Somebody I trust, told me with a great deal of certainty that the Dolphins were rather close to consummating a trade for a Wide Receiver during the early parts of training camp.
I am told that the Dolphins initiated the talks for both players.
The two players?
Jeremy Maclin (Philadelphia Eagles)
Nate Washington (Tennessee Titans)
My source tells me that the Maclin trade went nowhere, but that the Washington trade was really close, but the final price exceeded what the Dolphins were willing to part with.
The compensation part is what my source is not clear on, but he doesn't think that Vontae Davis was offered in either deal and that it was likely a pick or two that was discussed. The pick is not clear.

Wow, maybe those will pick back up with the multiple picks we have sense accumilated?
-
Both nice players. Washington getting a bit up there in years, but that's why he might be available whereas Maclin would not be.
-
appreciate the info... and I know you have your sources, but I find it hard to believe. Since, we didn't end up acquiring a wr early in training camp. You'd have thought that since these two options were closed, Ireland, having made up his mind that we needed help, would have continued to search and eventually trade for a wide receiver or two during that early part of camp. In other words, he wouldn't have shelved the notion as certainly the wr's group during camp has been nothing to write home about.

Maclin would cost at least a 1st round pick IMO. Not sure about Washington though. I'd offer up to a third round pick but no more.

Getting nowhere on Maclin is not a surprise. Getting nowhere on Washington is a surprise. One would think that Nate Washington could be had.
-
i'm glad the washington trade didn't work out, so i guess the hard knocks crew got told to STFU
-
I'd give up a 2nd + another pick for Maclin, but Philly probably demanded a 1st. Too bad.
-
Who would you rather be able to get if they could, Maclin or Harvin?
-
"Hi Rus... so, yeah, I was just thinking, Nate Washington would look good in aqua and orange. Yeah wife's fine, So look, how about a fifth?........ Hello?....... Russ?.......
Hangs up and scracthes head.
"Huh, that's a surprise. It worked when Indy did it." -

this news is better than thinking we are doing nothing to address the problem. i would be pissed if ireland didnt atleast offer a 2nd for maclin. i wondering what the asking price for washington was. a 3rd is as far as i would be willing to give.

Ireland "So I would like Maclin, how about a 4th and a conditional 6th?"
Eagles GM "Uhm the last #1 WR you traded for you gave up two 2's?"
Ireland "Doh" -
Trai the Mai Tais!Pandarilla, Alex13 and ToddPhin like this. -
And by "shopped" they mean that they looked in a local grocery store for somewho looks fast and can maybe run routes.

IMO..a 3rd would have been top dollar. A #2 would have been desperate.
Are we desperate? -
I hear Kenny Britt was cut.
You don't take chances on bad personalities unless the talent is big and the payment is small.
For Chad Johnson only 1 of those 2 requirements fit.
For Kenny Britt they both fit. -

No way Philbin would be cool with a wr like him but i would -
EDIT: NEVER MIND. Bad information. Britt has NOT been released. I would be all over him if he was though.
-
Dang. Got really excited there. Oh well.
-
That's what sh-- never mind...

Thank God Miami didn't give up a 1st for Maclin, because it is going to be a Top 5 pick......actually Philly looks stupid for not doing it to be honest....
You have to yourself from Phillys POV....is Maclin worth a Top 5 or at the worst Top 10 pick and a 2nd rounder?
I do..... -
