Just saw this video. Wow!

Among many others, look at the play at the 3:31 mark. Awesome. SPEEDY MOFO! Talk about some RAC. He smoked six defenders on the way to that TD.

I actually would like to select him with our 12th overall pick, BUT...
...everybody looks good in highlight videos :glare:Jcouch1021 likes this. -
It's fun right Sceeto, ive seen so much of tavon it's becoming a problem... check it out, this kid can be Lamar's compliment weve been looking for, as well as the explosive slot and speed x..there's not another kid that can do that..he's Lamike James with the ball in his hands and here we are trying to find a running back to help Lamar..fu&$ that, draft this kid and use all that pretty ***..
I think the highlight business is getting pretty cool, for the kids that are gonna get drafted im sure theres a good business angle there, that one was well done.cullenbigcstill and Sceeto like this. -

Edit: In regards to your reputation comment directed toward me, I'm not sure how you could interpret my initial post as confrontational, but I apologize if you took it that way. However, I think that people have the tendency to become enamored with highlights and sometimes it's worth pointing out really what they are. I'm not implying that is the case with you - I'm just saying while his observation may be obvious, I think it's fair.
Anyway, just my 2 cents. It's no biggie bro.

Would love Austin. Just not that high, personally.
But there is some possibility of it occurring. I thin it's more likely, however, he'll go around 25-35

I still want Austin or Patterson at 12. I want weapons that make us tough to defend.

I really like Tavon, I think he would be awesome in our offense, but as a receiver he can be shut down. You notice that return against K-State? That's all he did for that game.

So if its basically silly to get excited by highlight videos, then what are we allowed to see to get us excited about a potential pick? Their measurables? Just their name? Crystal ball?
I mean if actual footage of what a player is capable of, is now not representative of a players ability, how are we supposed to pick players to be excited about? Should we just wait until someone's drafted and give them 3 years before we're allowed, in your book, to be excited about a player's potential?
And ftr, if we had to choose between Austin and Bailey, I'd choose Bailey (but I'm sure that's crazy since I've only watched video on them) so I'm not one of the hardcore Austin supporters. -

Don't want to burst any bubbles, but Ireland is not gonna draft Austin at 12...he'll go D, likely Xavier Rhodes at #12...that's in his DNA...book it now, he'll take the CB....
Don't get me wrong, everything in my heart and minds says go with Austin...but I don't think he does it...His rationale isn't exactly wrong, because he'll say we have a good group of WRs, we don't need another slot guy who can make plays, Miller will be that kind of player for us now that he's gonna be on the field more, etc...I think he'll talk himself out of taking a player like Austin and go where the bigger need is, at CB...but we can all dream.... -

Omar Kelly keeps saying Austin is not in Ireland's profile of size, yet Ireland wanted Harvin? And shouldn't the old profile of size be somewhat modified for Philbin by now?

Can you imagine taking both Austin and Stedman Bailey -
Since he's been here, he's drafted in the 1st round:
- OT
- CB
- DT
- C
- QB
In 5 drafts he's drafted 3 offense and 2 defense. They've traded down once. Tannehill wasn't drafted to start that year. There were only 2 widely considered safe picks.
There are no tendencies, no patterns, no "instinct" for you to pull from.
If you think he'll pick X instead of Y, that's fine and great, but at least recognize its purely imagination on your part. -

He's certainly made some changes for Philbin and this team...Will he at #12....I just don't know...I still think he reverts somewhat and goes Defense...where he's more comfortable...
EDIT: Actually I'm just preparing myself for the real possibility that he won't want to take Austin at #12, so that I'm not too disappointed when goes D... -

If you were stating your opinion on how we'll draft based on the holes you believe we have, then fine have it, we might have differing opinions on that but who cares...as you said its a site of opinions.
My problem is when you (or anyone) starts saying others are wrong based on made up info....like pretending there's some tendency in Ireland's history of first picks to dictate what he'll do this draft. -

Just to tally things, Miami has:
1. Watched Tavon Austin in at least 3 separate games this year that Jeff Ireland reportedly attended.
2. Sent three of their top scouts to WVU's pro day to watch him work out.
3. Have scheduled him for a private work out in Miami.
You have a head coach that was part of the scouting process that brought Randall Cobb to Green Bay. You have a GM that not only has shown an affinity for this style of player in the past, but he was going to draft Percy Harvin in 2009 had he been available. What many probably don't know is that Jeff Ireland also really liked Dexter McCluster in the 2010 draft but didn't have a chance to get him. The Dolphins had him in the Senior Bowl and was really impressed with his ability and work ethic.
Drafting Tavon Austin likely improves the overall talent, speed, and explosiveness of the wide receiving corps on the team, which is something the organization has identified that they want to do. He also improves the team's punt return and kick off return ability if they so choose. It allows them to move Davone Bess during the draft for something of value, perhaps a 4th or 5th round pick.
Speed, explosiveness, the ability to make plays with the ball in his hands, scoring touchdowns.......the kid has everything the Dolphins are looking for in the receiver position and offensive play makers this offseason. -
I sometimes wish they did though. I'd kind of like it if he was more predictable, because then he could occasionally go against that predictability once and while for a special player. For example, if he had a consistent history of going D or O line in the 1st, then teams who want Tavon might not feel like they need to jump ahead of us. -
I am intrigued, but to me it would seem a better compliment to draft Patterson. We'd have a little bit of everything at WR then, speed, size, sure hands, quick underneath, attacking the seam.
