I have talked to Griddles and he is willing to do this. Most of us play every year anyway so this makes a lot of sense. This way you can make long term deals (with salary penalties), keep draft picks, and build the teams the way we want and watch then grow. The hardest part about this would be starting the league up.
Some ideas we talked about.
* Start with a Fantasy draft. (snake draft style)
* Contract penalties for players released
* voting could be much more fun as well
With enough support we can make this a reality!
So would you guys like to do this?
***Edit***
There would be a committee to put salaries in order along with # of yrs.
No bonuses just a penalty for base salaries. Committee with figure out a percentage that is best for league.
This would be totally new and nothing we have already done.
Committee would run the league (5 ppl I am thinking). Griddles works hard and he needs help this way things can be voted on and done in the best interest of the league. Also so no one blames one person for a decision.

A fantasy draft would be fun. That's always my favorite part of playing Madden. Though that also speaks to the Dolphins always either sucking or being boring.

I like it this way better.
I like taking over a different team every year and seeing what I can do with it.Boik14 likes this. -

Most people flake after free agency. Always 5+ that lose interest. Fantasy draft? I'm ****ing in if that is the case. How would we make salaries?

You know what, we wouldn't even have to have 32 teams. If there's a fantasy draft we would just make our own teams and if someone new wants to jump in and someone can vouch for his long term ability then bam expansion.
I'd rather have a solid pool of like 16 teams that I know will do this without dropping out then, try to keep 32 teams filled for the endurance of a keeper.Skeet84 likes this. -
Very interesting... I'd be down if we did during the regular season that seems to be when most people are active.

this could be fun if done the right way... I agree that you don't have to dress 32 teams. This is where you'd want to have the hardcore guys that have been here a few years maybe be the main components to the league and setting up the rules and such. You could even just have the first year be defined by the fantasy draft only. This could even take place after this year's GML is concluded. You'd need to have 53 rounds (if a 53 man roster). Make the draft picks non tradeable for this first year since it's different from any other year following. Have the round each player is picked determine their salary. Say 1st round picks be $10m in base... while a 10th round pick be $2m. $20th round be $1m etc etc...The term of the contracts and the following years are what would be the hard part to implement. You'd want to have some sort of salary cap process. It could get complex fast. :shifty:

Yeah, I think I'd be in. I do think we'd need close to 32 teams though. If you have too many less, then everyone's working with all star teams and draft picks after round 3 might have trouble making teams.

Just so we're clear... this would be done on a separate forum (likely Mach's Stadium Rejects forum) . We would still run the GM League here normally. As far as this keeper league goes, here are my ideas. NONE of this would be set in stone... just throwing my own ideas around that I think would be fair. If any of you guys want to me explain my reasoning behind anything... just ask and I will be happy to do so.
General Information
-Fantasy snaked 53 round draft to start the league.
-Contracts determined on what round player is drafted
-Teams will take a cap penalty (dead cap) for trading/releasing players
-No less than 16 teams but no more than 32 teams (24 teams seem likely).
-Ability to add a maximum of 2 expansion teams at the beginning of each season.
-League-wide votes for major changes (adding an expansion team, etc.)
-7 Round Draft with college players.
-Rookie draft order determined via league-wide vote
-If a team GM disappears, the a committee will act on their behalf until a replacement is found.
Contract Information
-Contracts would be total amount, years (maximum = 6 years).
-Teams would have a choice of giving a player a front-loaded, evenly distributed, or back-loaded contract after a player is signed.
-The cap hit for cutting or trading a player would be 50% of the player's remaining salary.
-Once a player has been traded once, there would be no other cap penalty for trading or cutting said player down the road
-Free Agents would take the best contract available (most money).
-Teams can re-sign their players... offer contracts to their own free agents and a committee of select GMs determine whether the player would accept that deal.
-Committees would be voted on by all GMs to select the fairest group of GMs to make specific decisions.
Draft
-Have set salaries for each pick in the first two rounds. Then set salaries on a round-by-round basis after round two.
-Draft order determined by a league-wide vote at the end of each NFL season.
Voting
-Best of categories at the end of the NFL season
-Playoff style voting at the end of the NFL season
-Each GM votes for the conference winners (3 points), division winners (2 points), and wild cards (1 point).
-Vote for the winner in a playoff style poll where two teams "match-up" against one another.
-Vote for the best out of the remaining non-playoff teams so determine the following season's draft order.ToddsPhins, Paul 13, PSG and 2 others like this. -

The cap hit for trading a player seems a tad harsh, but you said you have your reasoning for everything, so I'll trust your judgement. -
