Kravitz: Manning not “throwing like an NFL quarterback yet”
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 8, 2012, 3:56 PM EST
Getty ImagesWe’ve established that Peyton Manning’s neck has recovered enough to play football again.
The question is whether the nerves in his arm will regenerate enough to allow him to play football well again. For now, Manning doesn’t have his fastball back.
“I know some of the people that have seen him throw,” Indianapolis Star columnist Bob Kravitz said Tuesday on the Tony Kornheiser Show on 980 ESPN. “They say he’s not throwing like an NFL quarterback yet. That doesn’t mean he never will. This thing is going to take time. Structurally, he’s sound. Structurally, he can take a hit.”
This is where we are in February with Peyton Manning. He can play again, but he may only be able to play like a late career Chad Pennington. Kravitz used the phrase “noodle arm” to describe Manning’s throwing. No one knows how much that will change by August.
Kravitz, who said he didn’t think Manning was being “political” when he spoke to Kravitz two weeks ago, was less generous talking about Manning’s strategy during Super Bowl week.
Kravitz called leaking the story to ESPN about Manning’s health a “calculated” and “deceptive” move by Manning that had the opposite effect of its intent.
“I think people are starting to sway over to Jim Irsay’s side on this,” Kravitz said.

Well here it is folks. No gray areas here.
As of now Manning has a noodle arm.
So far I have been pretty dead on about the situatiuon.
You have to think of it in a real sense Dolphin fans.
He is still not better.Trowa likes this. -

Today we have the proof. -
This is an article telling everyone something we already know. Might as well have said he heard reports that the sun is still there this morning. -
To be fair Kravitz its a worthless POS that jumps on and off bandwagons like its his job. I am forced to read his crap in the indianapolis star all the time.

on espn radio i forgot who said it, might have been mortensen said manning right now is comparable to jaime moyer

Not a big deal. What will be a big deal is if it does not improve week to week and month to month. Personally I'm not willing to pass on Manning for Flynn unless our staff is sure Flynn is a franchise QB. Because if he isn't you have Matt Moore Jr and we already have Matt Moore. If Flynn isn't the man I would rather wait on Manning and either pursue him or try and acquire a QB in the draft to learn behind Moore until he is ready.

Astounding. Brilliant discovery.

Of course to the "Manning is hurt still sign him crowd" that shouldn't be alarming.
The guy is toast I'm tellin' ya. -

It's not where he is currently it is where he will in September and beyond.

Comparing the ACL injury of a 31 year old QB with that of a 36 year old QB that has had triple neck surgery (a surgery when he was supposed to be ready to go last preseason) and has to still regenerate nerves in his throwing arm is absurd.
What's next? Comparing Manning's recovery equivalent to that of coming back from a stubbed toe...Trowa, FinSane and Killerphins like this. -
I would be excited if manning was 100% but I feel he is done and I would either sign flynn or try to move up and grab griffin. -
From what I have been told, nerve regeneration is the issue. And let's face it, Peyton Manning wasn't getting by with a rocket arm to start with. Manning's arm was always middle of the road IMO, he was just 3 steps ahead of the defense.

In my opinion, until proven otherwise, Peyton is damaged goods. If at the beginning of free agency Peyton has not shown real improvement in his arm/nerve regeneration we have to pass. If we miss out on an opportunity to pick up a healthy Flynn to wager that Manning will get his arm strength back I'm gonna lose it. Flynn is no sure thing either but betting on Mannings health is a bad wager. On top of that even if Manning gets some velocity back you're only talking what 3-4 years best case scenario then were right back to square one.

Wake me when he's released and hand me a medical report instead of a hack reporter or hack bloggers opinion.

I think marino placed an italian hex on the qb postion when wanny all but made him retire and we have been cursed ever since.God I hope I am wrong.I am sick of the freaking losing. -
Let me get this straight? It is early feb, and he is already throwing as well as the last noodle armed QB that took us to the playoffs. With 7 months until the season that doesn't sound so bad?
-
Then it's a good thing the season starts in September, and not February. And I'll take a noodle arm Peyton over Matt Moore or Chad Henne anyday of the week.

KP was banned, so who will fill in for him in the Marshall threads?

I have a patient who played football at Mississippi State back in the late 1980s to early 1990s. During his senior season, he was one of the top offensive guard prospects in the country. He told me recently that Miami was actually looking at him as a 1st to 2nd round pick. In his last game of his career, he suffered a knee injury that tore his ACL. Not only did he tear his ACL, he also tore his popliteal artery and had peroneal nerve damage. To this day, he has to wear a brace on his lower leg and has no feeling in that part of his body. The nerves never regenerated. -
Do they mean Chad Pennington of 2008? That's his last actual season. I recall Miami winning the AFC East with a noodle arm QB.
I'm assuming he'll be stronger in September? As long as he's accurate and can throw the ball, he's still better than anything we've had in 12 years.Fin D likes this. -

This is a clear case of someone twisting a report completely out of context.
Manning may not reach full strength again but this article is not stating any proof that there is evidence that will be the case.
It's simply a report about where he is right now during his recovery.
Geeez.... -
I just don't see the appeal of a guy who's a year behind schedule in his recovery, has had to have 3 neck surgeries in the past year and still can't throw the football like an NFL QB. We've heard that he will play for little to no guaranteed money and many see this as a low risk high reward payoff situation. However, if Peyton Manning was really willing to restructure to no guaranteed money and purely incentive based contract don't you think Irsay would keep him in Indy if he was worth keeping? Say what you will about Irsay, he's no dummy.
As for his actual recovery, you can say it's 6 months till camps, but Manning is going to be released in a little over a month. It's at that time we have to make the decision. We can't sit around and wait to see if he heals up before we decide to sign him or not. Do we take a guy who can't throw a football now in the hopes that he'll be able to in August? I'm not a medical professional, but I've read a lot about Manning's situation. He was supposed to be able to start week 1 this past season, and then had complications which lead to extra surgery. Now he's having further complications with the nerves not growing back. This isn't a basic rotator cuff of ACL injury that the NFL has plenty of info on. This is a career threatening situation from which Manning may never recover.
And if we do take Peyton it's not like we're signing Flynn or drafting a QB in the 1st round as well. We will be getting players to put around him to try to win now. If he fails, we're in the same situation we're in now. After all of our mishaps at the QB position over the past decade+ I find it crazy that so many fans truly advocate signing a QB who, at the time we will have to sign him, will not be ready to play in the NFL. And there's no definitive time table for when he may be able to play again. We're simply not a franchise who can afford to make this move. And the question remains does Philbin want to attach his coaching legacy to a broken down Peyton Manning. If Peyton comes in and fails Philbin will not last very long.cdz12250 likes this. -
