What do you think the chances of packaging our picks and moving up or down ? Is there someone that makes you want to go up to grab him in the top 7 or so ?
How likely are the chances we package picks to trade up or down ?

It would have to be a special player.I'm no draft guru but who would even be a potential pick to give up so much?
-
I voted 50/50 because of our history. We've done it with Odrick, so I think Ireland could have an eye on a splashy type of top 7 or 8 pick.
(yes I know Odrick was down but this time Ireland could be going up) -
I don't think there are any running backs worth moving up for...

There are good players to be had in this draft even if there arent the highligh names like last year. I could see a trade down though I wouldnt call it likely since we already have more picks then anyone right now so Im putting this at 25%
-
I put 25% because you never say never. But IMO a move up like that is for teams that are looking for that final piece to a puzzle for the playoffs or SB and not a team like Miami that needs talent at the starter positions and for depth. keep the picks you have and gather talent or make some trades down to gather more picks.
P.S. I thought this was moving up only.....yes their is a greater chance of moving down then up. -
ah... the headline to the thread says only about moving up... the poll says moving up or down... I'll change the header to the thread. I voted no freaking way would we move up. There is always a chance we'd move down.

I think there is going to be a trade down and then a trade up. Giving Miami two picks in the lower 20s.

Hard to say without seeing what happens in FA.

I was thinking in terms of moving up in the first and second rounds of the draft. With all the extra picks, moving up to get a player (especially one who slips toward the end of the first round/early second) seems probable.
I would be less thrilled with a trade down to get two "solid" players, we need an impact player in the first. A dynamic DE to pair with Wake would instantly make the secondary THAT much better, even if we kept all the same guys. Gettting a WR means letting the guy develop for a year, but a DE can make an impact right away.thisperishedmin likes this. -
all depends on who floats to the surface by draft time. I'd be willing to trade up for a premier DE or CB. but if I were to place money, I'd say we stand pat and take BPA.

I think when it comes down to it, trading up or down, getting more picks or giving up picks, it ultimately is decided by how many rookie contracts you need on your roster. If Miami gives away some big contracts in FA, then they're more likely to trade down and acquire more picks, because they need cheap players to offset the FAs they signed. Conversely, if they aren't giving out big FA contracts, then they can trade up because they presumably have more flexibility in terms of adding FAs in the future.

If Parcells were still here we would be looking to flip one of those 2nd rounders for a 6th and a couple of 7th rounders.

I kind of hope we stay still with those first 5 picks. Just cause we could really use the infusion of skill position picks.
-
I think it's more likely down than up, especially if they see good value in the receivers or have their eyes on someone like Tyler Eifert. Don't know if I see them going BPA unless a Star Lotulelei or someone of similar value drops to our position.
-
Actually I could see us dropping down in the 4th...........just to pick up that 6th rounder we lost cause Vontae couldn't stay on the field ;p

I don't see a trade up in the 1st round, but a trade down is possible depending on who is available - if there's one of the top players available I hope we just pick him and don't trade down just for the sake of an extra lower pick or two...we need top players from this draft, not extra bodies.
In the lower rounds, I could see a trade up if it was for the right player, a bit like the move last year to grab Miller. -
I've seen some value boards though that have both Te'o and Star in the top 4. So the odds of either getting to us is probably a pipe dream. -
I misread it due to the we packaging term but I would agree to let another team present us an attractive package for them to move up. No way I would like us to package picks for us to move up. I just don't think that can't miss player is there for it to be worthwhile for us to give up that advantage of having so many picks.

Trade down seems a fair possibility as Miami may come to consider themselves to be picking beyond the cliff as far as the top talent in the Draft is concerned. Seems like someone is always saying this every year but this year it seems true to me, not much difference between picking #12 or #22.

Depends on how confident you are in what you've built. If you really believe in what you've built and your process then you don't change it to save your job, you plow through it with the faith that you'll be proven right.
In that way if Jeff Ireland changes course and starts looking to move up for impact then I think that would be telling.mbsinmisc likes this. -
To me the talent at the top of the draft isn't at "need" positions but then you hit a wall of not much difference. If the right guy falls to entice someone else I could see us moving back.

I see this as a draft where you could hit some of your need areas with numbers. I think there's a fat neck and trunk at the receiver position though the top of it is cloudy. I think this would be a great draft to hit your defensive end, linebacker and safety positions with some numbers.
There are a lot of folk that like the OLs in this Draft...though I haven't spent much time reviewing them.
WR: Stedman Bailey, Keenan Allen, Cordarrelle Patterson, Terrance Williams, Quinton Patton, Tavon Austin, DeAndre Hopkins, Robert Woods, Justin Hunter, Marquess Wilson and Markus Wheaton.
LB: Manti Te'o, Arthur Brown, Khaseem Greene, Kevin Minter, Sean Porter, Chase Thomas, Alec Ogletree, Jake Knott
S: Matt Elam, Phillip Thomas, Kenny Vaccaro, Eric Reid, Tony Jefferson, D.J. Swearinger, Baccari Rambo, T.J. McDonald, Shamarko Thomas
Seems to me like those groups of top players at their position are going to produce a good number of NFL players.mbsinmisc likes this. -
We need to sign 1 PREMIER YOUNG wideout this offseason and Draft a True #1 in the first round by moving up. We need at least one Free agent Offensive lineman, and safety and or corner. We can than draft for the other needs. -
I can guarantee there's a zero percent chance we package picks to move down.
A move up could be seen as likely. I'll say 80% chance at least one of our first 5 picks is moved one way or another. I don't see an elite prospect worth moving up for in the 1st. Definitely not on offense anyway. Plenty of DEs and DBs to be had. So it appears to me, ( at first glance ) ....the first round trade up equates to sacrificing a crucial selection at a position of need, all for a slightly better Player ( DE/CB ) than you could get at #12.
You've got to think we should do what it takes to get our primary targets in the 2nd, 3rd, and so on. We need to hit a home run in the 2nd or 3rd, Or atleast find multiple keepers, for once.
