I'm kinda with you on this one. I am not really sure how he fits on the roster, but I know he is a good player. Because he is such a late cut, he may not get paid what he is worth. If that is the case, he may be willing to do a one year deal. I would jump all over that.

On a side note, I would prioritize Harris over Decker. I still think that we are thin at LB (no real depth). I also fear that we (myself included) have been a little quick to anoint McMillan. It almost feels like, ready or not, he's about to be a major contributor.

Think about this if our starting LBs are Kiko, Timmons, and Misi, just think about what that says about the state of our LBs. Essentially, that means that we really only have 2 starting caliber LBs on our squad (if McMillan can't beat out Misi).

On the other hand, if McMillan can't beat out Misi, but our starting core is Kiko, Timmons, and Harris, I would be totally fine with that. If McMillan was regulated to a run-stopping specialist this year, it would not be nearly as detrimental under this scenario. With Misi and McMillan both as merely depth guys, I think that we would have a really deep unit.

Even if we sign Harris, and McMillan beats him out, I think that is a really good sign. If Harris was the first guy off the bench over Misi, that in itself is a good sign.

 

Guys, come on. We are so crazy deep at WR right now that we're talking about how our second round pick from last year is going to get onto the field, and you want to bring in a 30 year old guy from outside who only caught 9 balls last year due to injury? Even if we wanted to (and I'm guessing we don't), how do you sell that to Decker? If he's healthy, he's going to go somewhere that he can step into with a starting role to build up his chances of getting a good UFA contract next spring.

 

Rest assured the New England Patriots or Bills will make the call..

 

This is how I see it. Let's look at teams that probably need to get better at WR.

Winning teams that need WR help - Baltimore, Wash

Bad teams that need WR help - CHI, LA, SF, CLE, BUF

Obviously, Baltimore has shown interest in adding a WR (Maclin has a visit set up), and if he is offered a job in Buffalo, he should take it. Washington has not shown any real interest in adding a WR, and if they do, he should take that job.

If Baltimore winds up signing Maclin, look at Decker's other best options. I don't think that playing for any of those teams sounds that exciting to him.

Perhaps, playing for Gase is an option that he'd be willing to consider for a year. Additionally, I think that it is entirely likely that HE thinks he can beat out Parker. As fans we can piss and moan and argue about whether or not this is true, whether or not this would stunt Parker's growth, and anything else under the moon. But the fact of the matter remains, if he came into camp and was clearly better than Parker, I think most of us would be okay with him starting. If he can't beat out Parker, I still think he sees situational time on the field and would be a solid back up. Miami offers him a chance to win. I think we can offer him more than you think.

 

NE can afford to, they're good across the board. We can't afford to spend more money at receiver when we're lacking serious depth at other positions.

 

If the Dolphins are going to sign any of the players cut by the Jets, it should be Mangold or Harris.
Because the need at LB and center is far greater at this time than adding another WR who would be no better than the 4th or 5th WR on the team at this stage of his career.

I would love to see them sign Mangold simply because I just don't see Pouncey making it through the season without missing a number of games. Harris is better than any of the backup LB's now on the roster and he is certainly more durable than Misi.

The strength of the Dolphins at this time is at the WR position. So adding Decker would only be a waste of money, IMO.

 

No. With Landry, Stills, Parker, and Julius Thomas...That's a lot of receptions. Add another 30 or so to the RBs and Fasano. I want the other passes to go to Carroo, Scott, or the kid from Arkansas.

Now David Harris? Possibly. But not at WR.

A thousand times this! If we are going to pick up Jets cast off's, they only two guys we should be thinking about are Harris and Mangold.
I've always liked Decker, but the guy is hurt and plays a position we are very deep at. There is no value to him for us.
Harris still has a year or two in him and would easily replace the always injured Misi with ease. Heck, Misi is injured already.

And Mangold, well The only thing I KNOW with absolute certainty about this upcoming season is Pouncey WILL NOT make it all 16 games. He has not in years and it's only getting worse. Mangold would be a clear upgrade for us as a backup.

And or a Center who can play guard. And isn't it awesome to be going in to training camp feeling pretty good about the starters and depth and thinking maybe the backups need an upgrade on the OL, but other than that, feelin pretty good. First time since Shula was squeezed out for me.

Not as good as I feel about pretty much everything else. Just saying it feels like the G situation is the only really definable problem right now. Which is great because usually we have half a dozen big questions going in to camp.

And I think G may not be that big an issue either. More worried what happens when Pouncey goes down so having some good depth that can play both spots is a need for sure.

 

If I could sign this guy for moderately low $$, then trade Caroo for a 4th or 5th after featuring him in pre-season game #1, you bet your *** I'd do it. Draft picks are hard to come by. When you can pay money to 'buy an extra pick' you do it, imo.

Then get a 6th for him IF Decker came in and looked good. If Decker comes in and doesn't immediately click with the offense, then you just keep Caroo as insurance vs injries to our top three.

I don't know man, but anything that gets you an extra draft pick with not a lot of downside is worth it to me.

Downside would be if we needed Caroo and Decker wasn't a capable replacement due to injury or misfit w Tannehill or something.

 

The Broncos great WR Rod Smith spent his first season on the practice squad. People already giving up on Carroo or deeming the trade a disaster based on a rookie season are hysterically over reacting.

My opinion about Decker, or almost any WR avail is "pass". We are about to invest upwards of $10M per year in Jarvis. We just spent huge $$ on KS. We have a first rd WR that reports are indicating is finally playing like it. He's going to demand big bucks soon.

We need the rest our WRs to be on rookie deals. And even those guys Carroo, Scott, Morgan have talent.

 

Same, and thank you. If neither Carroo nor Grant pan out on offense, then we spend a later pick to replace them. Not more pricey veterans.

5. Miami Dolphins: Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker, Kenny Stills, Jakeem Grant, Leonte Carroo

Landry is an exceptional player (fourth in receptions since 2015), but Parker could be settling in as the best receiver in Miami. The former 14th overall pick has 1,189 yards and seven touchdowns over his last 21 games, with an excellent 9.22 yards/target. If that wasn't enough, they gave Stills a four-year, $32 million deal to stay in Miami after he had 17.3 yards/catch and nine touchdowns last season.

 

Well if everything being reported is true, I expect that Carroo is going to have a solid year this year and if anyone else makes the team it sure sounds like Morgan is going to be that guy. I just have my concerns over keeping 6 WO's on the team.

 

Maybe I've missed it, but I haven't heard news of Carroo impressing. I've heard about Landry, Parker and Morgan impressing in OTAs. And I've heard about Grant, Parker and Stills working hard in the off-season. But I haven't heard much about Carroo beyond higher expectations b/c it's his second year. Has there been news of him impressing that I missed?

 

I think he caught a TD in OTAs but I could be remembering incorrectly. It was also.. OTAs.
I think we'll get the full scope on how much Carroo has improved when he's playing with Matt Moore in the preseason.

 

Some have said they have seen a lot of improvement..he's also lost 10 lbs and says he's at his college weight... admittedly was not himself last year..just didn't have the proper focus, this year he says it's different

Totally agree. Carroo actually looked pretty good last year. He just had a hard time getting snaps behind the other guys. Landry Parker and Stills stayed on the field. The limited action I saw last year he was being used almost as a TE some plays. He didn't make many if any really dumb mistakes, looked like he did his job and he made a few plays so why replace him?
