Okay, who are the best candidates to replace him?

Lynn could be an interesting choice too. Definitely an offensive minded coach.resnor likes this. -

Resignation...phew. It would have stunk if we fired him a few days after the media told him that he was fired. Good luck to him in his 2nd retirement!

Okay, I repeat my concerns about Flores not being able to settle on an OC and system. The offense will be set back by a month or so in 2021, as they learn to play in a new system. That means we lose a game the first month of the season that we could have won if everyone was comfortable and on the same page offensively.
Tua's development will be stunted a bit as he learns yet another offense. He should still take a leap, if he is going to be the player expected when he was drafted at #5, but he won't really know the offense inside and out until year two in it.
I don't mind Flores making a change after year one, but to change again in year two is a problem. Gailey was going to be short-term, but I expected 2-3 years when he unretired, not a one-and-done. So, chalk this up as a mistake by Flores and the first red flag for me regarding this coach.KeyFin likes this. -

Flores hired Gailey. Seems it was a bad decision, and minor props to Flores for understanding that, but major blame for making the wrong choice in the first place.
Maybe Gailey feels that Tua is NOT a franchise QB and Flores doesn't want to hear it? We'll find out in the next year or two what the story is on Tua. -

I get that we want to nail the right coaches off the bat, but you also have to realize that it's a process and you often have to take whatever's available at the moment. Taking a coaching job is like playing chess- the wrong move can destroy your career and prevent you from ever being HC material. I can see why folks wouldn't want to jump on-board with a 5-win team in full rebuild....a 10-win squad with an elite defense and loaded up with draft picks is a completely different story though.
In other words, people who wouldn't even consider Miami a year ago may have us as their #1 choice today.Phil Hutchings likes this. -

Evidently Flores didn't fire Gailey. Flores was caught by surprise when Gailey retired, as reported by Armando Salguro of the Miami Herald. Gailey had been hinting for months that he was uncomfortable with the strict Covid protocols.

I don't see this as a negative for Flores as some do. I think Gailey was really brought in to pair with Fitzpatrick. Miami didn't know at the time they'd end up with Tua. I think it was clear that Gailey and Tua weren't exactly a good match right from when we drafted Tua. Gailey was already here, we didn't know we'd end up with Tua. It is what it is I suppose. I believe it was likely always a one and done for Gailey here once we were able to draft Tua.
Now; if they certainly are considering sticking with Tua long term the slate is cleared on the offensive side of the ball to find a new OC that pairs with Tua & find some new skilled offensive players that fit the new system. -

LOL at the idea of Bill O'Brien coming here after giving us all his picks. I wonder how much contact he and Flores had with each other, could be a real possibility. I wouldn't be excited, but as long as he isn't a head coach or - jesus christ - a GM then I guess he would be alright.

Sometimes guys just aren't cut out for HC/GM duties, but are really good as coordinators or position coaches.Silverphin likes this. -
