesley Woodyard, Kentucky
DJ Wolfe, Oklahoma
And some OERRATED GUY’s …IMHO
Eric Ainge, Joe Flacco, JD Booty, Rashard Mendenhall, Mike Hart, Early Doucett, Eddie Royal, Sam Baker, Gosder Cheriluis (sorry Boomer), Heath Benedict (not seen, but can’t support a documented non competitor), King Dunlap (why he is not better is beyond me), Eric Young, John Carlson, John Sullivan, Drew Miller, Calais Campbell, Wallace Gilberry, Cedric Ellis, Kentawn Balmer, Demario Pressley, Brian Cushing, Phillip Wheeler (WAY way O.R. in my book), Shawn Crable, Geno Hayes, Robert Killabrew, James Laurantis, Reggie Smith, DeJuan Tribble, Chevis Jackson, Kenny Phillips, and Jonathan Heffney..
-
-
I think Mike Hart will be decent in NFL.
-
Dorsey. I'll start there with my number 1.
-
But I think smith might get nicked a lot, he already has a shoulder history. He runs pretty upright, takes a lot of upper body shots and I am not real sure he has long speed. He is also not a quick back, he is a strider...best running out of a deep set and would be PERFECT as a Bronco...one cut system.... I think he will be very good, but only in the right system, and not a Steeler or Cardinal system............MHO only though......... -
Run DMC is the best player IMHO but I do not think that there is any way we take him with our holes and needs elsewhere.........Ryan is not a top 10 maybe not top 15 player and he is the best QB out there probably..........I do not like Ellis much, so if we want DT those are the two........ -
But he showed this year that he can take any pounding you give him. I dont think he will get near the workload that he got this year. If he did, I would definatly be worried... but they will back it down with the 4 RB recruits they got this year... and will spell him more often.
He has the best vision in the nation, great cutting ability, and tremendous explosion and burst through the hole.
He needs to bulk up his upper body a little... and will probably add about 8lbs in the offseason and get up to around 220lbs...
But ya, he would DOMINATE in Denver's system... -
These are my sleepers
QB:
Chad Henne, Michigan
Matt Flynn, LSU
RB:
Matt Forte, Tulane
TE:
Martin Rucker, Missouri (dont really see him as a sleeper)
WR:
Jordy Nelson, Kansas ST
Bruce Hocker, Duquesne
OL:
T- Chris Williams, Vanderilt
T- Heath Benedict, Newberry
G- Robert Felton, Arkansas
DL:
DE- Kendall Langord, Hampton (Saw this kid play and he's a monster, great for a 3-4 DE)
NT- Red Bryant , Texas A&M
NT- Jason Shirley, Fresno ST
LB:
ILB- Beau Bell, UNLV
ILB- Corey Mckeon, Nebraska
ILB- Jonathan Goff, Vanderbilt
OLB- Shawn Crable, Michigan
OLB- Erza Butler, Nevada
CB:
Charles Godfrey, Iowa
Dwight Lowery, San Jose ST
Dominique Rogers-Cromartie Tennesse ST
Zack Bowman, Nebraska
S:
Caleb Campbell, Army
Josh Barrett, Arizona ST -
I don't think McFadden is built for the NFL IMO, plus why on earth do we draft another RB?
-
Ralph,
I only actually saw Beau Bell once and was watching in a group setting so I did not include him but I was impressed...just did not look real closely, reminded me of Ben Moffit.
Caleb Campbell I am not sure of his service committment but man he sure looks the part...big guy for a safety...also only saw Army-Navy...but he reads well from the Scouting services.
Have not seen DR-C yet but he also read like a player.
Not sure on the Heath Benedict fasanation here...the guy quit on UT and showed no maturity heading out of Knoxville, and has only dominated way lesser opponents and even there i have read he has given away plays...not sure i want a guy that does not want to compete at the highest level...
i love Martin Rucker...IMHO he is a much better fit for this offense than Davis or any of the other top TE's.
I agree with most of your post, just never actually seen many of these guys and I tend to get a lot of disagreement because I go a lot on what I see not what I read and sometimes I only see their best game,,,,not every game, so I get a juandace view. I love CFB but I don't love it enough to watch every damn game.....
..and I have not seen many of these guys with any depth yet.... -

In the past, the only pick I got right was the Solai pick.
With that said, I'll go on record and say we will either pick Gholston or Dorsey #1. -
Ben Mauk's injury was pretty gruesome. He practices with a smaller football during the week so he doesn't have fatigue. He plays fearless but I think the injury is going to scare everybody away from him.
Martellus Bennett I think is all but done at A&M. I'd be shocked if he went back. IMO, he'll test the best at the combine. Though his attitude will have him drop.
I think Crable from Michigan will be a solid pro. McFadden gets the publicity but I really think Felix Jones will be very good.
I doubt he comes out this year because he was injured most of the year but Brian Cushing impressed the hell out of me last year when healthy. Owen Schmitt's story is great and I think he'll become one of the better blocking fullbacks. Limas Sweed got injured early in the year he's a big talented guy.
Guys who i'm not sold on are Matt Ryan, great tools but questionable decision making. Andre Woodson has a big slow delivery which will hurt him. Steve Slaton really should go back to school he had a dissapointing season, IMO. -
I'm pretty sure Mauck was given a 6th year of eligibility at UC.
-
First of all, it's Sedrick Ellis, and second of all, he's about as overrated as Jessica Alba's breasts.
-
dosen't rucker look really thin to be a tight -end ?
-
here's my under the rader list
QB
Josh Johnson, San Diego- Has thrown more than 30 TDs and less than 10 INTs for 3 straight years. Fairly accurate, and mobile
RB
Chris Johnson, ECU- Number 1 senior RB, but not enough people know about him. Has experience at both WR and RB so he's a lot like Lo Booker.
WR
Luke Swan, Wisconsin-suffered a torn hammy half way through season. Veyr reliable hands and good slot WR. If he gets invited to a camp or drafted late, he'll make the team.
TE
Kellen Davis, Michigan State- Not used much under John L Smith, and plays both sides of the ball. Big body and athletic. Could be a steal
OT
Chris Williams, Vandy-Big tackle that could step in right away
OG
Bobby Byrd, Washington State- Another big O-lineman that could develop into a decent guard down the road.
C
Steve Justice, Wake Forrest- Probably top C in the draft, but again, does not get attention he deserves
DE
Jason Jones, Eastern Michigan-Great physical speciman, but extremely raw
DT
Kentwan Balmer, North Carolina-Fringe first rounder. A little light right now, but has the frame to get a lot bigger.
OLB
Ezra Butler, Nevada- Since someone already mentioned Beau Bell. Butler has a lot of the same characteristics of Bell and could be a pleasant surprise for whoever drafts him
ILB
Ben Moffit USF- Pretty much a 6'2 version of Zach. Doesn't project well, but you don't want to doubt him.
CB
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie,Tennessee State-Has only been playing football for 5 years so he's extremely raw, BUT has been very productive and has great measurables
S
Jamar Adams, Michigan-Good size (6'1 210) and decent speed (4.5), has gotten better each year for the maize and blue. Still needs work in coverage, but is getting better. Sure tackler and also a big hitter. -
We draft a RB because its been like 4 years since we had a starting RB play from start to finish. I don't know about you but I don't think averaging 13 points a game is getting us anywhere. -
These guys are my all overlooked team and I think they're going to have very productive careers and will be of great value no matter where they're selected.

Ben Moffett from USF would be a great replacement for the inside. -
It is an opinion,,,every one may have a differing one........, how about this......HK....in HK's opinion SEDRICK Ellis is not in any way over-rated...and in my 2 cents opinion he is...acceptable?
Hell I though Ryan Leaf would be good, thought Gallery was great...I can go back to Mandarich whom I thought would be great......I can go way back and pull on my memory banks and recall thinking how Robin Fisher was such a great pick up in the 10th or whatever, how Larry Kolic was such a good pick.....or how Eddie Weaver was a great FA signing...
So yeah I am wrong some, but hell it is a lot of fun and interest's me....are you always right...and are Jessica Alba's breast's real ..... and how did you get this ability? -
-
My two overlooked guys come from my alma mater (Colorado):
LB: Jordan Dizon
CB: T. Wheatley -
the pick is a lock it is chris long
