For GM's, Ireland has to be most hated.
For coaches, I'd say Saban. I didn't hate Cam Cameron. He was like a deer in headlights.
Where does Ireland rank among the pantheon of most hated non-players in Dolphins history?

Like Ricky Ricardo said , he is now a yuustabeen ... a hated one , but a yuustabeen none the less.

I hate Wanny the GM the most.
He was a terrible GM.
I know there are a lot of people blinded by their Ireland hate, however he never settled on Jay Fiedler.
While I am not as upset with the Dolphins not drafting Drew Brees because I think he would have failed due to the Dolphins situation, he didn't draft him because he still had Jay Fiedler.
Pat White might have been a bad choice in the second round, however I raise you Eddie Moore.
Brandon Marshall trade was crappy, however I take your two 2nds and getting two 3rds back and raise you a Ricky Williams for two 1sts. It could have been a 1st and a 3rd however he really wanted Seth McKinney.
Ireland took a 1-15 roster and turned it mediocre and kept it mediocre and left it in a state that is pretty decent, good cap, young players, maybe a quarterback. Wanny took a team that was a decent offense away from being a superbowl caliber team to a terrible roster, bad cap situation, old players and ZERO quarterback.
I wish the most embarrassing thing Wanny did was call a players mom who is most likely a prostitute, a prostitute. -
saban is number 1 scum for life guy left us in the middle of the night doesn't get more ***** status

I don't recall Ireland being the one who took us to 1-15. Just sayin.
Doesn't Parcells count in this category considering he ran the show for 3 years, brought us into the dinosaur age, and saddled us with Henning, Sparano, Pasqualoni, Bonemego, and David Lee? Heck, half of Ireland's job involved trying to clean up his mess, of which we're still trying to recover from.MikeHoncho and cdz12250 like this. -

As for most hated coach, I would say that Tom Olividatti probably has that title.

I'm glad he's fired. But I don't see what he did that deserves the intense hatred he is getting. We've had plenty people worse at their jobs than Ireland.

Wannstedt took one of the most talented defenses in the NFL and prevent defensed, convervative play called us to an average football team. That defense was way too talented to not be a deep playoff threat every year.
Ireland ranks up there not only because he was below average with his drafts and weakness is building an offense but also because he was an huge a**.Bpk likes this. -

There is one indisputable fact that no one, JI hater or lover, can argue with. This team has a much better base of talent than prior to him coming. Now you can argue how much talent was brought in by the Fat One's rep or whatever. You can argue that he didn't do enough to get us into the playoffs. You can argue that he couldn't control the FO between his peers and his subordinates. You can argue that he was a negative incident waiting to happen with the public. You can't argue that there isn't a better base of talent, across the board than 2007...
That said, what Wanny did to this team qualifies for charges of rape...he stripped it of any talent procurement for his tenure. He lived off of JJ's guys and then when that wasn't enough, he raped the future to get help in here... No, JI didn't get the job done, but he's not the worst we ever had...RevRick, ToddPhin, jdallen1222 and 1 other person like this. -

I still believe that if we make a thread 10 years from now called "Worst Dolphin in history" and include players, coaches, FO - Jeff Ireland will be right up there. 6 years of mediocrity is a lot. The Stache had a playoff victory at least. Factor in the scandals, the 2nd round failures, the free agency blunders, the arrogance, being an epic ******* and he'll compete for the worst very respectably IMHO.

Wannstedt was definitely worse at his job than Ireland. He was worse at personnel than Ireland and a mediocre at best football coach to boot. What limited success he did have is because of the roster he inherited. He pretty much wasted the peak years of what should have been an all-time great defense.

Wannstedt by far tops my list. He is the one that started this mess we've been dealing with for 13 years. Olivadotti is a close second for his horrible defense that squandered the best Marino years. Cam "Fail, Forward, Fast" Cameron and his drafting of the whole Ted Ginn Family is Third. Then it's the whole Ted Ginn family, We drafted all those people and they couldn't make the practice squad. Nick "I'm Not Gonna Be the Alabama Coach" Saban would be 5th.
Ireland doesn't even get in my Top 5 most hated.Bpk likes this. -
Saban and Ireland, as much for their personalities as for their actual coaching/GMing ability.
Guys like Wanny were absolutely terrible at their jobs, but at least they weren't fleeing off to Alabama in the 11th hour or asking people about parental prostitution.Bpk likes this. -
Looking back at the past 14 years, Wannstedt looks like the best coach/GM we've had.
The last time the Dolphins were 'good' was under Wannstedt.
Ireland needed Pennington to fall out of the sky and a cupcake schedule to have any sort of success.
My most hated are:
Saban
Pasqualoni
Ireland -
Wannstead easily. He was just so far behind the times. That trade for RW was one of the worst ever. He passed on QBs in FA and the draft b/c he thought we were set with Feidler. He took a very talented team and made them worse. We are clearly in better shape talent wise, cap wise and draft pick wise now than we were when Parcells left. I fully expect that if the play calling improves that we'll soon be one of those teams that has 7 or 8 pro bowlers and they'll be primarily be guys that Ireland brought in.

But I do disagree with the bolded statement. All I'll say is that recovering from a few years of bad drafting/roster management should not take 9 years by any stretch of the imagination. We haven't recovered because the people that have been put in place since Wannstedt have been slightly less bad and took horrible approaches to rebuilding the roster. -
It's inexcusable for 3 years of bad drafts to warrant a 10 year recovery period. That's on Saban, Mueller, Ireland, etc.
