Big signings. Solid re-signings.
Getting Wallace has me all....
How about y'all? What's your temperature today?

I'm not terribly excited about Wallace to be honest. I do like swapping out the linebackers for younger guys, however.

Feel good about Wallace. Not sure if we didn't overpay for Ellerbie, but hell, it's not MY money, as long as it doesn't land us in cap hell.
-
I like the new LBs. I like Ellerbe/Wheeler better than Dansby/Burnett. Better at blitzing, coverage.
I like Wallace as a deep threat split end. Honestly, I'd have rather seen a more versatile WR (Jennings) signed, but, Wallace is faster and younger. He was the top guy available, what can you say? You do have to wonder how limited he is, though. We'll have to wait and see how he and Tannehill will mesh. Could be great... could be a big mistake.
I think Ireland has spent a lot of money, and has taken a bit of a risk. I'm not a big fan of building through free agency. I think Tannehill is a star in the making. Which means... when it comes time to negotiate his second contract, the Phins might not be able to afford these big contracts without a Ravens-esque roster purge.
I think Ireland needs a TE. A game changer.
I think Ireland still has to nail it in the draft. He's not out of the woods yet, and the Phins aren't quite at the level they need to be to successfully compete for the playoffs.
But, not bad. Not bad at all.Bpk likes this. -
Wallace signing: I am pessimistically optimistic (sarcasm)
The LB swaps: We haven't been able to cover TEs for years and outside of Wake we struggled to get to the QB consistently ... these two guys can only make us better in that regard
Resigning Clemons: Could mean we will have to deal with another season of "meh" from his position. Kind of hoping we sign or draft someone to challenge him
Losing Big Jake and Fasano: I think the writing was on the wall for Jake so I didn't take it as a big blow. I would have liked to keep Fasano ... but there is still time to fill his spot.
Losing Reggie Bush: Didn't think he would be back and not really a good fit for Sherman's offense. I will miss him but won't lament their decision to let him gooakelmpine and Bpk like this. -

And I agree that even if they shore up TE, OL and CB in FA, he still needs to nail the draft to set things up for the next few years...
You're right...not bad so far... -
Cautiously optimistic. Not thinking budget right now, but what parts we have. What can those parts do for the overall performance of the team?
-
Get me a solid corner and/or a seam threatening TE and I'll be giddy.
-
got a chubby so far..lets see what the rest of F/A and the draft does.

I really like we got a one dimensional elite difference maker that our QB took out to dinner right away ;)

how am I feeling?
How about "there is no way..no way..we go into a season without a Te who can play, with our Oline.."
That is how I'm feeling..waiting for Keller news tbh.oakelmpine and Bpk like this. -

What, okay Scoobey..you know that blood soaked ghost you saw can you go in and find them?
No no no no
Would you do it for a Scoobey snack?
Yeah yeah yeah..
I guess in the NFL the Scoobey snack is Cash?

IMO Wallace provides some benefits and has some question marks. We also paid a lot for him. We became faster at LB and better at pressuring the QB, but we lost some coverage ability. We still need a TE that can threaten the seam and provide a big target. We should also add some mid-level CBs and a RT (if Long leaves).

Ireland has to draft well, anyone can overpay for free agents. I like who we've picked up, I think we paid too much for Wallace but we did need a guy that can go deep, if he can step his game up he might be worth it. Heck if we make the playoffs its all good. I just don't know if I can remember a team going on a spending spree and actually winning anything since modern salary cap free agency started. The guys we picked up are in their prime though so the pickups were good. I don't know, I'm cautiously hoping we make some noise this year, we've been the Patriots ***** for way too long, its time to win the division.

Cautiously hopeful. People (including me) were excited about getting Marshall & Dansby also...
There aren't any on here I dont think, but the fans pre-ordering their "AFC East Champs" gear need to chill. But I guess that always happens when any team makes a lot of moves.
Draft is more important. We haven't had a good draft since the 90s. Which is partly why we have been mostly absent from the Playoffs.oakelmpine likes this. -
I'm excited about the signings. Mike Wallace had to be the guy we signed (if any) at WR, IMO. I really never thought it would happen. While I'm not going to make proclamations about his future here in Miami, I feel really confident about him. He's a dynamic player. He's going to change how we attack defenses and how they prepare for us.
Certainly, Philbin had to sign off on that decision given the amount of money in the contract. So I'm feeling awesome about it. Also surprised we gutted the LB core the way we did, but I like the two guys we replaced them with.
I'm still a little nervous about some other positions like tackle and CB. Hopefully we can put the stamp on those soon enough. Head into the draft with as little needs as possible, and pick up a young squad of talent. Certainly, with the amount of picks we have, and where we're picking, the draft could shape up to be unpredictable and exciting. -

I'm just glad its not the same ol same ol........
there is a method to the madness..............THIS time.
I think they are getting rid of some, and replacing them, PARTLY to change the culture on this team.
We have a coach that is willing to go out and get what he needs to be successful. He had to play the hand he was dealt, last year, but not anymore. We got a whole new shuffle and a new start.
No more excuses..........................in theory. -
I'm happy. We have holes to fill, but assuming we do so adequately I'm looking at the rest of the division and having a hard time not thinking playoffs.

I will feel better when I see the Dolphins upgrade their offensive line and their secondary.
Right now I think the only solid starters on the OL are Incognito and Pouncey. Martin is still a question mark after a very up and down 2012 season. Jerry is a below average RG and if Long signs with the Rams as expected, this creates a major hole on the offensive line.
I am not a big Smith fan and I would rather the Dolphins would have traded Smith and kept Davis. This unit needs a severe upgrade if the Dolphins expect to contend for a playoff spot. Jones is by far the best player in the secondary and every other secondary player now on the roster is very average at best.
Hopefully the Dolphins and Ireland will upgrade the OL and the secondary, as well as the TE position, in free agency and in the draft.
The signings of Wallace, Ellerbe, and Wheeler are a good start, but the Dolphins still need to add a lot more talented players before they can be considered a legitimate playoff contender. Hopefully those players will be added over the next two months. -
Also TE worries me a great deal. Will Ireland force Egnew on us to try and prove a point and it turns into a disaster.jw3102 likes this. -
Too early to tell, still some holes to fill, I'm hoping keller @ TE is one of them. It's gunna be a huge draft this year, quite a few need to hit.
I'm optimistic moving forward. If we solidify our offensive line and pick up that TE to go with possibly a WR via draft, we will be dangerous for sure. Also we had such a dominant defensive front last year and its only improving. I really hope we put a lot of effort/talent into the DE slot (with a trade pref.).
For all of those saying we grossly overpaid for Wallace... I really don't think its that bad... There is a difference between 'overpaying' and 'paying a lot', and thats value. We did pay alot, but For someone with TD production that can only be compared to megatron, its expected. His old team at the time ( who knows him more than me, you, and the phins ) Offered him 10 mil. we are giving him 12. That seems like a given FA markup for the top rated FA, really. His 'One dimension' is one of the most sought after 'dimensions' in todays nfl, and what we severely lacked probably moreso than any other team. Unless he absolutely blows it I grade the signing a B+ easy, I personally don't see that happening.
