... then who would you bring in to replace them?
My choices would be...
GM: Bill Cowher
HC: Brian Billick
Why? They share a consistent team building philosophy that is a proven recipe for perennial success. Imposing and aggressively physical defenses, bull-dozer running games with big and nasty offensive lines who open up lanes for a dominantly physical powerback, a mixture of both fast and physical wide receivers (they always seem to have a speedy receiver and a big physical receiver on their teams).
I think they would be a perfect pairing of philosophies and knowledge. Also their combined gravitas would attract high caliber talent wanting to play for a team they were in charge of.

Cowher has himself a nice cushy job as analyst and Billick has been out of the game for FAR too long.
As I said in another thread, Grier is going nowhere. Ross won’t consider firing him unless for some reason the wheels completely come off and we only win some 5 games.
And even THAT wouldn’t be a guarantee. -
Yes, let's hire 2 guys who are collecting pensions and haven't been in the league for 17 years and 16 years.
Off to the ignore list you go.danmarino and Tuanon4Life like this. -

This thread is something out of a time capsule of two decades ago.. no thanks..
mcdaniels is safe for at least another season.. grier will be gone and ross will likely give mcdaniels gm control to try to fix the roster his way for one full offseason before making a decision on his future. Assistant gm will move up to process any move mcdaniels will make but mcdaniels will have final say for one full offseasob.danmarino likes this. -
If Miami is going to hire an old HC who has been out of the game for a bit, you spelled Belichick wrong.

Good riddance, and buh-bye. -

If you actually meant what you posted, I apologise but at the same time I'll basically be skipping over your posts as my mind can't quite understand how anyone could post that and be serious about it.texanphinatic, Tuanon4Life and danmarino like this. -

Marv Levy coached till almost 73 yrs old.
Bill Belechik coached to 71 yrs old and did not choose to stop. Quite a few teams would.be happy as hell to have him. In fact one poster here said he would rather have Belechik than Billick. I don't think the NFL press would bat an eye or decry him as too old if he landed a head coach position this year.
Romeo Crenell coached until he was 75.
Brian Billick is going on 70 years old. I am not even on the highside of those coach's age range.
Try again friend. Just because you disagree does not mean using the man's age against him In an insulting manner by calling him a pensioner as if it equates with him not being able to do a better job than many current younger coaches is a worthy or legitimate answer.
I would take 3-4 years of Billick building a team and grooming an understudy OC to replace him over what we currently see happening with our team. -
And Belichick is out of a job because teams are NOT interested in him. -

The game has long since passed both of these men by and hiring either of them would be a completely foolish idea IMO.
That being said, unless this team really struggles the rest of the year I don't see McDaniel being fired, but I sure hope Grier is.
That being said if anyone's getting fired I hope it's a full house cleaning this time, not another half measure. I just don't see either happening unless there's a catastrophic end to the season.
Grier has proven his incompetence. McDaniel is starting to show signs of failure as well this year so far, but this team is built to win now (or so they think) and with top players on big deals currently, right now isn't the best time to rebuild again. I think they give both another year unless its catastrophic as i said above.Last edited: Sep 30, 2024dolphin25, JJ_79 and Born_in_'72 like this. -
Get rid of Grier? Hell yes! Replace with one of the geriatric suggestions? That's gonna be a no from me.
Get rid of McDaniel? Nope. He deserves at least one season out from under that jackhole to prove his worth. However, I don't think he should be given the GM/HC crown.Fishhead and Born_in_'72 like this. -
McD should get a chance with a new GM. In my opinion he’s being shackled by Grier. We should look to yank some “youngster” out of KC, Baltimore, SF, any stable organization. Forget the old geezers.

If you want someone old, one of the greatest coaches of all time is available right now and he was coaching last year. In case you missed it, no team wanted him this offseason and his teams have sucked for the last few years.Born_in_'72 likes this. -
Hire Deion Sanders as HC and draft Shedeur Sanders with our 1st rounder. If I’m Ross I would make McDaniel the ball boy. If he's getting paid he might as well work for the money. Plus he has experience. I'm not at all joking. Make him the ball boy.

Are there others? Sure, but if you trace back all the Championship teams in league history since before the merger through last year's championship you will find more of them follow that blueprint than not. Our team is a bad example of just how much getting away from that blueprint impacts your odds of winning games against playoff and championship quality teams.
Last year they looked amazing against the worst teams, bit put a real contender on the field with them and the weaknesses of where many teams in the league have moved on to are exposed by those old school football teams who have decided not to move on from a tried and true recipe for success. -
What's funniest about this thread is I literally asked for others to name whoever they themselves would choose, but all I get is a hate parade from many who don't have any new ideas themselves and just want to jump on my picks. Show some imagination and knowledge. Tell us who you would pick and why instead of just jumping on someone else's ideas to try and deride them.
Hating on someone is easy, but it's too hard for you to put a little thought into coming up with an answer for the question that was posted? That looks pretty weak if you ask me.Tuanon4Life likes this. -

That's a long way off, and dependent on nobody else sucking worse than us in 2025. I think my post is a much more plausible scenario, but I could be wrong. Hopefully I am not. I'd rather see us close this year strong and perform next year the way many hoped we would this year.
Also, if we were to somehow finagle our way into picking up a promising new QB in 2026, then wouldn't it be much better for them and the team to have a GM and HC in position next year to start putting together the building blocks of a better all around team to support their talent and development. I am now of the opinion that with the abysmal play of our offensive line it wouldn't matter much if we had say Goff, Mahomes, or Stafford running our offense on the field. We'd just be fielding another quality talent to put on IR sometime during the course of the year. -

Alright, I’ve left this thread alone for the most part. It’s full of emotional rancor, but if I were Stephen Ross, I’m firing Chris Grier.
He presided over the fiasco of Joe Philbin
He presided over the fiasco of Adam Gase
He presided over the fiasco of Brian Flores
Now on his 4th head coach, this season has melted down.
Forget the Tua injury issue, what has Flores done to ensure the Dolphins had a viable backup quarterback? Skylar Thompson, Mike White, Tim Boyle, Tyler Huntley…none of them have worked out one bit. McDaniel has won only 1 game with a backup quarterback.
Our offensive line has been atrocious! Now, while no one really expects a backup quarterback to be just as good as the starter, what everyone does and should expect is the remaining offensive unit to play at the same level for the backup as the starter. But when your offensive line is so weak that your starting quarterback masks the weaknesses of the line, that backup isn’t going to stand a chance. So the same question posed as to what has Grier done to shore up the backup quarterback is poses here…what has Grier done to shore up the offensive line?
It’s time for him to go.Fishhead and Born_in_'72 like this. -
