And i disagree about the playmaking ability from tanny. He has shown to be very good when making plays out of the pocket. the wide receivers(either drops or effort(wallace) and oline is holding back tanny the most.

 

Rex Ryan please. Agree with you completely that it's obvious that Philbin can't get the type of response he needs from the team. I thought they might lose today, I never thought they'd lose by two scores.

 

He did run for at least one first down.

And I refuse to pass judgement when he plays behind such abortions of olines.

 

Tannehill was getting killed for a good part of that game. I still think with decent protection and a real number one WR he can be a pretty productive QB.

 

And ridiculous that when he tries to climb in the pocket, because the tackles have failed, he can't do that because the interior has failed to...with four man rush.

However I'd love to see anyone saying "no more excuses" for Tannehill throw behind the oline that they put in front of him. I really really would.

I'd like to see anyone try and throw from behind this line while maintaining even slight consistency, really.

philbin lost the locker room, keep him around next season is a waste of a football season. this team will never make the playoffs under philbin. He will always find a way to lose the game.

I'm sorry, but you simply can not overlook the s**t bucket that is our Oline. Right now, it's almost as bad as it was at this point last season. You'd be really hard pressed to find a worse RT than Dallas Thomas, even if you searched other teams backups. WHen our Oline was protecting against really good defenses, our offense was scoring. They are awful right now. Losing Albert basically cost us the season. combine that with the disappearing act that is our pass rush. Tannehill was a factor in the loss today, but the real culprits are Oline followed by no pass rush. Even when we blitzed seven, we still couldn't hit Flacco. Putting it on Tannehill because he didn't run enough is silly.
- The coaching staff needs to go. I know Ross won't do it, but I'd fire Philbin and Coyle and let Lazor take over for 3 games. Trial under fire.

 

I agree about Philbin. He's a good guy but this is a high stakes business, he's proven that he can lead a talented team to 8 or 9 wins, thats who he is and thats it. Tannehill is more than likely going to have to be the Qb here for the next few years and we will have to sign him long term unless we somehow draft or pick up a great Qb. I do think we can win with Tannehill.

 

Ryan Tannehill isnt an improvisational quarterback. He's systematic, and he's highly productive when given time by his O Line. That doesn't mean we can't win with him. He's just not Dan Marino and without those type of skills that a Marino had, or Aaron Rodgers or Ben Roethlisberger have he (Tannehill) can't carry the team by himself. That doesn't mean we can't win with him.

 

If they haven't made the playoffs by year 2, start over. There's clearly an ample amount of talent on the roster already.

Some of the huge deals given to young QB's like Kaep and Dalton are really team friendly. I say you see if he grows next year and pull the trigger on a deal like that. Keep watching for guys to push him at the same time. Probably can't afford to pay the one year option deal after the year, so you have to work out some kind of extension or let him go after next year. I'd prefer the former, but it does hinge on how much more improvement he shows.

 

The Ravens won a Super Bowl with Flacco who isn't really that much better. Keeping a QB on his feet sometimes does amazing things. Rodgers and Roethlisberger are about the only QBs in the league who can find ways to overcome pass rushers flying into their faces 2 seconds after the snap.

 

I get the consistent argument, and I agree to an extent, but I do think Philbin has proven he's not the guy. Three years of mediocrity is enough for me. The problems are the Dave as they were three years ago. Yeah is flat in big situations, stupid mistakes, oline is trash.

 

Hire a known commodity and this team is a playoff team the first year. One thing about the NFL is you're never too far off from contender status.

 

That's why a guy like Rex Ryan actually makes sense, IMO. He can motivate existing talent.

 

He'll get the most out of what we've got. A good offseason and we may even be deep in the playoffs with him.

Add Wilson and I agree. I do think Tannehill has the athleticism to do the same. Maybe he's been held back a little bit?

 

He's really good at masking defensive deficiencies. If they were to move to a 3-4, they'd need a NT and maybe we'd get to see Jordan in a role that suits him.

 

Well how many more does Philbin deserve ? 1, 2 , 5 ? C'mon man, sometimes it doesn't take that long to realize you made a mistake. Cam Cameron lasted 1 year, did you think he should have been around for a 2nd ?

 

What do they say? Big players make big plays in big games. Was this a big game? Sure. Who made plays? Nobody I saw. For the other team, however, Elvis Dumervil showed up, Justin Forsett showed up, Steve Smith showed up, Terrell Suggs showed up, and Joe Flacco showed up. Those would be that team's leaders, who set the tone in important games and will the team to win. The Dolphins on the other hand have perhaps one player of that nature, Cameron Wake, and he did nothing of import today. The team is bereft of talent and leadership, and that's why it loses games like the one today, when teams across the league bring their best to the field.

Philbin esseintialy committed sabotage by leaving dallas thomas in. He knew we would lose with thomas and kept him in. Fire philbin. fire coyle, and let the new hc decide if lazor stays.

 

Is it a forgone conclusion that Philbin is gone? What if he ends up at 9-7 and convinces Ross that the reason they didn't make the playoffs is they are still trying to overcome the talent gap deficiency left by Ireland.

I don't think Philbin is a good coach but I don't think many coaches would win 11 games with our current roster.

Once Albert went down, our OL is atrocious. Our receiving core is overpaid and underwhelming. RTH can make some plays and can be efficient in a system with the right talent around him. I don't think he will ever be considered elite but he is far from our immediate needs. Although you could argue that if you don't have a franchise QB then that is always the #1 priority.

Our defense completely disappears when it matters. Fundamentally, they are bad at tackling. I think we need to start at LB and S.

 

People act like Flacco made plays out of nothing. His offensive line allowed him to make plays, unlike ours.

 

Earl Mitchell was a 3-4 NT in Houston before he came to Miami.

 

It's hard to say because one had a pass rushers closing in on him two seconds after every snap and the other generally had plenty of time. If you look at this season the two QBs look very similar. Flacco did throw that stupid red zone INT in the first half.

 

Ross can't possibly be that stupid. Can he?

 

Ryan Tannehill needs a superior running game to be successful at the level necessary in today's NFL. With a short field game manager type, along the lines of Alex Smith, a running back along the lines of Jamaal Charles is also needed, someone the offense can be featured around to a larger extent than is usual in the league. Notice when the game was 14-13 today, and Baltimore scored and went up 21-13 with over eight minutes left to play, the Dolphins abandoned their running game, emphasized the pass, put too much responsibility on its pass blockers, and played right into the hands of Baltimore's superior pass rushers (Dumervil and Suggs). Given Tannehill and the offensive line's abilities in the passing game, that should've been when a stud running game, with a stud running back, was emphasized. The Dolphins don't have that, however, and they don't have the sort of quarterback and passing game that can compensate for its absence.
