I am absolutely euphoric about this hire. I think that one of the best things about McDaniel is that he seemingly has an expertise in an area that the Dolphins lack - the trenches. I love getting a guy who has expertise that starts in the trenches and building out that sweet, sweet running game.
Currently, we have an absolute disaster on the line despite using high draft capital to fill these positions out. I have long had a theory that we drafted too many flex guys who could play guard or tackle and may have actually wound up with a ton of guards. I think McDaniel can come in and very quickly figure out what these guy's best position is and put them in a place to maximize their skills. I also think that it is almost an advantage that he was not on the team when we drafted some of these guys and therefore has no allegiance to them. Whenever we get a new coach, there is always collateral damage, and some guys will be traded or cut. I think that this is a necessary step for us. If McDaniel thinks that Austin Jackson is a bust and we trade him for a 7th round pick, great. Let's move on from our mistake. If he thinks that he can work with him and help him realize his potential, fantastic. I just love having a guy who I think is competent enough to make these decisions. I have a feeling for the first time in a long time, we can get suitable guys in free agency that will work.

Doesn't matter anymore what we think we got a new Head Coach and Im just happy we can start getting plan for this team together!
What Im more inserted in is who he brings in as coached for the OC and DC. I sure hope he doesn't stick with who we got.
Also I am worried he's going to be overwhelmed as a HC so I hope he brings in some veteran coaches to help out!
Also im saying blessing that it wasn't Vance Joseph or Moore!!

Keep Chris Grier out of the draft room, Coach McDaniel should have made that a condition to sign. Then I'd respect him out of the gate. Even if he fails as HC tbh.

Idk what it is but he has mobility, size, strength n some mahomes in him with the way he can side arm that thing.

I watched about 80% or more of his snaps this year. I kept thinking he reminds me of Burrows how he gets the snap and knows where he is going with the ball. Of course their OC was impressive and he had lots of experience with the one WR, but I was impressed. Coach said he is best QB he ever coached and he coached Sam Donald and some other WKU record holders that had time in the NFL.

I just hope Ross and Grier don't get in his way. I hope they are supportive instead of controlling.

He can only do so much. Without talent at key positions like quarterback, positive results will be minimal at best. I like the guy, not trying to be negative, but we just did this three years ago. How many games into next season before the regulars on here start calling for his public execution?

Dave Wannstadt: Head Coach (compiled a 41-57 record before Miami)
Jimmy Johnson: Head Coach: Last time Dolphins even tried to bring in someone who had a successful head coaching job before us. Not so coincidentally, the last time the Dolphins were even partially relevant.
The Dolphins have not hired a former head coach since the turn of the century; 22 years ago. 23 years ago for former previously successful one.
Not that any of these guys were put in a position to be set up for success since 2016, when Chris Grier took over as the head of football operations. Why should I be convinced that McDaniel isn't just another Flores, Gase? As Clown Farts continues to retain his favorite Yes man making the Dolphins a perpetual joke. -
Anybody who portends that a head coach will be a failure is far more likely to be right than wrong. However, if there is a difference that can be detected between McDaniel and Gase at the present time, it's that McDaniel has had the goal of being a head coach since he started his coaching journey, making it the "career objective" on his resume for example, whereas Gase as a head coach functioned as though he wanted nothing more than to be a coordinator. If any of that translates, McDaniel will embrace the overarching responsibility and oversight of that position, whereas Gase shunned it.dolphin25 likes this.

The problem with these sorts of analyses is that the rate of success for head coaches is so small that you'd be hard pressed to identify any strong predictor of it. Therefore you can nominate just about any variable like this one as a basis for predicting failure and make things sound ominous. Due to the low success rate of head coaches, things are ominous by default. There is likely no single variable you could use to make it less ominous.

That's what happens when you have a low prevalence of something (i.e., head coaching success) -- everything looks the same as everything else, because there are no adequate variables to use to distinguish things from each other in a predictive manner. You could also say McDaniel compares to Belichick and not be wrong. The issue is that there is nothing reliable to use to predict he'll be like either Gase or Belichick.

Here's my predictor. Dolphins hire off the scrap heap because management can only handle "Yes Men." McDaniel's pupils turned to "$>$" and he became a "Yes Man." Probably why he required a contract, because he knew he couldn't do **** with Tua. Just a man trying to make a big pay day.
As far as type of coach goes? Maybe, we'll see. As far as reason for bringing him in, this is shades of Gase/Tannehill all over again. McDaniel may be smarter than Gase though, he essentially ensured himself of 4 years of big pay.

I am not saying he will be the answer but Gase and Philbin rode the coattails of two hall of fame QBs..
I did not want any coach that works with a hall of fame QB.At least the 49ers won with an average QB kind of like we have here.We can win with a good run game and play defence
The most important thing this dude needs to do is find a good offensive line coach.Then go into free agency and get 2 offensive lineman. -
Yeah my friend, it's like , McDaniel "could" theoretically be a good coach, but even good coaches can't turn chicken **** to chicken salad. Grier is going to keep dicking the butt of this team for who knows how long. Unless he gets lucky and makes the right picks, but I have serious doubts about his scouting abilities.mlb1399 likes this.
