Jeremiah mock 1.0:
JOSH ALLEN QB Wyoming
This would be a bit of a surprise, but the Dolphins can't continue to rely on Ryan Tannehill.
Brooks Mock Draft 1.0:
QUENTON NELSON G Notre Dame
Adding a rugged road-grader will give the Dolphins' O-line a little more toughness and physicality at the point of attack.
Casserly mock 1.0:
ROQUAN SMITH OLB Georgia
Smith's an excellent athlete who excels in coverage.
Zierlein mock draft 1.0:
BAKER MAYFIELD QB Oklahoma
Adam Gase has worked with a variety of quarterbacks and understands how to finesse his offense to fit the strengths of his QB.
Chad Reuter mock draft 1.0
MARCUS DAVENPORT DE Texas-San Antonio
While Davenport is still raw in some ways, his length and agility will pay dividends for the Dolphins sooner than some might expect.

Here’s the 3 players I want... and this is in order btw...
1. Josh Jackson, this kid single handily changes our defense.. he will be what Revis was in his prime..
2. Calvin Ridley.. i have doubts he falls past 10.. wouldnt mind trading up for a true #1 receiver talent like him tho..
3. Baker Mayfield, kid is a gamer, i like Allen over him but Josh will get picked in the top 5.Last edited: Feb 25, 2018 -
Maybe I’m weird but I really love the attitude and apart Baker brings to the huddle. He’s fun to watch and you know he cares. While he is a bit of a risk I love the kids heart just like I did Zach Thomas because everyone said he was to small.
I think Gase could do magic with BakerSurfs Up 99, miamiron and Phin McCool like this. -
Guys I would take at #11
1. Tremaine Edmunds : 19 year old fluid linebacker who hasn’t even grown into his body yet. Athletic enough and has ideal size to cover Tight Ends, which can’t be said enough how bad of a need that is for us.
2. Baker Mayfield : I like Tannehill as our starter in 2018, however this pick would light a fire under his a** and would really push him. If Tannehill picks up where he left off in 2016, you can trade Baker. Would be a good investment either way IMO.
3. Vita Vea : If the rumors are true regarding Suh possibly on his way out, Vea would be the best replacement for Suh and imo the only interior dlineman worth a pick this early. Vita would help eat up blockers like Suh and would help our other guys like Harris get to the QB.miamiron likes this. -

Heres some things to consider.
1. Don't see Miami trading up. But I wouldn't rule it out. Tannenbaum has been aggressive in his career in doing so and there are a number of FO people enamoured with Baker Mayfield especially, including Adam Gase.
2. Saquon Barkley would be an interesting conversation should he fall. And he might, especially with the dealing up that there'll be for quarterbacks. Because don't forget, the winner of the Kirk Cousins derby is automatically out of the race for a passer. And if that's Cleveland, Denver or the Jets at 4, 5 or 6, then you'd be thinking about Arizona or more likely Buffalo moving up into one of those slots. Guice is going to be appealing.
3. I don't see a tackle they would like at that point and I suspect they retain James and rightly so. He's an upper echelon RT.
4. Doubt it will be Nelson, in the main because Gase doesn't value guards. I've spoken to him about it and he wants guards to hold their position for the two seconds it should take Ryan to get the ball out. He's very good, but I don't see Miami taking a guard.
5. Can't see it being Calvin Ridley either. Not because he's not really good because he absolutely is. And maybe they do with half an eye on Parker becoming a FA next year potentially. The WR they will like - if they lose Landry - is Christian Kirk of Texas A+M. But not at 11. However if they dealt down - let's say a Josh Allen falls to 11 - then you could see them sliding down.
6. There's not a TE close to being value
7. Defensively, Chubb should go to Indy at 3. Harold Landry has elite get off but is a one trick pony at this stage. But he'd have to be on the list of possibilities. Same with Marcus Davenport although I personally can't see it being him.
8. At some point Suh's contract and his incredible snap count is going to catch up with everyone. They have three really good young players there in Phillips, Godchaux and Taylor but both Vita Vea and especially Da'Ron Payne are going to be very appealing indeed. Taven Bryan as well potentially.
9. At linebacker, Rashaan Evans, Tremaine Edmunds and Roquan Smith are all highly placed to be the pick at 11. Smith's ability as a tackler and his speed are going to be hugely appealing, despite the fact he's light at 230. Edmunds is raw, but developed hugely in season and at 19 he has All Pro potential moving forwards. Evans is a really smart player who brings the ability to rush the passer on third downs. All three could play multiple spots at LB.
10. Minkah Fitzpatrick will likely be gone. But Derwin James has to be a very, very strong possibility. As a jack of all trades box player with the ability to erase tight ends, he's going to be extremely hard to pass on.
11. This is an astonishingly good CB class. Mike Hughes, Josh Jackson, Isaiah Oliver, Carlton Davis and Denzel Ward will all appeal for different reasons at 11. Ward can be your Chris Harris type with his outstanding feet and with half an eye on Bobby McCain's impending free agency in 2019. Davis and Jackson are long and quick and tough, Hughes for me is the best CB in the class, Davis is a hugely confident press corner who could be as good as anything.
12. Ultimately I think it will be one of the guys in bold.
13. Which means it'll be someone else.
14. Seriously though, this is why the Club Level is so good.Surfs Up 99, OCDolfan, MrClean and 16 others like this. -
Boy if thats true we are in the worst hands I can ever remember... Incompetency is bad enough but if true stupidity takes the cake... I can now understand that deer in the headlights look the last couple years at his PC's and understand his choice of Cutler....it now makes sense...
A 2 second OL ....... what am I on an alternate universe ....
That doesnt shock the hell out you Boomer ????? (if true thats just to stupid to argue against) Can see us going far again this year lolLast edited: Feb 25, 2018 -
It would be a tough choice between Smith and Edmunds at LB. With Smith's speed and his ability to cover TEs would make him a tempting choice, but Edmunds' skill set and potential just seems off the charts.
As for the QBs, I really wish the Jets would sign Cousins because if not, i could see them taking Mayfield. However, that could be one of those "be careful what you wish for" things as Cousins could go to the Jets and end up burning us as he has proven to be a solid QB.
Mayfield, Minkah or Edmunds would make me happy. -
As for the guard issue, remember this: Gase doesn’t like running the ball. It’s a means to an end for him. It’s why Jarvis catches so many passes because he’s often viewed as an extension of the run game. What Gase does is very similar to what Josh McDaniels does in NE in that respect, certainly earlier in Josh’s career. Ultimately when I say he doesn’t value guards, he obviously does, but to a far lesser extent than most coaches. He’d like his guards to be able to run block capably but not to be overly finesse as pass protectors. He wants the ball out of Ryan’s hands quickly. He isn’t an advocate of paying premiums for that position.
For the record Gase is really good for this team. Really good. Trust me.Surfs Up 99, MrClean, Phin McCool and 8 others like this. -
I'm going to tell everyone this and mark my words...if we draft a QB in the first round of the draft, we're a 7-9 or 6-10 team at best for 2018.
All of you screaming for a quarterback will get what you want and yet...will be screaming for Gase's head at the end of the season.Pandarilla, Irishman, VManis and 2 others like this. -
Maybe no deer in the headlights and "the smartest guy in the room", is not that reassuring . Considering Post game reactions, handling of players, preparation of players, (more penalties than you can count and not being fixed, game after game) to begin with, just don't see a person I feel has a pulse at times of knowing what is happening to him and a beginner learning his new craft (position). Give him a D so far....
His less of a value with the OL if true will be his downfall (as already seen) and if he really thinks their value is so minimal he deserves to go damn Now....
Put the load on RT still not knowing what He is, and with a half azz OL doesn't seem to be the knowledge of Head coaching so called "wonderboy" though I do say there are reasons to wonder
Mark my words my friend: I'm telling you now, No MAJOR quality upgrade of the OL (2-3 guys) and we are not going anywhere no matter who else we pick up in FA, whether a pro bowl WR, TE, LB or even a Tom Brady. Its so clear in my mind that it amazes me the lack of response to upgrading OL with the Quality available out there NOW
Damn I'm just a middle road Dolfin fan for about 50 years and don't claim to be the expert but to neglect the OL again not only will be disastrous but just out right stupid and after finally getting the handle on an organization of incompetence, stupid is another level and I'm done if thats the level we have to be exposed to. Well I hope I'm done but the addiction is pretty strong I've been discovering the last 5 years.miamiron likes this. -
It's going to be an interesting first couple of weeks in the offseason. I do think that we will be drafting a Quarterback in first round this year and I think that player will either be Baker Mayfield or Josh Rosen. I think this team recognizes that it's time once again to find a franchise player at that position. Tannehill has been a mediocre to solid player his entire career and he has shown all the flashes of being a great quarterback, but I think his shelf life in Miami is expiring. Ross loves to make a splash in the offseason and I think at times Tannenbaum and Gase have to kind of reel him in from doing something crazy. The guy is not afraid to go all in at times and you have to admire that about him. I've heard rumors that we are impressed with Baker Mayfield, he seems like a Gase type of player and I think he's the guy we end up with.

I don't think Mayfield will be even be close to available at 11, after the combine his stock is going to rise in my opinion. so I think RT will be starting in 2018, Mayfield is a gamer and if he is available at 11 I will be ecstatic to have him in south beach.Fin-O likes this. -
Miami could offer Tanny and #11 to the Browns for pick #1, if they are in love with Mayfield. Get a vet QB to start for part of the season, even Moore would be fine for 5-6 games. Another 5-6 win season, but Mayfield gets significant playing time to be ready for 2019.
It would be a HUGE gamble, so you'd better be sure.bigballa2102 likes this. -

Like I said, don't underestimate the guy. At all. He handles the players very well. They love playing for him. They know exactly what's required of them. The penalties are an issue and he and the coaching staff are absolutely partly to blame. But the players shoulder an awful lot of that burden. I think it's harsh to give him a D given everything that's happened. He turned a bad team into a playoff team with an incredible will and attitude, DESPITE losing their quarterback. The way that team rallied around Gase after they went 0-4 should tell you an awful lot.
Last year was a similar case. You lose your franchise passer in the summer. What else can you do? I don't blame him for reaching out to Cutler. At all. Miami finished the season better off than they would have been should Matt Moore have started. But the bottom line is that he's not going anywhere. He's very well liked by players and by management and beloved by Ross. Has he had some bumps? Of course He's also had his franchise passer for less than a third of two seasons. He dealt correctly with a huge miscreant in Jay Ajayi - don't get me started on that. The very last thing this team needs is for Gase to go anywhere. Trust me.
He's also hamstrung by poor front office decisions which don't help his cause. And remember, who's REALLY neglecting the OL? They have three first rounders on there. That's not neglect.Fin D, Fin-O, eltos_lightfoot and 4 others like this. -

It’s utterly amazing to me how so many folks here are judging Tannehill based on Cutler’s disappointing season last year
Ohio Fanatic, OKStateFinsFan, LI phinfan and 2 others like this. -
But in this particular area I totally disagree with they way you see Gase and the hardships he seems to have little or no responsibility for.
Can't say I could come close to your level of evaluation but feel really strong here and he's shown me very little to be excited about for now going on three years.
handles players well...not
coaching staff partially responsible....guys he put together
Cutler..... thought his previous knowledge was of value with him but seems like most of the fans telling us what cutler really was were right....QB guru ?????
Another year of this crap is just to much but we will see who's closer to reality.
I hope your right but man I highly doubt it.Last edited: Feb 26, 2018 -

We are going 7-9 next year regardless who we pick because we are capped out eith mediocre players. Aint no other team out there has such little cap space yet little production in wins as the dolphins do. We have some work to do cap wise for the 2019 offseason..
-
Don't really feel that there are actually many judging RT because of Cutler. Think if you want to judge or rather place blame that would need to fall on the Head Coach who had a great amount of experience with Cutler and his so called abilities and chose him as our guy, (some can consider a mistake....big mistake). We could of got the same conclusion with Moore and saved 10 mil. for that matter without doing anything.....
And to be fair, RT still has a hand to play for legitimate judgement...bigballa2102 likes this. -
My issue with aiming for “good enough” guards is that we’ve consistently failed to hit that target. Do you think that more a problem with the talent evaluation/acquisition process or a problem with the OL coaching?
I won’t get into the philosophy of what should be goal in building an OL because Gase has his views and for better or worse we won’t change them. -
Fans telling the coaching staff about Cutler......telling them what my man? Cutler was the best option Miami had. Matt Moore is great off the bench as a spark plug. This team wouldn't have won four games with him and we'd have been playing Brandon Doughty at some stage. Trust me.
Expectations have to be lowered when you lose your franchise passer.MrClean, LI phinfan and Fin D like this. -

Cutler ? ...Moore, Doughty, Colin Kaepernick, funny you can fill in the blanks with anyone and end up with the same season ending big time losers result.... win 4 games or 10 WHO GIVES A CRAP. Friggin Playoff excuse .... that was one of worse things to happen to us because it gives a sinking ship a life vest to think its even on the same page as the ligitmate contenders. Buffallo made the playoffs...that a good team ????
This filling the holes to get to a playoff game is a nightmare and hasn't worked for 20 years. ( OK twice with 2 still crappy teams)
Until we have a little common sense and someone who see's the need for a legitimate REBUILD we will just be spinning our wheels for another 15 years. And one that starts with the OL .....
Damn Boomer outside of basic knowledge and instincts, your little toe holds more knowledge of the game than me, but after being on the Same Merry-go-round for so long I've actually learned what failure and ineptitude looks like and the Dolphins have a PHD in that dept. I hate to say....
Wish I had some expectations to lower, its reach that point I'm so disappointed in this team and the fog it can't get out of.Last edited: Feb 27, 2018dolphin25 likes this. -
