Imo Deserved the job based on last years performance relative to the surrounding roster, respect of the coaches, exp with new system.. nothing to do with Tua. Will keep the job until his team falls out of playoff contention..
It’s his final chance to make a run and see how long he can go.resnor likes this. -
No surprise there. Fitz has earned the job and Tua needs to sit and learn. This is as it should be.

So a QB that was drafted #5 overall, who many on here were afraid that wouldn't make it to #5 because "he's that good", he's a "franchise QB" and also a "generational talent" can't beat out a journeyman QB for the starting job? And you're all fine with this? A QB drafted that high should start from game one unless he's drafted to a team with a hall of famer in front of him. Another wasted pick

He earned it but I fully expect him to revert to the real Ryan Fitzpatrick sooner than later. He's done it everywhere he has been in his career.

Especially with Tua who has been recovering from an injury and during a truncated offseason it's OK to be cautious and take your time. Personally, I don't see Fitz as having a full seasons worth of high level play in him, so I suspect we see Tua at some point. But Fitz earned his start as much for being the heart and soul of the team last year and a veteran leader and mentor through camp this year as much or moreso than his actual talent. He deserves the shot regardless of how it goes.
Take it case by case, player by player. Drawing such a far reaching conclusion based on literally nothing is just empty *****ing.

This is the thing that causes me to shake my head about collegiate to pro athletes. Since were discussing Tua, let’s go that route. Throughout his college career, Tagovailoa lined up against maybe 5 or 6 NFL caliber defenders every game, every week. All the other defensive players, their football career was finished upon graduating. Now Tua, or any other drafted QB is now lining up against 11 NFL caliber players. That’s an entirely different situation and to simply assume that a qb in college excelled in the NCAA, he’s going to excel in the NFL is ludicrous.
Hopefully Tua will get some playing time this season...whether he relieves Fitz because we’re that far ahead or behind...or Flores feels it’s time ie; Marino finally taking over for Woodley. But until the time comes that your thoroughbred race horse is ready to run, you don’t put him on the track to run until he’s readyresnor likes this. -

Personally, I think he will be starting sooner rather than later based on Fitz's track record. -

Eli Manning didn't start his first game with the Giants. That job went to Kurt Warner.
Donovan McNabb didn't start his first game, that was Doug Pederson.
Phillip Rivers waited two years
Daunte Culpepper waited for a year
Some of y'all just don't like Tua and are using this boost your agenda towards proving your point/predictions. It's not uncommon for rookies to sit and learn. Even high draft picks wait. I'm willing to bet we see Tua fairly soon anyway. By mid October probably.Tin Indian and resnor like this. -
I'll second the wasted pick aspect but I'd also say his winning or not winning the job right away isnt a proof of it.

What is the history of top 5 QB picks? Do game 1 starters have a better history of production over QBs who don’t start game 1? If so by how much and what is the variation?
Believe me I read what you said, and treated it as unscientific drivel that deserved to be mocked. -
A quarterback drafted that high and tossed to the wolves rarely results in him able to transition to the pro level.resnor likes this. -
Lol @ talking about Marino going at 27. He dropped that far because of the off the field rumors, cocaine, etc. He was going to be a top pick prior to the rumors.

I pretty much agree with you Tin but truthfully, win lose or draw is like to see Tagovailoa finish the season at week 10 or 11...unless by some crazy miracle we’re in playoff contention with Fitzpatrick
