I'm going to sound like I just don't want to read bad news or admit that the franchise is going through tough times, but La Canfora is an ***.

 

Tannebaum having skeptics and the franchise being an absolute mess is somethinn everyone already knew.

Ross prepared to fire him if he didnt hire Gase, i have huge doubts about that. This guy gives Ireland and Philbin fifty chances.

 

I have to agree, plus the upside here is that if things don't work out its a good bet things do finally get blown up.

 

The only thing Ross blows up is the idea of having good sense.

I think to be an owner of the NFL you have to have some basic knowledge of the game.

I am not kidding when i say this, if someone on this board was given three days to rehearse an interview with Ross, they can become a top candidate.. This guy is impressed with anyone that speaks football.

 

Agree with this. Ross as an NFL owner strikes me as a moron who will buy into the right bull**** being shoveled at him. I'm not down on Gase, and will support him until he proves he doesn't deserve it, but watching that press conference was deja vu. The Philbin hiring all over again. Blowing smoke up the fans asses, buzz words, etc. The Dolphins rally cry #strongertogether embodies this front office. All fluff and cheese and they don't really have any clue what they are doing. Ross is a mumbling bumbling idiot and we should keep expectations low as long as he owns this franchise. The dark ages of being a Dolphins fan aren't going to be over anytime soon.

So let me get this straight. Gase not only will be calling plays, but he also has final say over personnel matters? All this while learning on the job???????

Seriously my head is spinning. This franchise will NEVER learn. First time head coach who was only a 3 year OC now has more responsibility than 90% of the league's head coaches.

 

Gase has final say over the roster just like every other coach does. He doesn't pick who to draft. They clarified that.

Albert Breer reported that on Twitter, but yeah he only picks the final 53 down from the 90 or so provided.

I cant imagine what the interview was like with Joe Philbin..

It was probably something like

It could be that his second choice, somebody like Shannahan, told him they would not work with Tannenbaum, kind of like when Harbaugh and Fisher said they wouldn't work with Ireland. Maybe he learned a lesson?

 

Then it was the perfect time to not hire Gase and fire Tannenbaum... and get that 'second' choice.

 

I'm definitely not a zombie but LaCanfora has proven to be a totally unreliable reporter. Take what he says with a huge grain of salt. In particular that Ross was going to fire Tannenbaum is just not believable in any way.

 

If there's anything I've come to know, it's that every reporter is an unreliable bum - according to fan sites.

 

Even though everyone likes to bash Ross, when asked why he was attracted to Miami Gase's #1 reason was ownership and he even backed it up by saying he had spoke several times with Mike McCoy about Ross.

The interesting thing is McCoy's only real tie to Ross is that he interviewed for the HC position in 2012 and he felt he had gotten it but then lost it because he wouldn't guarantee he would keep Todd Bowles on the staff. After hiring Gase, Ross was asked what he did different this time around and he said he followed his intuition and wondered if he should have done that before. Sound like he may have been referring to hiring Philbin over McCoy as the two obviously clicked.

every candidate that comes here are told from the get go, they are guaranteed unlimited resources and money will never be a factor. Lots of owners say this, but many has never backed it up. Ross is in the small percentage of owners that have always backed up their talk about unlimited resources.

They also know Ross doesnt know anything about football so theyre unofficially in full control

 

Dallas Thomas is a better guard than JLC is a journalist.

 

Final say over the 53 man roster, as in who is actually going to dress and play on Sundays(just like any other coach?), not who is going to be signed or cut from the team. Major Difference. The 53 man roster usually refers to the gameday lineup.

Hiring a rookie HC is one thing, but going with a rookie DC is a total setup for failure for Gase.
Hope the whole Vance Joseph was just a false leak.

 

Yawn yawn yawn. Blame ross for everything as usual. If he meddled in football affairs he'd be blamed. He doesn't and he gets blamed. He breaks out the cheque book whenever. He's hired football people to advise him. That'd surely be what you want from an owner. Money. No meddling. Knowledgeable people on board.

I'm excited about Gase and excited about the season ahead. Wouldn't even care if we went 2 - 14 if we showed some promise across the field.

 

Barry Jackson is pretty reliable, and doesn't feel the need to editorialize every factoid he gets from a team source.

 

That's a really, really low blow. La Canfora can at least get in the way of a good story, Thomas is still trying to get in anyone's way. I wish I knew where he shops for groceries as I know I get past him in line and get out the door quicker.

 

I am always curious about how people who dont like rookie coaches believe the veteran coaches actually came from. Guess what, they were rookies too. There is no way around it. It's a crapshoot always will be always has been.

It's an interesting sentiment that doesn't make sense in the real world.

 

They all become veterans some how. Kacy Rodgers is a first time DC for a first time HC in Todd Bowles and he did great.

The trick is to actually hire good coaches. Something we are certainly not used to.

Right, because brand new hires often have negative things about owners that just agreed to pay them millions and millions of dollars.

Not trying to be too snarky here, but people need to stop putting stock into what other NFL people have to say about other NFL people. In terms of employment opportunities, the NFL universe is not that large. Nobody wants to burn bridges so very rarely will anyone say anything negative about other NFL people unless they have nothing to lose.

 

Yes. This is what I've been trying to say since all the ledge-jumping after the hire.
