hah...looks like you just beat me to the punch to posting this article. This was a great read!! Sites like MMQB and Grantland are awesome with their real journalism.

 

Cool, manipulate olinemen into standing there with their finger up their butt, while wake destroys his edge, and drop the extra men in coverage, kraken wins every time.

 

It was all great until they shat the bed at the bottom of the article where they say the best corner in football is Vontae Davis.

 

Even so, seems like the colts D is routinely getting torched just off recent memory - kinda eases any sting from losing him.

 

If we still had Vontae I doubt we'd get Grimes. I'd rather give up the tiny difference in skill for the Bering Strait sized difference in leadership Grimes brings.

 

Shame Misi was not mentioned as we're clearly a different defense with him out there.

 

His name isn't big enough yet. And to be fair, he's not on the field enough for an outside entity to really see the differences. Misi has been a consistent player his whole career since entering the league. At SOLB, he didn't have flashy responsibilities and now he's just not in enough and somewhat overshadowed by the whole unit + the emergence of Jenkins.

 

All day I'd take grimes even with the age difference, best two year level of play I've ever seen from a dolphin corner.

Yeah, I'm sure Baltimore survived too, they seem to have gotten better as well. Maybe he is a talisman, where as soon as he leaves your team you get significantly better on defense.

How about the addition of Delmas actually allows us to prevent completions over 10 yards. That is the biggest difference between last year and this year; our safety play.

 

It was pretty revealing how our LB unit instantly improved from the moment Ellerbe and Wheeler got hurt in the NE game.

 

As limited as guys like Trusnik are, they're at least disciplined and consistent. Ellerbe and Wheeler are huge boom and bust LB's and way too often did they bust.

 

It really was a blessing that Ellerbe got hurt game one. Gave our other guys so much more time to develop.

 

I still have a hard time about the GB and Lions game...games we should have won, but lost due to the D...

EDIT: Ok, I didn't mention, but we were playing against good teams...

 

Outside of the KC game, they haven't had a bad game.
Outside of Calvin TD, I don't remember a big play they gave up.

So even tho they are bend but don't break, they may frustrate at times, they are a pretty solid group that gives us a chance every game.

 

Yeah, and that is also where Sarah Palin can see Russia from her back porch, hence deeming herself qualified on foreign affairs. :headscratch:

 

Wheeler has played a lot better this year, but there are so few snaps now where we use 3 LBs and obviously Coyle is gonna prefer Jenkins and Misi.

and the fact that Jenkins is right there as the best linebacker in coverage in football.

 

I am wondering how many snaps/minutes the D is playing this year vs last year? I've looked, but no can find. To me it seems like less and if so the O should get some of that credit.

 

2013 - 1,106 snaps - 69.1 per game (5th most)
2014 - 645 snaps - 64.5 per game

However, 2013 averaged 12.1 def drives a game, whereas 2014 is averaging 11.5, so it's about the same difference.
