As expected and I really hope we don't regret letting him go and keeping Coyle instead.

Good luck to Rodgers.
That really sucks. -
I think it was obvious by his outburst on the sideline during the season that Odrick wasn't happy with Coyle as the DC. In the past though, he has commented that he thought Rodgers was an outstanding DL coach.
I have no idea if the Jets will be looking for anther defensive lineman in free agency, but they have plenty of cap room and if they decide to add another player for their defensive line, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Oldrick in a Jets uniform next season. -
They can have Odrick... he's just like Philbin... mediocre..
-
I have always thought Oldrick was a mediocre player and he isn't someone I would want them building this defense around for the future. -

I disapprove. But I don't have a vote, so.
My two cents via iPhone. -

Colossal **** up with this move. We will regret this decision. Just ridiculous.

Maybe Rodgers did not accept a potential promotion given the circumstances surrounding the coaching staff?
It's all well and good to say, "promote/hire so and so coach," but if they do not accept, there should be no hard feelings if the attempt was made by the team.
Now the question becomes: did they attempt at hiring another coach? I think it is a real possibility that they tried and failed given the coincidental time it took for the team to officially come out and say Coyle will be the DC in '15 and the time all of these coaches were available for hire. -
I've read this before but just briefly googling, taking a coordinator job from a lower assistant is NOT considered a promotion and would require our permission. Apparently it's only to head coaches and GMs that u can just leave.

But anyways, I've heard Omar talk at least a year ago if not more that Kacy Rodgers would be Todd Bowles DC if the opportunity arose. His son was playing at UM and has since finished. Can't blame him, why would he want to stay here? The staff will get fired if we don't make the playoffs again whereas with a new coach, he should get the normal 3 years of job security.MrClean likes this. -
Kacy Rodgers never coached at Holy Cross, Fordham, and/or the Ivy League so you know Philbin didn't really care to keep him.

Blocking him would be a colossal dick move, too.
You can't say to Rodgers "Sorry, they'll be other opportunities". He's a 20-year defensive line coach with no experience teaching or implementing anything coverage-related. He was not going to get hired to develop and install his own defense. Having a defensive colleague become a head coach hire him to assist him in running their scheme was pretty much his only plausible career path, and that happening again isn't all that likely.Taco Bob, 13Machine8385 and Stitches like this. -

It's only a big loss if his replacement can't do a good job. I'm going to stay optimistic.

Here is an example:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...b-chudzinski-interview-for-oc-jobs-elsewhere/
The Colts won't let Chudzinski, who is not a coordinator, interview for vacant coordinator positions elsewhere while under contract. However, his contract expires on Monday, and after that they cannot stop him. They were apparently hoping the teams needing a coordinator that have an interest in Chud, would not want to wait, and all those OC spots would be filled by Monday. Then they could retain him in his current role.
