No one wants to be wrong, no one likes the taste of crow....
But lets look at the last 6 Miami Dolphins 1st round picks and be honest who did YOU really want? When the words echoed "the Miami Dolphins are on the clock" who were you hoping for?
2004- I wanted Vince Wilfork. At the time we were a 4-3 team and Vince has played well in the 3-4, but I just liked his size, to me he was a young Tim Bowens who I loved watching stuff the middle and keep blockers off of Zach Thomas.
Actual Pick: Vernon Carey- Not a bad pick but if I remember correctly we were duped into giving a pick to move up 1 or 2 spots. Carey has been solid not spectacular.
2005- I wanted Cedric Benson. Benson has ressurected his career in Cinncinatti after being a huge bust in Chicago, he looked so similar to Ricky I was hoping we drafted him.
Actual Pick: Ronnie Brown- Brown is one of the more talented backs in the league imo, if he could play full seasons he would be among the leagues elite, I love the way he runs, his style his desire to never go down is fun to watch.
2006- I wanted Antonio Croamrtie. He was a big guy who could make plays and we didnt have the Madison/Surtain combo, I was also high on Santonio Holmes because I watched him so closely at Ohio State.
Actual Pick: Jason Allen- Drafted to be a corner then moved to Saftey I never saw the pure ability that a player drafted that high at that position should have, he never saw the field and thats becuase he flat out just is not very good.
2007- I wanted Ted Ginn. After watching Devin Hester and his ST ability lead the Bears to the Super Bowl I thought Ginn could change games for us while "learning" to play WR. All I know is I wanted NO PART of Brady Quinn.
Actual Pick: Ted Ginn- Lacks the mentality to be a good Wr in this league, not sure if that will ever change but on a positive note he is a Jet killer.
2008- I wanted Jake Long. We had watched numerous Qb's get blindsided and fumble for way too many years, I was sick of having "doubts" about the position to be honest.
Actual Pick: Jake Long- 2nd straight Pro Bowl has been very good although I doubt he will ever be dominant but has been worthy of his draft status I think.
2009- I wanted Rey Maualuga. I didnt and dont like where we are at MLB, I thought Rey could make game changing plays for our defense.
Actual Pick: Vontae Davis- I saw the talent at Illinois but wasnt sure he had the mental make up to be a top corner, but he has displayed all the great traits of an up and coming young corner.
This year will be fun to watch as their are a handfull of guys who can make an impact going to be sitting their for the taking.
Dont be afraid to chime in even if it makes you less of a genuis.

We agree on everything but 05, 06, 07.
In 05 I wanted Ronnie and we got him.
In 06 I wanted Manny Lawson, we got Jason Allen.
In 07 I wanted Brady Quinn badly, I won't lie. Got Ginn.Fin-Omenal likes this. -
I can't remember who I wanted in 04 but I can tell you I wanted 05+
05-Ronnie Brown seemed like a no brainer to me.
06-Wanted Holmes but only because I wanted a Buckeye on the team  Should have drafted Greenway though :(
07-Willis or Okoye were the only 2 I wanted. Didn't want Quinn at all.
08-I toyed with the idea of drafting C. Long or Gholston but I felt the safe and out of need we needed Jake Long.
09-I had my eye on a few players including James Laurinaitis Rey Maualuga, and Ron Brace. They all went round 2. Hindsight the pick should have been Clay Mathews or Louis Delmas.Fin-Omenal likes this. -
In 04 I didn't even really watch football so I got nothing.
In 05, it was either Ronnie Brown or Cedric Benson. Brown I wasn't really familiar with and just read reports on him. Benson I watched because he was my favorite tailback in the NCAA.
In 06, I recall saying Antonio Cromartie but I can't confirm that lol. My memory sucks.
In 07, it was Ginn.
In 08, I was a fan early of Gholston but then I read Conuficus' analysis of Jake Long and that made my choice right there.
In 09, it was Sean Smith and if not him, Clint Sintim. I liked Clay Matthews a lot coming out and had a few arguments about him here as well as other boards but I was pretty certain that this management wouldn't take him because of his inexperience.NaboCane and Fin-Omenal like this. -
alen, what made you want something like ginn and not someone like willis? just curious.
i didn't start watching football again until after the '07 draft, so all I heard were boos for ginn  -
Patrick Willis I hadn't seen a great amount of too, that played a factor.Fin-Omenal and anlgp like this. -

o4 - Wilfork
05 - I do not remember
06 - Manny Lawson
07 - Willis
08 - Chris Long
09 - No opinion. Dolphins were drafting way to late for me to form an opinion of who exactly I wanted. However the person would have been defense. -
It's funny because they never seem to draft who I want them to. Sometimes it works out better and sometimes not.
2004- For a while I was hoping Phillip Rivers would fall to us, but after his Senior Bowl I knew that was out of the question. After that I was hoping for either Carey or Wilfork I think.
2005- I really liked Alex Smith and Aaron Rogers, but when it looked like Smith was going to get taken 1 and Rogers wasn't a target, Brown was my next choice. He was definitely my favorite back in the draft.
2006- Originally I wanted Jay Cutler to fall, but again realized that wouldn't happen and didn't really have a favorite after that. i liked Cromartie, but I was happy with Allen at the time.
2007- I very badly wanted Brady Quinn and was devastated when they passed on him. It's funny though because as much as everyone bags on Ginn, it would have set this franchise back a lot further had they taken Quinn.
2008- I was a big Chris Long backer, and argued for him to be the pick 'til I was blue in the face. Glenn Dorsey was my second choice and I was not happy with Big Jake. I'm very glad to be wrong about that one.
2009- I really badly wanted Hakeem Nicks or to a lesser extent Kenny Britt. I still think Nicks will be a star and Britt could be too, but I'm happy with Vontae.Fin-Omenal likes this. -
This is who I wanted when our pick rolled around:
2004 - JP Losman
2005 - Cedric Benson until the combine, then it was him or Ronnie
2006 - Demeco Ryans or Santonio Holmes
2007 - Brady Quinn
2008 - Kenny BrittFin-Omenal likes this. -

2005
Wanted: Didn't want anyone. Wanted us to trade that 1st round for a stud, any stud. Hated the whole class. If there ever was a draft where you might as well have traded all your picks away, this was it.
Really didn't want: Braylon Edwards
2006:
Wanted: Cromartie and Holmes
Really didn't want: Jason Allen. Oh well ...
2007
Wanted: Quinn or Willis
Really didn't want: Ted Ginn. Oh well ...
2008
Wanted: Chris Long
Really didn't want: Vernon Gholston; Glenn Dorsey
2009
Wanted: Connor Barwin
Really didn't want: Louis Delmas
Looking back, I think an NFL FO should hire me to come up with a "don't draft at any cost" list :lol:Fin-Omenal likes this. -

2005: Wanted Ronnie
2006: Wanted Cromartie
2007: I wanted Ginn over Quinn, looking back on it I'd have wanted Willis.
2008: I wanted Jake Long, really DIDNT want C. Long
2009: I wanted Sean Smith oddly enough  -
I never understood the Ginn hype. I could never understand how some people could look at him and say I need him on my team! First round pick baby!! I remember some people mentioning we could get him and they were excited by it and I just ignored them because I knew "it would never happen."
I'm still shocked he's here and that he hasn't been cut yet.jetssuck likes this. -
I really wanted Bowe or Meachem in 2007, but when Quinn fell to us it was clear who I wanted most. -
-
2005 - Braylon Edwards
2006 - Santonio Holmes/Cromartie
2007 - Brady Quinn, although I actually didn't mind the Ginn pick.
2008 - Jake Long. I wasn't a huge fan of Chris Long like so many others, and was happy we went with a LT.
2009 - Was really hoping we'd get Hakeem Nicks or one of the USC LB's. Vontae Davis was kind of an afterthought, and I did/don't have alot of respect for the Big 10 over the last couple years. (SEC/ACC bias) -
My drafts would have us getting our 3rd straight superbowl this year..:shifty:
JK..im pathetic
2004: Rashaun Woods
2005: Aaron Rodgers..couldnt believe how far he fell, i thought he was by far the best prospect in the draft..Benson in #2..
2006: Jay Cutler. If he didnt drop Cromartie or Manny Lawson.
2007: Brady Quinn
2008: Jake Long
2009: Nicks before the draft. Didnt think Maualuga would drop to us, when he did, i wanted him. Im happy with Vonte to though.
I ****ed up pretty bad on Woods. on the espn.com boards i had long arguements for months about who was better, Lee Evans or Woods..
i lost that battle..jetssuck likes this. -

2004: Don't really remember, to be honest. I was okay with the Carey pick because I thought he might be able to play LT. Keep in mind this was the first draft after the Eddie Freakin' Moore debacle, so I had low expectations.
2005: I really wanted us to trade down. I kind of wanted Braylon Edwards, but I was nervous about him and the University of Michigan connection. When we picked Brown I was satisfied with it.
2006: One of the few picks I genuinely hated. I really wanted Antonio Cromartie, though he's been up-and-down since joining the Chargers. I was nervous because we were drafting a guy (Jason Allen) coming off a major injury and without a real position.
2007: I really wanted Brady Quinn. I hated the Ginn pick at the time because I felt like it was a vanity pick for a team that had a lot of holes that needed to be filled. Everyone talks about Patrick Willis, but I saw us passing up a franchise QB in Quinn. You may recall everyone thought Quinn would go top 5, and we were shocked when he was there for us at 9. I couldn't believe we went with Ginn.
2008: I just wanted one of the Longs - Jake or Chris. Didn't much matter to me, though I preferred going LT over a guy who would be asked to convert to OLB in our scheme.
2009: I wanted Clint Scintim, but I was more than okay with the Vontae Davis pick. My big meltdown occurred when we bypassed on both Scintim and Barwin in round 2 to select Pat White. I was at a buddy's house, and had had a few beers. I was somewhat negative about the pick, though it was redeemed somewhat when we got Sean Smith a few picks later.ToddsPhins, Xeticus and Fin-Omenal like this. -
I guess Im the only person who wanted Matt Ryan? :)
Big Jake was my solid #2, and I wanted nothing to do with Chris Long, Glenn Dorsey or Gholston.
I also wanted Quinn in 2007. Previous years I dont really remember having favorites, but I was not thrilled with the Allen pick in any way, and while I thought Carey was an OK pick that trade up to get him was terrible. -
Ginn was hyped up becasue of two things, the last play he ever had in college was a KR for a TD in wich he made all americans dissapear into the screen...and Devin Hester who helped a team with a very good defense and a very questionable offense (wich had ben our M.O) get to the super bowl.
Like I said I truely thought his return abilities would change games for us, as it turns out it has really only changes a couple.
But make no mistake the whole media was pumping up Quinn the boy from Notre Dame, but did anyone really watch him play? His accuracy was horrid and for a guy with not that strong of an arm how well was it going to translate?
As dissapointing as Ginn has been, Quinn wouldve set this franchise back big time. No way Cam gets fired with a rookie QB leading the team 1-15 or not.
Funny how things workout sometimes. -

No LT in the league is dominant then if Jake Long is not dominant. Joe Thomas isn't Orlando Pace out there either. The pass rushers have improved in speed since that day as far as pure speed. He's not pretty out there but Long is extremely good or at least has been so far knock on wood. Richmond Webb did it with more style.
-
I think Jake has been very good, but dominant? Orlando Pace in his prime? Not even close. But he's young we will give him some time.
