Jason Allen has surprised me with his play since being inserted due to injuries into the lineup at Safety.
Since he started in the Giants game in London, he has caused 3 turnovers and also shown that he is quite willing to hit people.
2 Int's in the Eagles game, and a forced fumble and 1 called back Int in the Giants game, he also has made 14 tackles and is averaging close to five a game since he was put into the lineup.
"If" Allen is a player for us at safety, that will clear up one DB spot going into next season, so far I've liked his play.
What say you on Jason Allen?

I want to see what he can do the rest of the year bro. Here is a bigger question, did Dom Capers under estimate his skills?
-
Capers likes veteran Safeties who knew his defense and make no mistakes, Allen makes mistakes, Capers may just have passed on JA being a starter..just because..
Heck he has as many tackles in 4 games(18) this year as he did in 10 games last year,(19) and he has tripled the number of turnovers.
The one defensive position that is deep this draft is Safety, even deeper if Kenny Phillips comes out early. -
My FinFriend, we are 0-10, there are no locks on our roster except for Satele and Carey and "maybe" Ted Ginn, everyone else is expendable.
Allen's improved though, and measurably improved. -
I always said I thought he would show up if given the chance on the field, so I hope he keeps it up.
-
His play has surprised me and in 3 games I think he is tied for the team lead for interceptions.
-
I wouldn't say "stud" he may be a bit like Felix Smart..just in the right place at the right time with a nose for the ball.
Yeremiah Bell was like that before he was injured, just a nose for the ball. -
I think Allen has proven he needs a chance. He warrants it with his 2 INTS and he has proven to be around plays that causes turnovers. I wasnt an Allen fan but i think hes stood up to the dilemma which is our defensive backfield and proved hes one for the future if hes given a chance. With our 0-10 record and injuries he will get all the chances he needs. Im rooting for him.

Patience with young players is required....who knew?
-
Here is "Why" I think you are quite correct:
I see us taking McFadden at #1, I also see us using our 2/2/3 on a MLB and Db's, with "maybe" Will Allen being a holdover at CB, if JA is one answer at safety, we can then draft a Safety and a CB and MLB with good solid vets manning the other spots.
Allen clearing up one safety spot will leave us free to take a MLB to replace ZT eventually.
Or at worst, we let Y.Bell and R.Hill compete for the other safety spot and take two CB, either way a JA emergence would go a long way to straightening out our Defensive Backfield.
Or a TE. -
I've been impressed w/ his tackling for the most part. He's been solid. He's a playmaker and that is what we need back there. Hill,Goodman,Lehan,Worrell, Will Allen. Nary a ballhawk among them.

Pay C long 80 mil to be good 4 years from now or pay 80 mil to DMcF to help us day one? -
The one thing that I really liked hearing even before the last couple games when he has played better was listening to a press conference from Cam where he was talking about all the the work Allen has been putting in in terms of film study and such. He talked about how Allen has embraced the idea of being the QB of the D........ Or maybe that was after he started playing well, I cant remember.
That persistency is whats giving him a chance, good stuff on his part. -
And if we do I will cry for a week. Then I will go hunting for Muller and Cam, open season baby. :punk: -
-
Yeah, I am not sure on the Mc Fadden #1 either, not sure why we would need to grab another RB in the first round, especially when we have far greater needs.
-
We need to shake things up, Mcf does that for us, we were 0-6 with Ronnie folks....:escape: -
Wow, where are we again? -
5 sacks 4 sacks? Made the OT look bad the majority of the game?
DmcF has done that the whole season, the only person who stopped him was his HC... -
And I can't find any defensive stats on Long(but I am pretty sure he makes the OT look silly every game). Aside from that you keep mentioning him, as if I said he should be taken #1. I merely said he isn't a no name, while you are crowning Mcfadden as a HOFer. Heck, you know Long isn't a no name, or else you wouldn't even be mentioning him. -

Tsk Tskl, do tell me how many TD's C long will score for us an I may get your point...:shifty: -

There are four scenarios we are looking at come draft day: (if we retain the #1 overall pick)
A) Draft Dorsey, which seems to be the most popular choice right now, and some say the best defensive player in the draft.
B) Draft McFadden, which is right behind the Dorsey vote, many want a new face for the franchise and the best overall talent in the draft.
C) Draft Chris Long, wishful thinking on my part but could happen, a defensive enforcer and great team captain with much character.
D) Trade down and gain a pick(s), draft day trades are rare but with a prospect like McFadden there some team may decide to make a move.
I personally would like to see scenario C or D play out. If D did occur we could then target players such as Kenny Phillips, Calais Campbell, James Laurinaitis, & Dan Connor.Last edited: Nov 25, 2007 -
We also have the Chargers 2nd as well.
No worries about the Patsies though, the traded with the 49ers and they got their pick this season, the 49ers are currently 2-8 meaning they will pick in the top 5 this Draft. -
I really dont see the logic behind drafting mcfadden. He is a great player I dont deny that but right now I think he is luxury more than anything. Im completely fine with the running backs we have right now. Drafting Dorsey or to a lesser extent Long because they both fill a need and are considered top five players in the draft.
