The guy was already one of my favorite actors. Turns out he's just a pretty swell guy.

Wait, isnt he the same guy that denounced his American ancestory?

Thats really cool, I like Deep also. Seen all his movies and loved hearing he was gonna be in Dark Shadows. My 4 yr old is on her 2nd DVD of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, I bet she's watched that movie well over 100 times, everytime she sees Deep she says there's Willy Wonka.

Politics aside, he seems to be a nice guy. -
Yeah I guess.
Sorry, but he is right up there with Madonna in my book. He is absolutely biting the hand that feeds him. He trashes America (Which yes, directly bashes me) but loves the fact that without America, he would still be a farmer in West Virginia.
I havent watched ANYTHING with him in it since this all came out -

I'm with Ken and Alan, the guy is a creep that makes good movies. I find him very strange and anti American.

What makes him great? The fact that he takes weird roles? Big deal. Anyone can take an eccentric role and make a name for themselves. I mean, this guy is so smart that he tatooed WInona's name on himself and had to change it after they broke up. Regular Einstein over here...Celtkin, gunn34, Frumundah Finnatic and 1 other person like this. -

Depp is one of my favorite actors, and he's been great in too many movies to count. I think his perceived hatred of America is way overblown and pushed out of context. He chooses not to live here and instead married a French woman and moved to France - whats the big deal? This happens all the time in life and a celebrity shouldnt be judged more harshly b/c of it. Its not like he's getting trashed and burning flags - he's rarely in the media and seems to live an overall quite life. Celebrities are treated with alot more respect and are left alone more in foreign countries. Its probably what I would do also to tell you the truth. There is no doubt that he supports the people of this country (especially judging by the link here), and while he probably has issues with the political regime, it doesnt mean that people should overreact and go the "if he's not with us he's against us" route.
Im not here to defend Depp personally, but just to point out that we often jump to conclusions when it comes to issues of patriotism and seem to ignore anything that might contradict that assertion. Its never black or white.Den54, anlgp, Uncle Rico and 1 other person like this. -

A-Listers Give Salary To Heath’s Daughter
Matilda, the daughter of Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger will be the beneficiary of the salaries garnered by Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law, the three actors who took Heath’s place in Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus. It was the last role Ledger filmed before his untimely death.
The actor’s estate had not been updated since the birth of his daughter, which has lead to small tabloid rumors and hearsay about the Ledger family trying to get money to Michelle and Matilda.
Although this item appears in Hello Magazine (not the most reliable of sources), they have a Terry Gilliam quote confirming it: “They didn’t take money - it goes to Heath’s daughter. That’s extraordinary. And wonderful and when you’re part of that, you think, ‘Ah, this is maybe why I went into the movies in the beginning’.”
Also, we’d just like to think that those three actors are as nice as we want them to be. Sometimes, when you’re always looking for The Bad and Ugly, something good can surprise you.

Matilda Ledger's Guardian Angels
http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/goddess/matilda-ledgers-guardian-angels/85?nc
Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell stepped in to complete Heath's role, playing different versions of his character "Tim." When the three actors learned that Ledger's will had not been updated to include his daughter, the generous trio decided to donate all the money they earned from the film to little Matilda!

As nice as that was, is Michelle Williams that destitute? I thought she was a fairly successfull actress? And doesnt either she or Matilda get any of Ledgers estate?
That said, its still a nice move from them. -

Report: Johnny Depp Leaves $4K Tip For Chicago Waiter
Depp, his "Public Enemies" co-star Marion Cotillard, director Michael Mann, along with about a dozen other folks -- who were in Chicago last week for the premiere of their new gangster movie -- made a stop at Gibsons Steakhouse around 11:30 PM, according to the Chicago Sun Times
Once the bill came around 2:30 AM -- totaling up to a reported $4,400 -- Depp made sure the man who waited on the group into the late hours was well compensated for his time, as Mohammaed A. Sekhani reportedly received a $4,000 tip from the star.
"He had visited our restaurant several times before while he was filming 'Public Enemies' and he promised me that
Because he had visited us before he calls me 'Mo' and I know exactly the way he likes to be treated. He may be one of the most famous actors in the world but he is a very 'humble guy' and a really cool dude," the waiter continued. "I have worked with a lot of stars like Sean Connery and Robert De Niro but Johnny Depp is my favorite He is a very soft spoken guy who is very charming and sweet -- when I wait for him he doesn't like to be too fussed over and is not in any way demanding."

I don't know that our society is the best in the world. It's a matter of (informed) opinion and preference I suppose. I have friends who've left the country and dreaded returning, and some that never came back (one went to France).
I think Depp was probably generalizing in those comments. Some of which probably ring true to our mentality as a whole. I don't think his opinion of the country takes away from him being a good guy though.Den54, Jt0323 and vmarcilfan75 like this. -
I dont like his political views (I would prefer it is celebertieswould just STFU about politics) however he is a genuinely good person which our society seems to lack. Plus he's a Fins fan.

I think he is a great actor and I enjoy most of his movies I don't care what his thoughts on politics are no matter how outrageous they may be.
