this is a classic case of 4 or 5 wrongs don't make a right.

 

Even though I seriously dislike what Armando says to people, how he presents himself at times, what he said to Simon and tried to do (or threaten to do) to us for what was an honest and justified gripe we had with his blog where his volunteer assistant ripped us off...I'll almost always stop short of wishing the man gets fired. Ultimately, he's just a working stiff. It's not like the guy is making millions of dollars and should have enough saved up for he and his family to fall back on for a decade if times get hard.

 

I don't think he was better at all. I think he was worse. And that's saying something.

 

How so? I'd think his replacement would have to be better by default.

Salguero should have known better, and this just reconfirms how extraordinarily thin-skinned he is. But this Johnston guy is trolling hard. Actually, no. It's not trolling, it's outright douchebaggery. Nothing will happen to Johnston, but something will (and should) happen to Salguero. The race baiting alone is appalling.

Considering we are now stuck with Mandomar as the lead of the Dolphins beat writers, not very high, apparently.

That Johnston guy is a gem. The first Armando E-mail should have been his one and only response to this *******. He put him in his place then and there. But he had to take it a step further and lower himself to the same level. That second e-mail completely erased his "high road" response from the first one.

 

Yeah, Ck...aside from egging on Salguero, he got his facts just as wrong as Salguero was for that last tirade where HE got his facts wrong...

It's a shame this took place because both parties were severely misguided in the points they were trying to make and each ended up spouting off at each other instead of addressing the issue Johnston originally brought up... Both were also spewing bigoted, racist-type remarks towards each other and not at the issue...

 

I say that mainly because there are certain things I don't know if I'm taking them personally or not :)

 

If I were the Herald I would follow up with an email in which I specifically rescind my apology to Billy Johnston, but re-assert my apology to all Vietnam veterans for the careless comments made out of justified frustration in response to the slanderings of one bigoted veteran. I would explain that Armando was justifiably angered and thus attempted to insult Mr. Johnston in the most effective manner possible, and as a result his misguided effort could also be perceived as insulting to millions of brave men and women who fought and died in Vietnam. I would make it extremely clear that I apologize to THEM, but not to Mr. Johnston.

 

Duh, immigrants like him are busy running the country.

 

We didn't lose a single battle in that war. Why did we lose, because we didn't colonize? Neither did the USSR. Just sayin...

 

Yup, complete lack of common sense.

 

Let's also equally admonish this Johnston character. I know we all want to hate on Armando, and he deserves reprimand for his last very unnecessary e-mail, however Johnston is the instigator and what he said on his e-mails is just as awful and ignorant as Armando's rant.

 

Difference is that one is supposed to be a professional.

 

It matters not. Hate is hate, regardless of the source.

 

Armando better be let go.

When you're in a professional position you know damn well that position carries a responsibility in the way you have to act and respond to situations. I don't care about "Billy". He's a random person sending an email. When you are in specific positions of power, notoriety or public eye you are going to receive comments like that from all kinds of people. You have to respond in a respectable manner. Armondo not only went nuclear in his attack against this reader, he dragged the entire US veteran base for one of the most emotional conflicts this country has ever been involved in.

Armondo should go. It's what's right regardless of whether he's a good sportswriter or not.

 

Sure it does. Any professional should be able to intelligently address or ignore an obvious troll.

That's what I said? Johnston is just some random dumbass with an opinion who clearly wanted to get a reaction out of Armando.

Armando is supposed to be a professional journalist who should be held to a higher standard. Safe to say nothing was professional or intelligent about his second email.

 

it doesn't matter what the other guy said, imo...armando is working in public, he has to know what leaves his keyboard and not, it's like that retaliation that happens in sports, the 2nd guy is always the idiot, the guy who has to face the consequences compared to the the guy who started the incident...very poorly on his part, given the fact that he wrote that last one after midnight, maybe he was drunk
