This has the looks of Crabtree's agent's having leaked to the media the salary Miami offered to create a bidding war and drive up the price, and Miami's having countered by entertaining Greg Jennings and giving the illusion of having "moved on" to Crabtree's agent.

 

The report states the opposite. It says they are tight.

 

When I looked at Crabtree's 2014 tape I expected to see one thing and saw something else entirely. I didn't see a guy that was helping his team win very much. Couldn't run, couldn't separate. He had a plus catch radius, yet a tendency to drop the football. He had good run after catch but he wasn't going to break anything big that way and clearly wasn't fast. Everything was just within 5 yards and you'd better make sure the ball is on him.

I went back to Miami's tape to try and figure out how you incorporate that into Brian Hartline's position and I just was stumped. The only way you can incorporate that skill set is by having him play Landry's spot.

On the other hand I go Greg Jennings' 2014 tape and it's easy to see how he integrates into this offense. He can still run. He can separate. He's crafty. He has decent speed after the catch and can still make people miss every now and then.

There's the move that looks good on paper and then there's the move that looks good on tape and to me Jennings over Crabtree is the move that looks good on tape.

Fact that Philbin supposedly doesn't like Jennings does not surprise me given what I've heard about Jennings being a pain in the @ss off the field and in the locker room. It's a queasy thing. But Jennings cannot possibly be worse than Crabtree this way. And Philbin is locked in a closet somewhere this offseason anyway. They will get his opinion on players when they decide to ask him for it.

Dolphins looking at adding WR depth...will talk with both Crabtree and @GregJennings

 

Greg Jennings would be a very nice stopgap for a couple of years. Jennings-Stills-Landry-Cameron. I can definitely live with that lineup going into training camp. then we don't have to waste a day one pick on a WR.

 

Greg Jennings makes more sense than Crabtree or any other FA. He is a jack of all trades type WR who does everything well. Right now, that's what we need with Landry and Stills being more specialists (slot and deep threat).

I wouldn't say that a first rounder would be a waste, in any circumstance. Signing a vet would just mean that we don't need to depend on the rook in 2015 if we don't have to. I wan't a guy who can come in and get acclimated, and then be our #1 in 2016, personally.

 

Also, he will put the team on his back.

So Philbin doesn't like Jennings, that must mean he is about to sign with the Dolphins. If it were up to Philbin, the Dolphins would not have signed Suh because he doesn't meet his view of the good character players he wants on his mediocre teams.

Philbin certainly would not have traded for Stills who is reported to love to party and is still rather immature.

Fortunately we now have a head of football operations who is more concerned with how productive a player is on the field and doesn't care one bit if he litters the field with gum wrappers.

 

I think that's more of a luxury. we have bigger needs at CB, Oline and LB. Now if Cooper or White somehow drop to 14, then you can't pass them up. but there is good WR depth in this draft.

 

Much rather have him over Crabtree.

After learning more and more about how professional Suh is in person, I'm wondering whether that bolded part is true or not. Not saying I know the answer.. just that Suh is dirty on the field, but he seems to be a consummate professional.

As for the rest of the post, I agree it's good to see players being considered that aren't Philbin types.

 

I read the "according to a team source" to be clarifying that this is what the source themselves said. Not sure why you guys are blaming Armando for this one. The numbers might not read that way but it still might be what the source said. Oh wait, forgot that a lot of people here seem to have a grudge against him.

I'd take Jennings at the right price. It would let us focus on the other holes on this roster in the draft.

 

I want to see the formula that he used to come up with the percentage...

 

I think it goes something like this...


I don't know = 50/50.

Using percentages sounds more technical.

48% - 52% doesn't sound technical enough.

37% - 63% sounds too technical.

45% - 55% is just right.

I agree. Everytime I hear Suh speak all I can think is what a bright guy. I just hope he starts using that brain on the field more often. If he does...man...he may go down as the best D-lineman to ever play.

 

Armando should have written that in a way that more clearly explains the idea. Don't blame the source. Armando was not quoting the source explicitly, as you can tell by the lack of quotation marks. He was expressing the idea of what his source told him, and that gives him the freedom to put it in a way that makes sense to people. There's a better than 50 percent chance the team waits until after the draft to address the receiver position, according to his source. That's what he should have said.

 

I would rather have Crabtree. At least he is tall.

well we better get a vet wr because if we start out the gate slow this next season we will be sitting home again next December . if it was me I would sign Jennings and then draft a linebacker with our first pick and draft two olinemen in rds 4 and 5 and then spend our other picks on linebackers , linebackers and linebackers and get Zach Thomas to tutor them.

 

My idea is to draft Laell Collins at 14 then trade our 4th to move up to around 22 in the first and grab DGB use our 2nd on a linebacker

I would have gone with 50/50 + or - 5% standard deviation rate...All while putting on my sunglasses ala Bruce Campbell, flash my badge, walk away.

 

I think Jennings is the veteran presence we need at WR. Also don't think he's your typical diva WR. I say sign him to a 2-3 year incentive laden deal, and still look to the draft for a taller more physical redzone threat at WR. Then I think the position looks better than it has in a long time.

We dont have a third. If you're suggesting to trade our 4th and 2nd round pick to get to 22 - I don't think there is anyone in the league that takes the trade...plus we wouldn't pick again until the 5th round.

Gotta hope Stills works out since we essentially used our 3rd round draft pick to get him as WR.

IMO - our only choices this draft are sitting tight or trading back. At least - I sure hope we dont squander what few picks we have

 

The Charlotte Observer reports free agent Greg Jennings isn't signing with the Panthers.

Jennings posted on social media Tuesday afternoon that he's found a new home, but it's unclear where. Jennings has been most closely linked to the Panthers, but also drawn interest from the Jaguars and Dolphins. We should learn his new team some time in the next 24 hours.
