I think we could get it done but we have to put an end to these costly mistakes.

Sub .500 teams at midseason really don't have much room to discuss playoffs, we have to win 2 games in 5 days, Carolina knows they have to win as well to keep any hope alive for the playoffs.
WE win the next two, then we can think about playoffs.djphinfan likes this. -
win out this month .... then we can look at it ....
-
Well with 9-7 we could get a playoff spot, if Texans and Chargers drops dramatically.. otherwise, we have no chance...

The schedule is favorable, but no way they go 7-1, as it will probably take 10 wins to get a wildcard spot this year.
-
id rather us go 7-9 or 8-8 with promise, and a good spot in the draft. then inch into the playoffs and get beat by the chargers or patriots
-
You must be kidding Sick?
Come on man, back to back playoff appearances with the third or 4th youngest roster in the NFL? And the youngest roster in the playoffs?
And above all, I'd love to see "AFC Champions 2009" banner hanging next to the 2008 one at the top of ThePhins.anlgp, dolphindebby and JimToss like this. -

Well the picture has way too many variables right now to think playoffs or not. If we can win our next two games the picture would certainly look much better.
But most of the remaining games become must win. I think the rematch against the pats might end up being the biggest factor if we win our next three. -
How have we done against teams that are going to the playoffs this year?2009 AFC CHAMPIONS, can I have what you are smoking.
That being said,2010 with the right free agent signings and draft we compete for the title.SICK likes this. -
no way we win the afc championship game this year. thats ridiculous imo
fact is....i have been alive sense 1987....i have never seen us in a superbowl....let alone....last time we won a superbowl....my dad was 8.
we need more to win a superbowl. we need more to go to the playoffs. if we somehow got into the playoffs....we wouldnt go far. we'd be on the road. against a better team. and it would get ugly. and what does that do? nothing. just like the patriots 18-1 team.....they didnt win the big one....and thats ALL THAT MATTERS.
id rather get a good spot in the draft and keep rebuilding (we are still rebuilding) -
No, what sank us in the early 2000's was Wanny's love affair with Felder and trading two #1 picks for Ricky W as well as taking Fletcher over Brees and Moore over Boldin.
Then Wanny promptly ran us into Cap Purgatory and gave away OGun.
Winning is always better Sick, with this FO we can find the pieces, and after the crap storm that was the phins between 2004-2007 winning is always better. -
do you think we can win the superbowl with this team? honestly?
if no. then having a good season and getting a good draft pick imo is better than going into the playoffs and losing out on spikes or a good WR -
That is absurd, whether the Wr corps is good or not, the idea is to:

I'd much prefer to be AFC champs than to spend another 7 months between seasons, assuming there is no strike, as winners. -

padre the cardinals have what the dolphins dont.....a vaunted passing attack....and they can score on any play
-
I don't know what's more promising than making the playoffs. Even if you do lose. If they make it this year I don't foresee another one and done because it's a much tougher road. If they get in there will be no doubt this time they deserve to be there.

The Colts and Pats have excellent chances of being in the AFC championship game, if this season plays out how I think it will, we will be playing the 4th team with the best chance to make the SB to end the season and more than likely for a playoff spot.
We finish the year with the Steelers.
The last contender we have not played is Bengals if we make the playoffs this year, there will be no backing into them, we will have won outright playing the toughest schedule in the NFL heading into the season.
And THAT is why JP is riding the pine, 8 games to go, we win the next two, 6 games and more than likely our destiney in our hands.
Or have you forgotten the win over the colts when Lamar Smith ran it for the GW TD? Get in the playoffs anything can happen brotha.muscle979 likes this. -

I prefer making the playoffs even if you get knocked out in the Wild Card round.
To me the bump from the confidence of making the playoffs outweighs a maybe 5 spot higher draft ranking in the first round. Plus good drafting teams don't even need those extra spots. Think of what the Pats, Colts, Eagles, and Steelers do every year picking in the mid 20s to early 30s every year. Its all about finding players and having good scouts...God knows this team has had high draft picks that turn out to be complete duds.
Imagine as fans our confidence had the Fins missed the playoffs last year by say losing that last game to the Jets and then imagine what it does to the players. You always want to go out on the highest point possible but only one team gets to win the Super Bowl so the further you go the better. I say a season in terms of confidence goes: three games or more under .500, two games under .500, at .500, then over .500 but miss playoffs, then playoffs, advancing in playoffs, Super Bowl, Super Bowl champs.
Also for FA and otherwise you being able to say we are a playoff team has to go a long way.
So I'm playoffs all the way. :up:siciliansith, SICK and padre31 like this. -

i don't know what I want
i want to have a good season and playoff appearances, but i'd also like a super bowl ring (preferably within the next couple of years).
so it's tough..
I just wanna win dammit is that too much to ask? -

I don't believe that drafting depends as much on your draft spot as it does on scouting well. I do think you face a handicap if you draft in the top 10 b/c of the current salary structure, but after that I don't see a huge difference between drafting 15th and drafting 25th. I certainly wouldn't hop to miss the playoffs so I could move up a few picks.
