I am not a big fan of Ireland but I will have a lot more respect for him if he actually drafted a player at eight who can come in and play immediately. Instead of over reaching for Tannehill, who may or may not ever be a starter in the NFL. Hopefully Ross won't demand that Ireland select a QB in the first round just to satisfy fans who seem content with drafting a second tier QB just so they can be happy to see the Dolphins use a first round pick on this position.
If Barkley and Jones had not remained in college, Tannehill would be seen as the fifth rated QB in the draft and a second round selection. That is where he should be drafted and taking him at eight in round one is far higher than he should be selected. Hopefully Ireland understands this and he refuses to listen to the demands of the fans to take a QB in the first round.
Of course if Philbin and Sherman are sold on Tannehill and Ireland is convinced by these two men to draft Tannehill. I will certainly accept it because it is their jobs on the line and not mine. Hopefully if they are sold on Tannehill, he becomes the QB they think he can be and not just another first round QB bust.GMJohnson, Moves, Ludacris and 1 other person like this. -

I think it says something that a lot of better prospects are coming out. It pushes him farther down the ladder of NFL QB's. However if you think he is capable of leading a team you take him regardless of how he compares of course. -
I think if the Dolphins draft Tannehill, they will still be looking for their QB of the future when the 2013 draft comes around. Therefore if they are intent on drafting a second tier QB in this draft, they can always draft Weeden, Cousins, or Osweiler in a later round and they will be getting a QB who will end up being as effective in the NFL as Tannehill will be, IMO. -
Look the draft is a gamble. Luck could be a bust. He could get injured or fold under the immense pressure of having to be better than Peyton who is in the discussion for GOAT. Not drafting a QB because there may be a better QB coming some other time is silly. If you could guarantee Barkley will have 100% chance to make it and Tanny won't, then he has a point. This isn't like choosing between two different cell phones.ssmiami and HardKoreXXX like this. -
I hate when people talk about "reaching". If your pick is #8, but scouts have said the guy is late first rounder, that doesn't do you much good if you want to draft him. Now, a guy like Patrick Turner? He was a reach, considering no one was touching him before the 4th round, but if you take a guy within the same round he's projected (Tannehill), it's not a reach at all IMO.smahtaz likes this. -

No no if Luck and RG3 were not in this draft Tannehill would be the top QB this year.
So for the Dolphins Tannehill is the top QB since the other two will be gone.
Unless he is gone before #8.
Enough of that game good for Ireland sticking to his plan that's why he makes the Big $$$$. -

Besides, IMVHO, Holmgren won't pass up Tannehill at #4.... He can't be sold on McCoy... -
Melvin Ingram or Coples at 8?

But I do agree that if Irish selects him, it's with the knowledge from Sherman and their decision would be fine with me. At this point, I'm not worried that Tanny would be a bad selection, just that they might be pressured to take a QB simply because of our need and our owner's mandate for this offseason....I'll be 100% behind them, unless he takes Eddie Moore....hehehe -

Marino had 5 QBs in front him. He turned out alright.

If the guy who can not only play right away but be dominant is an offensive lineman, and Irish pulls the ripcord, a lot of us will jump out of the windows of tall buildings.

Who knows what Ireland is really thinking. I'll bite my tongue a bit until after the draft. If it's another lineman on either side of the football and Tannehill is on the board, I hope people will realize he's no different than Bill Parcells just less hair, less fupa, and more ginger.

The desire to satisfy a fan base by selecting a lower quality QB in the first round should not be a reason to settle for a QB who may or may not end up being a starting caliber NFL QB in the coming years. I have no objection to the Dolphins drafting a QB in this draft. I just don't see that Tannehill is worth a top ten pick when the Dolphins could draft Weeden, Cousins, or Osweiler in the second or third round and I feel all these QB's have as much chance of being a quality starter in the NFL as Tannehill does. If you don't like my opinion, too bad for you. -

As far as all the in depth analysis, numbers, and videos produced by the , "experts". If you will just take the time to review the comments of these experts over the last decade concerning QB's drafted in the first round, you will quickly realize that these experts were wrong in their assessments of these first round selections just as often as they were correct.
It is not a question of me being right or wrong. It is merely my opinion and just like you, my opinions are sometimes right and they are sometimes wrong. At least I am willing to admit to this. Unlike you, who obviously thinks that you are right, 100% of the time. -

If we take DeCastro I'd be fine. Normally I'd be against taking a guard in the first, but he has HOF type potential. A dominating guard can open up a lot of possibilities for an offense. Not that he is my first or even second preferred choice.
