A starting RB that had the stats that Miller had (even if it was partially due to Lazor's system) is worth more than a 3rd round pick this time of year.

Not interested in trading Miller. Ayaji/Miller is a compelling tag team. Ayaji solo is not so interesting.

 

1) We need depth at RB (for example look at last year whem Miller replaced Moreno, compared to the year Rick Williams retired and we we had street FAs trying to pad up)
2) Lamar Miller is the only proven NFL caliber back on our roster.
3) All the people behind Lamar Miller have serious question marks
4) There are no FAs available that you could rely on to be a regular starter (if there were Dallas would have signed them already)
5) We have no need to replace Lamar Miller. He isn't disruptive, he isn"t a known suspension risk, he knows the system and plays with it.

Trading away Lamar Miller is what I would do if I wanted to guarantee an 8-8 season or worse.

If the offer was made before the draft, I'd listen seriously and draft accordingly. Doing a deal now is all downside for the phins and all upside for Dallas. So unless Dallas offer something stupid (eg next years 1st 2nd and 4th) I'm not listening

 

Dallas is likely going to be picking low next draft... I would maybe pull the trigger on a second rounder, anything below that, no thanks.

Tough one to believe but if there is any ring of truth then maybe we can speculate a little further.

Dallas has a glut at OL and we need one.With Miller gone we may add Moreno or if you want to get really wild why not Adrian Peterson .

 

Peterson would cost a fortune, and I mean first and foremost the "high draft pick" Minnesota has said they want for Peterson. Problem with trading Miller is we really don't have a replacement. Like you said, this is tough to believe.

 

According to spotrac.com, the Dolphins have $8.2 million in cap space after signing their draft class. That leaves enough room to add another guard which is the logical thing to do but with Tanneballs running the show anything is possible .He likes to make big splashes and imagine the splash he would make if he signed both Suh and Petersen in the same year.:theman:

I'm not even talking about trading Miller unless the offer is huge, and that's not going to happen. He's good, he's young, he's healthy, he knows our system and fits it, and he's spent his life in South Florida! What more do you want? You certainly aren't picking up someone else more talented.

Let the 2015 season play out. If Ajayi is awesome + healthy AND Miller can't agree to a reasonable contract, then let him walk. I'm not torpedoing our season for a 3rd rounder next April though. Miller isn't a spare part we can afford to move at a position of depth.

Not biting on this one. If I'm wrong so be it but I cannot see us doing this at this time. I'd like to think that Ajayi will prove equal at the minimum to Daniel Thomas' production. Should we get more than that, then we let Miller walk and bring in someone new next year. But going into Ajayi as the primary is just plain suicide IMHO.

I like LB's suggestion of Moreno but hes never proven he can stay healthy as a full time back and Im not relying on Ajayi or any other mid round rookie to carry a bulk of the load in a year when I expect to be a playoff team.

 

Agreed; Don't trade talent just because. We home grew Miller, literally, please don't trade him for nothing so he can be successful somewhere else.

I wouldn't trade Miller at this point. We're not getting a first round pick for him anyway. A 2nd round pick? Maybe... And really, I expect Dallas to be picking towards the bottom of round 2, so we're likely not getting a top 40 player in return. We're not getting enough value for a 1100 runner, IMO. Nor do we have the depth to make such a move. If Philbin was retained for continuity purposes, getting rid of our starting RB doesn't make sense.

I'm very interested in seeing what he can do at his new playing weight, 225. Adding some bulk may give him a little more power running on the inside and make him a far more balanced and dangerous runner. And he's still young enough that he's worth a 2nd contract, assuming he plays up to par.

 

From what I hear out of Dallas, they will be looking hard at McFadden first through camps before they decide to make a trade. They essentially got 3 first round picks in the draft this year (according to their board) so they are open to trades now. However, McFadden is the first option. They won't be offering unless he looks like crap.

The target I have heard mentioned a few times is Matt Forte.

 

One thing to keep in mind, this influx of new running backs from the loaded 2015 draft might drive Miller's price tag down. Could potentially make for an ideal year to extend him rather than trade him away.

 

Shady McCoy is 28 with a lot of miles on him, due a boatload of cash, was complaining about Chip Kelly's practices and Chip Kelly is a mad scientist. Plus the Eagles have a history of trading players due a lot of money....they are the anti Cowboys (who seem to like to pay players a lot of money).

No we're not trading Miller. Not unless they're offering at least a 1st. You're talking about a guy who had 1100 yds on 5.1 ypc on a team that (still) has issues at guard.

That is why they are called rumors. Most of the time there is nothing to the rumor and I think that is probably the case this time.

Dallas went out and signed Darren McFadden to be the replacement for Murray. They have several other RB's on their roster at this time and instead of giving up a draft pick for Miller, they could just sign Moreno to a contract and if he is healthy, he would be a monster behind their offensive line.

I don't see Miller going anywhere this season. Whether they will have the cap money to sign him after the season might be a question, but RB's like Miller really aren't too difficult to replace. In fact I expect Ajayi to become the teams starting RB over the next few years if his knee holds up.

Theres no reason to dump Miller. I don't see Dallas giving up much of anything for him. I think everyone is thinking Dallas is after all the RBs out there and I don't think they are. I think they believe that anyone halfway decent can run behind that line and I tend to agree with them. They will be fine running the ball without trading picks. I could see them going for a home run in next years draft but honestly this is kind of a make or break year for the team so I don't see them giving away assets when they could be blowing the team up in a year or two.
