No, I'm a fan of his but I have no idea where the top 10 hype came from. Poor measurables and some very contradictory game tape.

The drop off in DT talent isn't a huge gap either. Someone like sylvester williams from UNC who struggles against the run because of strength and technique issues would benefit greatly from a year in an NFL lockeroom and could be picked up way later.

I kind of agree with you, chillin. There are things to like about him for sure... he's very strong and can win early, he can use his hands to beat OTs (like he did against Joeckel this year) but he really doesn't have good closing speed after getting into the backfield and seems to go pretty hot and cold. He also was pretty ordinary for most of the Louisville game.
There's a lot to like there, but he's far from a perfect prospect. -
If you're looking for a productive DT from a big conference that can be had significantly later in the draft, I really like Joe Vellano from Maryland. Guy was a second-team All-American in 2011 as a 4-3 UT, then Maryland switched to a one-gap 3-4 last year and he puts up even better pressure numbers (but fewer tackles) as a 3-4 DE. Over the course of three years, the guy put up better numbers than Williams year after year in the same conference yet is considered a UDFA type by many. One of my favorite underrated prospects in the draft.ToddPhin likes this.
