I have been watching luck the last few weeks and to tell you the truth i do not see the best propect since manning. He looks no better to me than barkley so maybe its not so bad we will not have the first pick.
Before i really watched him i expected to see a guy with a rocket arm, instead i see balls fluttering in the air and the guys are so wide open its not really a factor at this level until last night. His arm looks like pennington to me.
I do like his mobility and smarts but not sure he is going to a sure thing like everybody is saying.

I have only seen the last two games Luck played, and was not overly impressed. I'm far from an expert but, have not seen the sure fire greatness I thought I would. I saw a top ten pick with VG NFL potential.

Chad Pennington with a slightly stronger arm and no injury issues is a perennial pro bowler. JMO.

This is what I posted WELL before the season started and people started talking about Luck.

Luck is hot garbage, I bet he slides to #10 or so in the draft.....
:shifty: -
I would still love to have Luck as a Dolphin. Just, after seeing more than highlights, not as much as before. Did I see the same QB he was the rest of the year?
-

ANTICIPATION...Thats what he has that is tangibly similar to Pennington..I've said before, his ''intangibles are very Pennington like'', the respect he commands from his teammates and more important how he leads other men is similar to Pennington..Pennington is one of the finest leaders ive seen, and Luck has IT..
Nothing he did last nite changed my mind about his skillset, I actually saw saw him peripherally do something that blew me away... it's good to know though that there are other QB's in this draft that I'am also excited about. -

C;mon...sour grapes because we likely won't have the first pick ?? I honestly don't know, I haven't followed Luck much this year, but the bulk of the talking heads out there are still hyping the SFL campaign to whoever it goes to.... -
I think it's his recievers who are more limited in not being very fast or able to get deep that hinders Stanford more than Luck.
-
He played well last night, and I don't see any issues with his arm strength. He throws a good ball. He's not going to rifle it in there, but he has great anticipation that allows him to deliver it or as Peyton Manning said to Peter King about Luck, "it gets there".
-
Luck's never had a rocket arm. He's got a good arm, but it's not a cannon. Phil Simms got bashed for even uttering this a few weeks ago. I think it needed to be discussed.
He was without his top TE and WR last night. That TE is supposedly the fastest guy on the team. And they played an Oregon team that is Ferrari. The last team to beat them (18 games ago). It wasn't just Luck's offense that struggled. Their defense gave up 46 points! Luck was simply outgunned on this night. Oregon is way better than Stanford and the Cardinal doesn't matchup well with them.
As for being Pennington with a better arm, I'll take that with the #1 pick every day of the week! Because you're talking about a Hall of Fame caliber player there. Bigger-armed Pennington with size, athleticism and durability? Where do I sign?
But that's the thing. He's been built up so high, nothing sure of Cam Newton rookie production and Super Bowls will be enough. And that's not fair to any college player.gafinfan, DevilFin13, eltos_lightfoot and 1 other person like this. -
As for this OP, it's just you. Luck's arm is no weaker than Matt Ryan, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez etc. It's no weaker than Chad Pennington before the shoulder injuries when he was a damn good QB. He doesn't have a Jeff George or Jamarcus Russell cannon, so what. -

no one ever said that Luck had a rocket arm .... it has been said he is smart, makes good decisions and can make the throws - and really, that's all you need.
i have never believed we'd be in a position to draft him ... so i have been on the Landry Jones bandwagon ... just like last year when CAM was not a possibility for us - so i liked CKAP and Dalton ... Dalton seems to be doing just fine (without a rocket arm), and we'll see in time what CKAP can do. -
And please a little more respectful of other posters' opinions. You can disagree without being condescending.gafinfan, RevRick, Larry Little and 2 others like this. -
But hes still a fantastic QB prospect. The thing is... is that if he comes here at this point and isnt the next John Elway... our stupid fanbase would rip him apart until hes destroyed. Its how we roll...
Nothing short of Dan Marino would every be acceptable, and would be considered a "disappointment"... -
Jones does an excellent job in staring down / locking into receivers.

Luck is way over rated.

Some say he can instantly come in and set the NFL on fire. I just don't see it. -
If memory serves me correctly it was still even during the lockout when I posted that. Of course I was still going to stand by Henne. It's not like we traded for Orton, Palmer, Young or any other the other QB's some of your guys were screaming for during the off season and I had a choice between the two.
Here's what really aggrevates me about some of you S4L's. Whenever I make my case for Landry Jones, I put up numbers...I put up figures...I put up stats. I quantify my position but what really pisses me off about some of you guys...instead of countering with opposing numbers or stats or figures, you go right to juvenile snide remarks, which makes me even wonder why the hell am I even a member of this site?
We're all supposed to be Dolphons fans
We're all supposed to want our team to win
We're all supposed to want the Dolphins to win the Super Bowl
So why if, we have all of this in common does a discussion regress to such pettiness? Jesus, if no one knew any better someone would think some of us are actually fans of other teams arguing whose team is better! I don't even catch this much BS from a buddy of mine who claims he was born on the star in Texas Stadium.
I've tried not to regress to the same BS mannerisms that have been tossed my way, but I'm about to. I'm about to put it to you all like this. I've made my argument. Now counter it. Put up or shut up. -
and what would be wrong with resigning Henne and drafting Jones ... IF Jones were capable of stepping right in - great, if he needed to sit a year - fine ...
regardless of who is coaching the PHINS, we will have our best passing threats on the field than we have had in almost 20 years next year. with Marshall, Bess, Hartline, Fasano, and Bush, Clay and Gates in year 2 ... we should be very dangerous. Even everyone's favorite goat of the present (Henne) would do pretty damn good with that cast.
Fix our OL, get an impact LB and maybe a S and this team turns right around quickly ... especially with some - any coaching. -

I dunno Jones has a cannon but big arm qbs are kinda hard to judge. I honestly like barkleys release the most but I'm not sure hes ready to come out yet.

I didn't think Luck played well at all last night. I think he's going to be a good NFL qb, but I don't see the can't miss superstar either. And guys like Brady, Manning, and Brees surely have stronger arms than Luck. I don't know how you could say otherwise. Luck floats and guides the ball way too much. I've been waiting to see him just let one rip and I haven't seen it yet. Maybe he just doesn't have that 95 MPH fastball. Maybe he's an offspeed pitcher with great command.
But honestly, even the accuracy comes and goes with him when he's playing the better teams. He missed an easy TD last night on a seam route to the tight end that wasn't even close. He threw behind a couple of guys on crossing routes, and he didn't seem to react well to pressure.
I understand he doesn't have elite outside receivers, but he's got good TEs and a very good running game as well. I would still take him with the top pick, but I honestly don't see the gap between him and a guy like Barkley that other people seem to think there is.
