I was looking at cbs and who might be cut and Jabar Gaffney came up would you guys be interested? At this point I just want someone who isn't going to drop the ball and help build Tannehill's confidence for the next season

Man I'd rather roll with a Cunningham or Fuller on the 53 than a player the caliber of Gafney.

I mean Gaffney did almost have 1000 yards last year with Grossman and Beck there throwing him the ball. Are there any other expected cuts you might be interested in?
-
It's hard for me too guess who will or will not be cut...I'd be looking for a guy who could stretch the field and hold onto the ball. As fore mentioned teams like GB and NYG will have to let go of some talent at the position.
-
With the log jam @ WR and RB in SF, Kyle Williams may be a casualty...
Brandon Gibson is worth watching over in ST Louis as well. -
-
I think both make the final cuts but I would love to pick up Kyle Williams
-
Crabtree
AJ Jenkins
Moss
Manningham
Ginn
SF couldn't wait to resign Ginn especially after Wiliams basically cost them a birth to the SB.
If they keep 5, I bet Kyle is the casualty. If not? I'll gladly take any of the other options. -
Exactly he's pretty reliable and he's way better than Nanee, who from everything I've heard is likely to make the team. I'd much rather have someone like Gaffney

It's a tough deal, because you're balancing wanting to develop Tannehill with receivers who can play, with wanting to develop young receivers, who players like Gaffney are not.
If you're rebuilding, you want to develop players like young receivers, but if you're developing a quarterback, you need receivers who can play.
I think the happy medium is that you make sure your starters are reliable and capable guys like Hartline and Bess, and you develop the guys further down on the depth chart, which means I think you don't need players like Gaffney, as long as Hartline is healthy.
I do think there needs to be a solution for Naanee. Tannehill IMO needs someone more capable out there starting. Hopefully he's just a placeholder for Hartline who will soon be back. -
-
I still say Gaffney would be worth it this year its not like the young guys we have are that extraordinary and we all seem to agree that Naanee isn't worth it
-
If you're a rebuilding team, there is no need for guys who have hit their ceiling and are still simply ordinary. Again, the other concern of course is that you're developing a rookie quarterback, so again the happy medium IMO is that you make sure your starters, and maybe your third WR, are capable.
I'd say as long as Hartline, Bess, and Gates are healthy, there is no need for the Jabbar Gaffneys of the world.
Now if you want to nominate a younger guy who still has some undeveloped potential, or an extraordinary veteran (i.e., unlike Gaffney), I'd be all for that. -

My issue with the Gaffney-type players is this: if Brian Hartline is healthy and can start, which I'm assuming he soon will be and will, and your top two other receivers are Bess and Gates, then whom do you cut to make a Jabbar Gaffney type your fourth WR?
I don't think it makes sense to cut any of the other WRs who stand to make the team to have a Jabbar Gaffney type as your fourth WR, not on a rebuilding team where the development of young players is the primary goal.
I don't want to cut a Marlon Moore, Julius Pruitt, or Rishard Matthews, and sacrifice their potential development (as well as their special teams play) on my rebuilding team so that I can have a Jabbar Gaffney type in the peripheral role of fourth WR. -

I am watching the game again this morning and Naanee dropped two passes out right, but there was at least one bad throw. Fasano had some inexcusable drops, especially in the endzone. However, there appears to be a timing issue there. Naanee still doesn't get separation and has serious flaws in his game, but I might have bee exceptionally hard on him. Still don't want him on roster.

I am not even advocating for a number one receiver. I undertand the primace for the WCO. You can use lesser known quanities at wr, but we have a group that can't do the things necessary to play in the WCO, like catching the ball consistently and running after the catch, or getting separation.

I dont know that we need someone to go deep. We need someone who can get open and catch the ball on a consistant basis. Once Hartline is healthy, I think that he and Bess are a solid #2 and #3, but the problem is that not only do we not have a number One, the rest of the guys dont even look like #4s. If we can somehow get another guy who is a competant starter opposite Hartline, then I think that we'll be ok. The team just needs to eliminate 4 and 5 WR sets from the playbook, LOL. Roll with a lot of formations that get Bush, Fasano and Clay on the field at the same time.

Skins will waive Armstrong or Banks, imo either would be an upgrade.
Naanee has the "practice like Tarzan, play like Jane" thing going on..we can do better.btfu149, dolfan32323 and dolfan22 like this. -

Just watching the game , and the drop by Fasano that should have been a TD reception was awful. Critical play , chance to take the lead after the interception , Tanney leads the team down the field from inside our own 20 and basically gets you a major score , except a veteran leader at a key position for your rookie QB simply doesn't make the play he needs to.
We have a lot of guys with questions , no proven track records , no real reason to expect substantive improvement and we are counting on them to do that.MrClean likes this. -
