tidbits:
- likes the Lazor hire, thinks he's a head coach in the making, but doesn't want people to overlook the fact that Philly's dominant running game was essential in Foles development
- Ross's reputation is still questionable at best around the league
- DeCosta wasn't coming no matter what, he turns everyone down
- Scot McCloughan and Tom Gamble would have probably interviewed with more stable organizations
- GM candidates still have trepidation about the owner, the structure, how the chain of command will work, who will run things when the owner is in new york most of the time.
- likes some of the current candidates that have interviewed, but again is worried how much control they'll truly have on a day to day basis, candidates worried about the 2 vs 1 dynamic with Philbin and Aponte
- many candidates still in the dark about chain of command even after interviewing, candidates even questioning EACH OTHER after interviews, trying to figure out if they came away from the talks with a true understanding of the structure
lol wow this **** is a mess...

Full control means you can sign, trade, release, draft whomever you want. Thats what a gm's job is.Fin D likes this. -
I'm sure it isn't a very desirable position, this is NOT news anymore.

I think the confusion is occurring because there are multiple franchise models still on the table. I'm not sure Omar Khan and Brian Xanders are interviewing for the same job even though the title may be the same. -
Is it really that hard to believe that GMs might have questions about the power structure in Miami? Forget about who is reporting it and how trustworthy they are. Many of us on this board said this would be a problem all the way back when Sparano was fired in 2011. We said it was a problem then that Ireland was left on board and that it could create a problem if Ireland eventually was fired but the coach was kept. And here we are. Now that news sources are reporting what many of us on this board speculated about 3 years ago, it's being written off as ridiculous. If you were entering a job where you knew 2 of the people on staff worked together in concert to get the guy you were replacing fired, would you have concerns? I'm not saying you wouldn't take the job, but you would definitely have questions about where you stood in relation to those folks.
I'm not saying this spells doom and gloom for Miami. But to write this off as preposterous ignores a very big 800 lb gorilla in the room, IMHO.ASOT, DPlus47, finfansince72 and 2 others like this. -
Let's say the new GM is targeting a player in free agency and he wants to give the guy a 5 year deal and Aponte doesn't want to give him more than 4 years...who wins out? If Aponte wins out, then the GM doesn't really have full control. If Stephen Ross has to step in and break the tie, then again, the GM doesn't have full control. What if the new GM knows that it will take 15 mil guaranteed to secure a free agent and Aponte doesn't want to give him more than 10? I think all these candidates have considered these potential issues.

Why do i think if it was Dave Aponte and not Dawn that the drama queens wouldnt be creating well so much drama over nothing......

Of course it's a problem. The main question for the GM is whether Ross is hiring him to build the winner or to serve Philbin for the duration of his tenure. Those are two different things. If he is hired to serve Philbin, then how come he does not report to Philbin? And that is a lame duck position. If he is hired to build the winner, then he should have a say over who coaches the team, fire a HC who does not perform, get rid of the QB, etc.

Man all the excitement I had over Ireland's sorry *** finally being fired is almost all gone...everyone we've interviewed is 2nd rate...partly because the top candidates would rather stay away from this dysfunction...also because they're not being offered enough power ...until I hear some much better names officially interviewing like Gutekunst, Vital, Ross etc I can't really get excited about this GM search
on the bright side, almost anyone would be an upgrade over what we had...so it's not all bad! -
Sigh.
-
the only mess is the guy himself -
-
How about that OC we hired? He was one of the top names out there and he picked Miami.
Ireland is gone and you still do nothing but whine about everything. Give it a rest dude and let it play out. I'm sure you'll hate the guy we hire anyway, but you should at least wait and see what he does first.Ducken, unluckyluciano, smahtaz and 1 other person like this. -

Who knows with all the info out there what is truth, false, or plain guessing?

The OP only thinks it's interesting because it is negative. I believe that is the only things that interests him about the Dolphins right now.LiferYank likes this. -

The Bucs have most of their coaches in place. No GM yet. In fact I'd say a GM would have less power there than here. Why aren't the Bucs being questioned about their organizational structure?

The position is for a GM, who will be presiding with full autonomy and control of the 53 man roster. There is currently a coach in place that the GM will be expected to corroborate, and work with
in developing and upgrading the roster. Additionally Dawn Aponte will be available to assist with cap management and contract negotiation.
A candidate with significant experience in managing these two aspects, should be under no obligation to work with Aponte, and should be granted the freedom to manage the cap and negotiate contracts as he sees fit if so desired.
A candidate however with lesser experience in those two areas, may be held to a shorter leash, and initially could be expected to work with Aponte in accordance with the best interests of the organization.
This is how I would presume they're conducting, interviews and explaining the position. They may not be revealing to each candidate of which group each belongs, and thus could be causing the anxiety being described.
It would surprise me if the topic of firing coaches, or executive VP's is even being discussed, at least at this stage of the interview process.

LaCanfora isn't as connected as he'd have everyone believe, that's why NFLN dropped him and they don't drop anyone? Seriously, his connection with this team is Mando...that tells me everything I want to know about him...
Now, that doesn't mean some of this may be true, but until it's heard from a more credible source, like one of the candidates, I find it a bit hard to believe. If that were the case, why would any of these guys still want to be on our radar...At that point, EVERY candidate should be dropping out of our race.... -

Can't have it both ways...Well, that's not true either, I guess you can have it any way you want, but geez... I hope for your sake, we get a GM that you approve of.... -
As for the guys who declined interviews, it's not surprising, Stephen Ross always wants the big name but he's never willing to make the necessary sacrifices to secure them. He was an idiot to think that a Harbaugh, Gruden or Cowher would even consider working with a complete tool in Ireland. He was a fool to think that Jeff Fisher would be willing to put his full trust in Ireland deciding on personnel, still a fool now to think the top GM candidates would let him force an unproven head coach on them, an asst GM and a capologist who's aligned with the coach after stabbing the previous GM in the back and pitting the two against each other...did Ross really think that the best candidates would ignore all this dysfunction and take the job? Why, just because it's one of 32 positions? If so he's wrong, these guys know there will be plenty of future opportunities to be a GM with more stable organizations.
