DT Randy Starks has been cut by the Dolphins this morning
He was a really good FA signing and he prolly still has some gas in the tank as a rotational guy. -
There's your Clay money. I can see the trade off, if you need to replenish the position there are more options via the draft than there are at the TE position. And, Starks' play did decline last season compared with that of previous years.

Hartline, Gibson, Starks, Ellerbe, Wheeler, Trusnik, Wilson, Finnegan, Delmas, Smith, all gone.

Players whose salaries were not justified by their contributions on the field.
I'd venture to say that the "analytics" emphasis the team has incorporated is going to work and identifying as its first order of business the "salary-to-contribution ratio" of the entire roster. -

"Team A" could be trying to pull that off with the eyeball test, and "Team B" that's doing it statistically could in fact have a significant competitive advantage based on that alone. -

And remember, since you'll be using your eyeballs alone, you won't be able to refer to any information other than what you're seeing on the field in determining his salary cap hit or that of the average defensive end in the NFL.
Good luck. :)
There's a reason these analytics people are being hired and paid good money to do their work, folks. -
