It looks... a LOT like Fallout 3. Very similar color palette and aesthetic, without the green filter. This almost certainly takes place in and around Boston as rumored, so it's a second east coast Fallout game, rather than a new west coast Fallout.

Relatively unimpressive reveal TBH, although I know it'll be a great game.

I agree that the reveal is unimpressive. I'm not sure why they felt the need to reintroduce the retro-futuristic setting. Seems like bad marketing to me.
But whether or not it's a great game... well, if it doesn't have enormous amounts of Fallout 3 like plot holes, it should be OK.

Or the whole nuclear detonation thing......again. Seems redundant. We get it, hence the name Fallout.

We may get it, but it has been 7 years since Fallout 3 came out. Some people in the target demographic may never have played these games before.

5 years since the superior Fallout New Vegas. That they felt the need to reintroduce the concept of the series is a failure on the part of their release priorities. There should have been an interim Fallout related game over the last 5 years.
Anyway, we'll see what they have in store. A 2 to 4 player coop mode would be nice, like GTA Online heists.

I don't care for Dogmeat, dies too often. I don't like companions I have to babysit, they become a liability instead of an asset...which is why Fawkes is the GOAT Follower xD

Fixed.

Nope.
This series dates back to '97, majority of people haven't play 1 or 2, or Tactics for that matter. There was a 10 year gap between 2 and 3 (A milestone that Half Life 3 is approaching :( ) Most people picked up at 3 and played Vegas. There is no story interconnection between those two games either. Factions, and game play is similar, obviously, but story line does not cross over. Chances that this game will have anything to do with first two are slim because the first two take place on the West Coast if I recall correctly, at least the first one does for sure, and this one is based on the East Coast - in Bawston.
If you like Sandbox games, or better yet Sandbox RPGs, do yourself a favor and pick up Fallout 3 GOTY. Without looking it up, I highlgy doubt it is more than $15 for a used copy at game stop for either system, and you can sink upwards of 200 hours in to it if you chose to. The world is pretty BIG and number of things you can do is ridiculous. You will also form an opinion about 4, without realizing it. If you like 3, chances are you will like 4. If you don't like 3? Dont spend money on 4
But seriously, when i was running couple of GameStops, and people ask me for what I recommend as a cheap time killer - always went with Fallout 3. Incredible, incredible game.

I'd like to modify this statement: if you dislike 3 for reasons that have little to do with the core scavenging gameplay, such as not liking the setting or the writing, then try Fallout New Vegas. If you dislike the core gameplay of 3, THEN you should avoid spending money on 4.
Actually, I recommend New Vegas anyway. IMO it is far superior to 3.

Truth be told, Dogmeat with the add-on that continues the main story of the game is dang near unkillable.
As for Fawkes and Boone.... it depends. Storywise, there's a lot more too Boone. Plus, he's so dang cold with his kills. But as far as durability (especially figuring in add-on).... Fawkes is dang near Colossus during that brief time when he became the Juggernaut.

Eh, I don't agree. It's pretty much Boone > everybody else in pretty much every scenario, unless you are trying to do slaver missions.
On a side note, apparently the trailer was made on the engine. So...http://s.imgur.com/a/1hv4d/#28 this is what the game might look like.

IMO it was pretty obvious the trailer contained in-game footage. Bethesda's typical bizarre animation was on display (look at the awkwardness of the dog running), and the game appears to be using the Skyrim engine, so the graphics were not what we would expect from a 2015 game (hi, Arkham Knight). It looks a couple of years old. Good, and an upgrade from FONV/FO3, but it does look a little outdated.
But the practice of showing actual in game footage in a trailer is amazing and should be encouraged.

it would make sense if the reports were true around the time of the skyrim unveiling. it was reported then that bethesda was working on two games, one being skyrim and the other an unknown game, which was always assumed to be fallout 4. the rumor said the unknown game was further along in development than most people would have thought.
to me nothing will top fallout 2 IMO, to me the best fallout 4 would be taking the world building of fallout 3 from bethesda and everything else from fallout new vegas and obsidian.

Definitely agree. I do hate the trailer-catfishing.
Somebody already figured out some of the location in the new game based on the trailer.

While the extended wait for Fallout4 may show in the graphics, lets not forget just how damn buggy Fallout 3 was. There were some near gamebreaking bugs in there. While Im not holding my breath that Fallout4 will be bugfree(yeah right lol), still the time to polish and optimize the game should make things much smoother this time around.
Goodbye green/amber filters! One thing I have always hated in games was the feeling of environments being too similar and bland. Fallout has always done an amazing job at making their settings feel realistic, but the color filters just ended up making too many areas feel the same. Im stoked for this.
A couple updates, just based on what I've seen come across my FB feed this morning ...
1) Release date is October of this year.
2) Supposedly you can use anything and everything for crafting.
