I'm all for community relations - particularly in the offseason - but I wouldn't cancel practice to go paint a school.
Shula never would have done this.

Good stuff, Hope they don't have Tannehill use the big paint roller and throw out his shoulder :shifty:

I like the lesson... I wonder though., wouldn't these players be willing to do it on an off-day?
Also, Philbs please make sure the guys with back-concerns aren't doing the landscaping if it involves bending over, moving rocks, shovelling, moving heavy sod or dirt etc.
No injuries on a day off of practice pls!!!

Who cares what Shula would have done? It was a different time, different world then.
Stop being so dramatic.
Teams all over the NFL this season have been cancelling offseason practices. Hell, Arizona did the same thing today. These kinds of decisions help teams bond with each other, and their coaching staffs as it's the coaches giving them the "day off".

Honestly don't have a problem with it... it's an OTA not a practice. To me, the term practice implies an impending game at the end of the week. Anyway, can you imagine the look on these kids' faces when these big football players walk in... Suh? I think that'll be priceless for the kids and hopefully some of the players as well.

I don't think missing one OTA is going to matter in the least bit. We're not going to be at the end of the season saying, "Man, if we'd just have had that ONE OTA, we'd have made the playoffs!!"

Obviously, they're practicing their Splatoon skills.
But seriously, great stuff. -

How many times have we heard, "it's just in shorts...talk to me when the pads are on?"
1 missed OTA = WTF ever. The Bills attended a Jim Kelly event instead of an OTA...the Pats skipped an OTA to help Brady with her tampon insertion technique (anybody else see that? no?)...other teams have skipped an OTA day to do other things...not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
I think it's a great thing they did.Fin4Ever likes this. -

OTA's are organized team ACTIVITIES. Anything from "practice", to workouts, to team bonding trips, or community service type things like this. If you do some research, you'll note that all kinds of teams cancelled a "practice" to do something like this. Some just flat out didn't even schedule a practice, and scheduled an alternate activity. Probably exactly what we did here, but it's better for the coaching staff to tell the players hey guys... we're cancelling practice today! OTA's are all about team building more than anything. That's done by more way's than having a "practice" that's softer in nature than you and your buddies organizing a game of touch or flag football.
Relax.
I'm waiting for the post now after our first loss...
"Remember when we cancelled that OTA practice...:tantrum:"
