Kurt Coleman in the 2nd would be awesome.

Not hard to tell what part of the Country you follow
Gresham in the first would be nice, but would prefer Dez or A-BennBig Red and ToddsPhins like this. -
If I were the GM:
1. call up the Broncos about Tony Scheffler this offseason, to me he is a good replacement for David Martin, or try to resign DMart, but Scheffler is a younger player.
2. Look at Antonio Bryant down in Tampa, he was a Cowboy during the Tuna Era, he is having knee issues right now though.
Who I'd like:
Jerry Hughes Rd #1 JT is 35, JP 33, Roth is a RFA.
CJ Spiller Rd #1...doubt he will be available when we select.
Brandon Graham MO rd #2 or a late #1 pick
Dennis Pitta..rd #3 or #2 depending, lots of experience catching the ball.
Correy Wooten Rd #2 interesting player.
Later rounds:
Sean Lee ILB coming off of an ACL
John Fletcher DE Wyoming
Trindon Holiday WR
It is still far to early though, but I do think Scheffler or DMart should be on the radar as our Offense is somewhat paralyzed without a Te who can split the seam and catch the ball.
And I think a real wildcard pick could be a Guard, Thomas and Smiley have been hot and cold this year, Thomas is a youngster but still, Sparano is such an Oline afficionado that he may simply blow it up, and see who is out there in the draft.
As for drafting a Safety...not seeing it, Bell and Wilson just signed big money contracts and Clemons playing as a rooke bespeaks how much Sparano and Bowles like him.Big Red and ToddsPhins like this. -
That's POOR safety play.azfinfanmang likes this. -
Thanks for the run down on Jones though.
I will keep that in mind next time I watch him play :hi5:Boomer likes this. -
Yeah, Chad Jones looked lost at times during that Alabama game. Boom, what do you think of Peterson from LSU?

You mean Brandon Graham from Michigan right? I'm watching the Purdue game now. He looks good. From what I've read he won't make it to the 2nd round. I like Pitta too. However I'm not sure he's worth one of our draft picks this year. Would he be an upgrade over Haynos? Not a fan of Wooten but haven't seen much of him this season. How did he look against Iowa?
I'm not familiar with Fletcher. Looks like he's got nice size. I'll try and check him out. Trindon Holiday is great but he doesn't fit the Parcells/Ireland bigger is better mold. Sean Lee in the later rounds? Hmmm...
Love Yeremiah Bell but Gibril Wilson has been a disappointment. Nobody is going to confuse Wilson with Ed Reed anytime soon. If we can get a safety with that potential then I don't doubt we would do it and cut our losses with Wilson. -
Now THAT is an impact defensive play.
Pitta, to me, fits that pass catching Te mold we need.
And if anyone, Bell has not shown that all around game as of yet, could be he is learning the D out on the field, and maybe he has new coverage duties.
The one thing I am not wrapping my head around is "where" are the positions (outside of Wr) where we have glaring and obvious needs?
Even OLB, Wake and Roth, Cb we are stacked, Dline, Oline, Qb.
to me NT, Te and Wr are the big holes, unless we do not resign Ronnie Brown..which I am beginning to wonder about the truth be told.Big Red likes this. -
I live over on the West Coast now so I do like a lot of players from:
USC - Mays, Griffen, McCoy, and Williams
Oregon - Dickson, Ward, and Blount
Cal - Best, Thompson, and Alualu
BYU - Pitta, Hall, and Unga
However I'm not sure we'll have a shot at Mays. I prefer Hughes to Griffen, Gresham to McCoy, and LaFell to Williams. Dickson and Blount are on my list and I haven't seen enough of Ward. Best and Thompson aren't needs and I prefer Smith to Alualu. I already commented on Pitta, Hall isn't a need, and I actually forgot about Unga. I'm going to add him to the list. However he is a junior and I'm not sure how likely he is to declare.
UCLA and Hawaii don't have much to offer this year. Arizona is a young team. Other teams have great players but we don't have a need. Just the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Too funny. -
We can't have a pass rusher as a 1st round possibility and not have Derrick Morgan on the list, who IMO is as much of a defensive impact player as McCoy and Berry. Gotta put Ricky Sapp and JPP on that list, too, until they show us otherwise.
Cant have Spikes w/o listing McClain, who IMO is more what our defense needs.
Very badly want Dennis Pitta if we cant get Gresham or a TE in FA. Something about smart, pass catching TE's who know how to get open seem to really excel in the NFL.
Even though we have Vontae and Sean, I would love to have Javier Arenas on this team.... would absolutely love it!! This is the kind of kid who will only make us better. If he lasts until the 3rd, I'd take him with an enormous...... grin.
I'm not looking for a Safety yet until our young secondary has a chance to develop and gel.... but I do like a lot: DeAndre McDaniel (my Tigers), TJ Ward (Ducks).
For offensive playmakers: just spitballing.... Eric Decker (Minn), Demaryius Thomas (GTech), Andre Roberts (Citadel), Jacoby Ford (Clemson), Noel Devine (WVU), Brandon James (UF), Taylor Price (Ohio), Brandon Banks (Kansas St), Jeremy Williams (Tulane), Carlton Mitchell if declares(USF), Frantrell Forrest (UAB), Riley Cooper (UF), Jordan Shippley, Emmanual Sanders (SMU), TJ Williams (Valdosta St), Chris Carter (UC Davis), Ronald Johnson (USC), Antonio Brown (Cent Mich).
There are a also a handful of big unrecognized DTs out there, too.
There's a big DT for UNC not named Austin who could make for a nice clogger. -
I wouldn't be surprised if we double up on the ILB position in next year's draft. Go for our playmaker in the 1st or 2nd round and take a flyer on another thumper in the later rounds.
We have needs at OLB too. JT might retire after this season. I'm not sold on Roth. That leaves Wake, Porter, and Anderson. A guy like Hughes or Edds would be huge for us.
I agree that we are stacked at QB and DE. However you can always use depth on your o-line.
Actually nose tackle is not that big a hole if we extend Ferguson and Soliai pans out. However there are a ton of talented big men coming out this year. I would be surprised if we passed up all of them.
Personally I see a pass-catching TE as a luxury. The cherry on top after the rest of your team is already built. You can always use a wideout, running back, or fullback the way you would use that tight end.
And of course wideout is another big need for us. We only need one. Just a really really good one.padre31 likes this. -
I wouldn't mind seeing
1. Rolando McClain
2. Eric Decker (if he can show that he's healthy)
3. Javier Arenas (Nickle, KR, PR, tough as nails supreme football player with major IT factor.)
4. Dennis Pitta (even if we need to trade picks to get him)
5. Playmaking WR: Taylor Price/Andre RobertsBig Red likes this. -
I also feel we need 2 WR, not just 1.
1 is a big, physical, reliable, effective, go-to target that Henne can depend on. Decker, LaFell, Riley Cooper??, Jeremy Williams (Tulane), Frantrell Forrest UAB???
2nd is an upgrade over Bess with more speed and explosiveness (Mardy Gilyard, Taylor Price, Andre Roberts, Shippley).
(We already have our possession WR's in Cam and Hart).ssmiami likes this. -
Sean Lee- he looked good in the limited time that I've seen him. Not the biggest guy in the world, but a great tackler and looks like he could cover TE's pretty well, something that we could use for sure. Maybe a thumper at MLB paired with a guy like Lee would work well. Then again, maybe we take Spikes or McLain, who knows. If as rumored Lee is better than Pozlunski I'd roll with that 2nd or 3rd round.
This WR out of Syracuse, Williams. I'm curious to see where he goes in the draft. He's got the production and measurables, but the fact of the matter is that I haven't seen him play. I wonder to what extent his baggage will rule the day come draft time. Form what I've read he could be an intreresting risk.
Eric Decker- hard not to like him, he was on TV a few times in the last several weeks. But is he a fit for us? He doesn't look like an NFL #1 to me- not to say he couldn't be very effective. But if we took him he's added to the glut of Bess, Hartline, Camarillo, Turner. I don't see it.
The template for what we need at WR, at least in my mind, is Andre Johnson, which obviously ain't gonna happen. Bowe would have solved a lot of headaches. Williams from USC looks like he runs good routes and catches well. Bryant most likely will not be available. That leaves Lafell and Benn. The defense needs help, but still I wonder if Spikes would be a reach assuming we pick around #20, and McClain sure looks good and would no doubt receive consideration. But the reality is that we are sucking wind-obviously- at WR and it's holding everything back on offense. A classic dire need. If Bryant is gone and we pass on Benn- then what? That guy from Georgia Tech? In a perfect world there will be a small school guy like Miles Austin or Marquez Colston available mid to late draft. Size, strength, track speed, good hands. Hindsite is 20/20, but I've been intrigued by Austin for a couple of years now, interesting to see him break out recently. He fits the profile of the guys I mentioned earlier. How those two slipped so far I don't know- for example both clearly have more explosion that Pat Turner taken in the 3rd- granted he came from a big time program. If we pass on Benn I truly hope we can find a guy who fits what I think is the profile- Bowe, Nicks, Austin, Colston, Brandon Marshall taken in the 4th I believe. One of those guys would be heaven sent.Big Red likes this. -
LaFell is 6'3, 206 and is no faster than Decker. Not saying Decker is as good as LaFell, but don't get confused with Decker b/c of his skin color.
Benn is also not much bigger (although he is shorter shorter) or faster than Decker, and he also hasn't shown much in the route running department b/c of how he's used.... correct me if I'm wrong. If Henne had the choice between Decker and Benn, my gut tells me it would be Decker OR <Eric Decker, the Jet Pecker Wrecker as he would be nicknamed if we drafted him>. :chuckle: -
I didn't realize that Decker was that big and fast. That changes things. I saw him a few weeks ago-Purdue?- and he was dominating. I wonder how bad the injury was.
It's been frustrating trying to get a really good look at Benn and Lafell, especially Lafell. Watching Illinois on offense- I just feel sorry for Benn. But from what I have seen the tools are all there. Size and speed are nearly ideal, looks very quick out of breaks to me. Showed great determination and nose for the endzone on a running play. They were trying to get him invloved, that offense is pathetic. Zook and Juice are stifling him. I've seen LSU play- waiting, waiting to see Lafell in action and just not much to see. My fault for not watching the whole games. You have me intrigued by Decker now- I thought that he was a 6-0, 200 lb, 4.6 guy. I'd like to see more film. -
Benn might make for a nice project if he can continue developing. I'm always a little hesitant about project guys at WR, but our Gurus who have seen him play more often than me could probably give a better idea about his LTI. -

I've already decided who i want in the 1st round (crazy i know this early in the process). Assuming we are picking around 16th selection , any one of Gresham TE, Bryant WR, McClain ILB, Spikes ILB, Spiller RB, When i say who i want i should say any one this group would make me very happy.

I don't look at Benn as a project. I look at him as an immediate deep threat who can actually catch the ball and make things happen after the catch. If I recall he had pretty good stats last year and dude can run, no doubt. Illinois has been on TV a few times down here- I think against Michigan the Illinois home crowd roundly bood the offense, and deservedly so. Just strikingly boring, unimaginative, an ineffective. He's a prisoner in that offense. Michigan had a good DE, Brandon Hughes I think. Reminded me of Lamar Woodley and could be an interesting OLB convert. Strength, motor, wheels, all of that. And a Guard for Illinois- Asamoa?- looked pretty good. Good size and seemsed to get good push in the run game and looked good in pass pro. Didn't see all that much of him but I liked what I saw.azfinfanmang and ToddsPhins like this. -
McClain is a Top Ten pick. The Dolphins won't have a Top Ten pick. If and when Berry, Bradford, Bryant, and McClain declare then Spikes will drop out of the Top Ten. Not to mention McCoy Dunlap, Carter, Haden, Bulaga, and Dwyer. I'm beginning to believe that Spikes will be there for us. Assuming we don't make the playoffs of course.
I'm with you. Love Javier Arenas! So of course he'll never make to the 3rd round right?
I haven't seen enough of Ward. Good to know you like him. I'll focus in on him next time I watch Oregon.
That's a lot offensive playmakers. I haven't seen them play but I've heard good things about Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas, and Jeremy Williams.
I like Cam Thomas' size. He didn't jump out at me when I watched North Carolina but there are so many guys to watch on that defense I'm not surprised. Nice find. :up:ToddsPhins likes this. -

As far as the tight end goes I certainly understand the value of a Gates, Gonzalez, or Witten. However I don't consider them essential to winning a Super Bowl which is ultimately the goal for every NFL team. The Giants won it with Boss. You telling me Fasano couldn't make all the same plays that Boss made? The Steelers won it with Heath Miller. The Pats won it with Daniel Graham and Rod Rutledge. The Bucs won it with Ken Dilger. The Rams did it with Roland Williams.
Look at from the flip side. The Chargers haven't won the Super Bowl even though they have Gates. The Cowboys haven't won it with Witten. The Chiefs never won a Super Bowl with Gonzalez. The Browns didn't win it with Winslow. The Ravens never won it with Heap. The Falcons never won it with Crumpler.
A slot receiver can catch passes down the seam. A running back or fullback can catch passes that would otherwise go to a tight end. Plus Fasano and Haynos are more than capable enough of making an occasional play or two.
That being said I wouldn't pass up Jermaine Gresham if Spikes, Bennett, LaFell, and Hughes were off the board. -
I don't believe I have studied LaFell to the point that you have. If he lacks explosion like you say then its possible we already have a guy like that on our roster in Patrick Turner. The only thing that I have noticed with LaFell is he knows how to find the endzone and makes plays. Of course that would also describe Patrick Turner at USC.
Even though he's not having a great season I love Benn. That guy is a stud. Golden Tate is also a playmaker. However we don't know if either of them is going to declare. I could be way off about believing that either of them will make it to the 2nd round. By the time draft rolls around they might be entrenched as 1st round picks. For some reason the wideout position is the hardest to evaluate. I'm not sure why but so many guys who were stars in college just don't cut it in the NFL. Its strange.
I know Boomer is a fan of Mike Williams. That's enough to make me curious.
Interesting comments about Decker. What is the consensus? Is he a #1 wideout? I know ToddsPhins is a fan.
The bust rate among USC wideouts is staggering. Its silly to hold it against Damian Williams. However I still do.
I'm not sold on Sean Lee but I'll tell you what his teammate Josh Hull had a hell of a game against Ohio State. Not only as the starting middle linebacker but also on special teams. In fact I'd draft Hull in the later rounds before I'd draft Lee because I don't believe one is head and shoulders above the other.
SIDE NOTE: The jury is still out on Penn State's other linebacker Navarro Bowman. I have to say I'm not a big fan but there must be some reason why he is so highly regarded.
I'm confused by your comments about Spikes being a reach at 20. Some people would be surprised if he was still on the board at 20. Are you saying you don't believe Spikes is that good?
For the record there's no way McClain gets out of the Top Ten in my opinion.
Also to follow up on Kurt Coleman from an earlier post. I'm still not impressed. He is not an impact player. Don't see him as an upgrade to Bell, Wilson, Culver, or Clemons. -
- I like Decker as a player, and think he can play any position (X, Y, or Z), but I don't at all think he is the type of #1 this team's fans are looking for.
- I love Sean Lee. With that said I would never take him before rd 3. He's had his share of injury issues, and like most PSU LBs his strength development is questionable. He has the body to make it work, and is smart as hell, but I don't see him lighting it up in year 1. I don't know that Josh Hull is a SR. He has been impressive, but he is not Sean Lee good....yet.
- Bowman is amazing. He can do everything you would want a 4-3 LB to do. I can't see him making it in our defense though given his size. He's smart, fast, and explosive though.
- I'd be ecstatic with Spikes or McClain if we picked around 15. -
IMO, Keeping Ginn as a return guy is a bad idea b/c you're using a sorely needed WR roster spot for a special teams guy.... to go along with the 1st round salary we'll be paying him. There are a lot of college guys who can return kicks but will be more reliable in the passing game than twinkle-toes Teddy.... and at less cost.
** Teddy should be doing commercials for teenage abstinence b/c he's a great role model for utterly refraining from contact...... Ginn hears more footsteps than the Manhattan subway......
If the Big Bad Wolf could make the 3 little pigs houses out of any material he wanted, he'd make em outa Ginn! :shifty: -
IMO We need a serious, reliable, #2 who can be a threat in the redzone as well as consistently help move the chains.... for which I think Decker could be perfect. Then we can at least still draft some playmakers following as well as add a true TE threat.
We might might not have a true #1, but we'd still be tremendously improved and potentially only 1 player away from being a firepower. Besides, who knows if there will be any legitimate #1's in this draft. I see a lot of 2's, but very few #1's unless a small school guy sneaks into the pack out of the mid rounds. If that's the case, I'd almost rather go after a more polished #2 like Decker than try to force a less polished guy into the #1 role. Just a thought. ?????
Agree with you about McClain. IMO, once JT and JP are gone, we'll need a serious leader to take charge of and successfully QB this young, talented defense much like Lewis did in Baltimore. To me, finding this guy should be a high priority, and I don't see too many that come along like McClain in this regards. -
