Fitz is a strange dude. He has far too much confidence in himself if he truly believed that. He's not Aaron Rodgers, he was a placeholder and everyone knew it.

I think we'll always kind of wonder why the team put Tua in. They weren't exactly killing it with Ryan Fitzpatrick. He was 3-3 if I recall correctly so there wasn't a lot to lose.
Still though, most people (even in the media) expected Tua to sit for a year for health reasons alone. The idea the Dolphins threw him out there with all that in addition to the lack of a proper offseason is just weird.
Maybe Brian Flores believed Tua needed to see the field no matter whether he was ready? Maybe Grier pushed for it so he could get a sense of how capable Tua really was? Maybe Stephen Ross had say?
It's all confusing.resnor likes this. -

Tua was not going to be the starter last season. Too many unknowns, particularly with him coming off major surgery but the Dolphins had to see what Tua could do. What he did well, where he was weak and give the rookie some exposure to the lightening fast speed of the game at the NFL level. The organization got exactly what they wanted which, in my opinion was why they put him in when they did…and why they pulled him when they did.
Fast forward 1 year and there’s no doubt Tua is the starter…and he’s had ample time to work on what he needed to and the organization has revamped the offense to fit Tagovailoa strengths.
I think last year’s exposure to the game as a rookie is going to do him a world of good this year
just my opinion of course…I could be wrong -

Fitz was the PERFECT QB for that two-year transition and I can't understand anyone having a negative opinion of him. Without him, we could easily still be in year-one stages of the rebuild cycle. -

From these posts, it sounds like the decision probably came from above Flores and maybe even Grier. They can't publicly comment but I doubt they were thrilled with having the move forced on them.Sceeto likes this. -
Gailey didn't join a Super Bowl contender last season. He joined a rebuilding club that needed a lot of help all over the offensive side of the ball. And it really, really sounds like he wasn't fully committed to that. Which makes it even stranger that Flores seemed to laser in on Gailey specifically when he unexpetedly fired Chad O'Shae, who's offense had come alive the second half of 2019 and seemed to have momentum.
To this point, Flores gets sky high marks in virtually every other aspect of his job as the Fins HC. But he continues to drop the ball in getting the right man to lead the offense, and its going to bite him in the rear end if he isn't careful. -

I personally don't think his job was to develop Tua at all- I'd say they planned for 2020 to be the Fitz-Magic show basically the whole year. But I also think the difference was Flores and how quickly he had players buy in, play tough, etc...we should have been a 5-win team with that roster. -
The fanbase blew him for being silly, having a funny beard and playing a very mediocre quarterback.
What do you expect? -
Fitzy had every right to be pissed or upset, etc. It was a dumb move. I don't think it was Flo's decision. Just like the pick itself, it wreaked of a Ross move, a Ross bowel movement. I bet if you ask the players in private and they speak honestly, they will tell you they were shocked and pissed at the move as well. The team rallied around Fitz. He and Co Flo were the main reasons for the turnaround. It didn't happen with Rosen in there. It was Fitzy. He knew how to use his weapons. Ask Parker and Gesicki who they really wanted. Those guys came alive with Fitzy. He knew how to effectively use those receivers. I could even tell that the decision was forced on Flo. His demeanor totally changed after that happened. He was never an outspoken, boisterous kind of guy, but he just seemed pissed and extra restrained and reluctant, etc. Yes, he may just get annoyed with the media, but it really didn't feel that way to me. There was something more. Remember Flo saying; "Come on. You're going in. We need a spark"? ...and that's exactly what Fitzy did. Flo knew. There was no good reason to pull him at that time. It also sends a really bad message to the team which contradicts what Co Flo is really about. They should have let him play until this infamous Fitztragic thing came out, which we actually never really saw. Tua also just came off of a major surgery. Sit, strengthen, watch and learn, kid. That's what he needed and that's what they should have done. Bad move.

It still feels like the right moves in hindsight though. The only thing I'd change is starting Fitz a few more games, getting that 11th win and making it into the playoffs. But then what- do you start Tua in the wildcard game? And how angry would we be when we got blown out? I don't think anyone anticipated 10 wins at the point where Tua was named the starter, so it's hard to fault everything that came afterwards. -
I thought signing Fitz was a mistake from the beginning because he is almost the direct opposite of Tua, and it would be hard to design an offense that could be a transition. I really thought Miami was going to go 1-15 at best that season. I did not see Flores being able to solidify the defense as he did. Really made chicken salad out of chicken ****. And I thought Tua was going to be obviously #1 because I didn't see his hip injury happen or Burrow coming out of nowhere.
Burrow to Fitz would work.
Herbert to Fitz would work.
Hell, just do Rosen to Tua and watch Rosen fail miserably.
Tua to Fitz is just a complete redesign.
I didn't realize Gailey and Fitz would both be very unprofessional about it, so I am feeling extra vindicated now that signing Fitz was a mistake, and getting Gailey for Fitz just compounded the mistake. Our offense would have been better this year if Miami never signed Fitz.KeyFin likes this. -
My job has little in common with NFL quarterback.
Yea, it is about perspective.Unlucky 13 likes this. -
If we're trying for a real world analogy, Fitz is more like a 70 year old that never did a great job for most of his career, and most people thought would be retired by now. Some people at the office love him, but the company needs the talented new hire to be ready to take over.

Maybe Fitz assumed the job was his until the team was eliminated from playoff contention? Getting pulled for Tua came out of the blue in that case, and he got salty. I wanted Tua to have experience starting, so starting him was good, but Tua was not really put in a good position to succeed last year.
In any event, it's all in the past, so any negative comments by the beard don't really matter. -
He knew he was temp.

Rosen has gotten a totally raw deal his whole career. I badly wish he got a full season with an average team to show what he can do.
