What the hell, we're in the first day of lockout-enhanced free agency. I'll do it. I'll start a thread about a guy from another team that got cut and give the old "I think he's good we should sign him wut u think?" line.
I've said before, I'm not one to under-sell Channing Crowder. I think he means more to this defense than people realize. He's really smart, studies, and he helps his teammates know where to be and why both off the field and on the field.
But he's not great, and I just have this belief that when you get better at his spot, his role...your defense gets a lot better period.
I feel like Nick Barnett has been great in the past. He and Channing Crowder are both injury prone. Maybe two injury prone guys equals one stable defense? I know that when Crowder's stability wasn't there in Weeks 1 thru 4 this year, the defense suffered for it.
I just really like Nick Barnett as a player and I think it wouldn't hurt to get him into camp with Channing and Karlos and see what he could bring to the table. With his injury issues, I'm not sure how much interest he'll get.
Just a thought.

I'd love to see Barnett paired with Dansby. If we sign him, I'll run around the block naked and singing the Dolphins fight song. :)

Damn Barnett got cut. I would love to sign him! He would give us some flexibility at the LB position as well. Being able to move Dansby all over the field would make us better.
-
That's a little surprising. I'd definately look at Barnett.

I do like Barnett. However, with his age and injury history, I'd still prefer D'Qwell Jackson, who only has the injury history and had two outstanding seasons in Cleveland before he got hurt. If I were to take an injury risk at ILB, I'd take Jackson, but I wouldn't mind a Barnett signing at all.

Lb I'd like to see brought in is Chris Wilson De/Olb from the redskins, he wears a lot of hats, is good at 3 jobs, and makes nice depth.

It's one thing if you're having trouble making it through a season without taking some kind of injury, like Crowder or like Ronnie Brown, or Nick Barnett in this. It's another thing if you haven't played in a year and a half because of a severe injury that promises to continue giving you problems. Maybe I'm wrong though I don't know the details of D'Qwells injury. -

To be honest....Ive been thinking we should really think hard about making our defense lights out. For one....I think the lockout is going to cause some offenses to be behind at the beginning of the season.
Heres what I would like to know CK...what kind of LB is Barnett in coverage? That first game is gonna be huge for us....we have to win that game to have a good chance at winning the division. NE is gonna be running out there with some dynamic TE weapons..... -
Id like Barnett. Its a talent acquisition business and hes talented. Having him would also allow us to use Dansby at OLB if we choose to utilize Dansby's rush skills. Barnett is a good player when hes on the field so why not...

I think adding an every down ILB to pair with Dansby would be one of the more logical avenues to improve the defense. Crowder is good at his job, but I think teams have and continue to catch us because of the need to sub him or Dobbins or Ayodele out over the past three years.
That being said my favorite option is Chris Gocong. He reminds me of Levon Kirkland, he's a 265 pound interior linebacker who is good enough in coverage to not be pulled in nickel and dime packages. -

I've been told that D'Qwell Jackson is healthy and ready to go.

Does Barnett play the same role in a 3-4 that Crowder does? Totally agree that when Crowder is out of the lineup the defense drops off a little but he hasn't played a whole season since i can remember.

I'd like Barrett for the right price. A few other ILB options I like are Paul Posluszny, Stephen Tulloch, and Barrett Ruud. Not sure I'd spend too much on any though. Next years draft looks very good for ILB's.
-
Well, there goes the D'Qwell Jackson option, lol.
Stewart Bradley or Nick Barnett would be nice though.
And for the record Barnett is gone from Green Bay because Desmond Bishop is awesome. He replaced Barnett when Nick got hurt and I watched him play, that demon was all over the place, making plays in all phases, and he's young and (right now) cheap. -

AJ Hawk is a guy that the Packers current coaching staff doesn't seem to know what the hell to do with. He was a 2-down ILB replacing by Brandon Chillar in the Nickel package in 2009 because they said he was a liability in coverage, then they started specifically subbing him in for Nickel packages. He's not particularly good at anything, either. -
