Once a subordinate to Jeff Ireland, Aponte wrested free of his control and became an ally of Philbin’s and a confidante to Ross. During the 2013 season, the Miami Herald reported that Aponte relayed Ireland’s criticism of the coaching staff and play-calling back to Philbin, widening the divide between coach and general manager.
When Ross embarked on a fact-finding mission after the end of the season, Ireland wound up losing his job. Aponte and Philbin survived.
Some around the league are not surprised. They believe she played a similar role in the Browns’ dismissal of George Kokinis less than a year into his time as Cleveland's general manager. Aponte was the Browns’ vice president of football administration at the time, and an ally of then-coach Eric Mangini, who, like Philbin, won that internal power struggle. A source familiar with the situation in Cleveland said Aponte “can’t be trusted.”
Although that’s just one side of the story, it was repeated more than once in Mobile this week, where league power brokers met for the annual Senior Bowl. Farmer was there, too, and so it would not be at all surprising if he heard the same criticism.

In reality, there appear to be countless voices out there putting there names out in public, giving high praise to Dawn Aponte, and a meager few if any real voices condemning her, and those coming from nameless sources. No one has come out publicly to denounce her, and the only ones publicly denouncing the Dolphins FO are the media and the fans who are buying the BS.
Not even the disgraced Jeff Ireland has accused her publicly.
The accusations would seem to perfectly align with the amount of misogyny that we all know exists.
It would be fair to assume that the accusations of Aponte being a vindictive ***** are patently false.
The problem with the Dolphins FO was Jeff Ireland! It was never Dawn Aponte.
Every reputable source does nothing but praise her.
There is every sound reason to believe she is an asset.mullingan likes this. -
Aponte may be a hard *** but she's good at what she does. Jeff Darlington said it best, man up and stop being afraid of her.

You and several others whiff repeatedly on the relevant points imo. Is it right for a capologist who handles other "internal" situations like the Jonathan Martin mess to report to the owner and not the GM, or to request that power structure? How does that effect the dynamic of the team and the front office equilibrium? Were many Dolphins fans proud to see the team head coach get led around by a team executive and force fed talking points off of index cards at press conferences like a sniveling wimp?
Does anyone have any other examples of an NFL team executive teaming up with a HC to undermine and dump the team's GM? Except, for course what happened in Cleveland between Aponte, Mangini and the fired Kokinins.
The funny and sad thing about a lot of these comments and threads is all the *****ing about any criticism of Aponte, a woman in a position of power on an NFL team, and claiming that the criticism is because she's a woman. That's not just intellectually lazy, it's stupid. All that it does is distract from the central issue, which is the ACTIONS of a PERSON who is in a position of power with the team. Take a look at what has happened, how it has happened and the number of GM candidates who ran from the Dolphins like rats off of a sinking ship. Then when your instinct is something equally as stupid as before, "Aponte woman, you no like her", take a look at the big picture and maybe you'll realize that it's not gender that's the relevant issue as per Aponte, it's her actions and the trail of controversy and mistrust and discord that it's resulted in. Man or woman doesn't matter, it's not the issue. What matters is her track record of discord and the damage that she's done down here. *****, moan argue all you want, but I've never in my life in multiple decades of being a Dolphins fan seen candidates fleeing from a Dolphins GM job, one candidate choosing to remain in CLEVELAND as an ASSISTANT GM rather than take the GM position in Miami. And that's amazing.
This is the theater of the absurd, and Aponte is right in the middle of it. She doesn't get a free pass because a bunch of half wits gloss over her actions and chalk up any criticism of her as to sexism. That's nothing more than pathetic and intellectually lazy, but then again what do you expect from an internet message board. Oh yeah, urban dictionary definitions of the Golden Gate Bridge. That's about right.finfansince72, shula_guy, LBsFinest and 1 other person like this. -
What I meant to refer to was the Eiffel Tower. Makes a lot more sense with Dawn being the "woman in the middle" and all.

Dawn Aponte holds the same position and has the same power as Brian Weidermier once did. The only difference is ovaries.
Your continued argument and whining without having even the most basic of knowledge (like what her job actually is) is what is pathetic and intellectually lazy.GARDENHEAD, Two Tacos and LiferYank like this. -
So the question is, if we try to look at just the facts, why did all of the Dolphins GM candidates bail? What is really going on? All of us here are guessing and going by what we read, from those writers who we trust, I hope- have all of these bailing GM candidates been duped by the media? I doubt that. Chalking up all of the dysfunction before the GM candidates started bailing to poor and false reporting seemed weak to me to begin with- now that the Dolphins GM position has been dumped on more than a dog park lawn, dismissing all negative reports seems just foolish. I doubt that GM candidates are dropping off like flies because of shoddy reporting, it's more likely because something stinks and stinks bad in the Dolphins front office. -

Now, if you don't like the fire that comes from Philbin, say so, but don't blame it on Aponte... -
Try reading again, dimwit:
"Is it right for a capologist who handles other "internal" situations like the Jonathan Martin mess"....
Did it sink in this time? If not, give the article another look and see if you can learn something.
"After 15 years with the Jets, she was hired away by the NFL office, where she spent three years serving on the league’s management council as the vice president of labor finance. Aponte represented the 32 clubs in dealings with the NFL Players Association on salary-cap and other labor-related matters.
She has taken on more responsibilities of late, helping to guide the team through the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin bullying scandal, and often prepares Philbin before media conferences, displaying her lawyerly protective nature."

You are making it sound like she is capologist who decided to do other stuff around the org. She is not, she is the vice president of football operations
But yeah, I'm the dimwit that can't read. Ok, jackass whatever. -
To be clear:
- I'm thrilled that Irealnd got fired
- I'm not a big fan of Philbin as a head coach
- No one I know is a big fan of Armando, but multiple sources, including Barry Jackson, are reporting the same basic picture in terms of the in house dysfunction. Wake up. And if that's not enough, the interest in the Dolphins GM position is so lukewarm that it's an embarrassment. Again, Ray Farmer chose to remain in CLEVELAND as an ASSistant general MANager instead of becoming the General Manager of the Miami Dolphins. Try to explain that one and then multiple other candidates saying thanks but no thanks. It's easier just to use Aponte being a woman as the crutch of an argument, right? -

Personally, I think that the guys are bailing because of the way Ross is going about doing the interviews. I think depending on who he is interviewing and what qualifications they have, is how he explains the power structure to them. That would explain why there is a question by some of who is responsible for what in the organization on the FIRST interviews. Remember that was why Wooten of the FPA got involved until he spoke with Ross. Some of these guys will want "football czar" powers and Ross is bound and determined to NOT let that happen. That's what got us into this mess (in his opinion). I don't know what the answer is any more than anyone else on these boards but I think that the dysfunction is over blown and the process that Ross is using to get the guy hired he is comfortable with is causing the ongoing perception of that dysfunction. But that doesn't mean he's not doing it the right way...that remains to be seen. -
I'd thank you for making a contribution to the thread, but you haven't yet. -
She is not the capologist who handles other internal situations, she is the vice president of football operation who handles the cap.

Until you understand/accept/acknowledge/grasp that very effing basic concept, you should probably shut the hell up about the topic and stop insulting everyone with your insipid drivel.
Since she's doing EXACTLY what a VP of football operations does, that means your continued hate campaign is either because she's a woman or you're off your meds. Two Tacos likes this. -

I don't know his reasons any more than anyone else does or any of these guys reasons, although some are pretty sound (DeCosta, Gamble, for example). All I'm saying is that Ross is the only guy who'll get this worked out and he's still in that process.
What I don't get is why the local media is so anti-Dolphins in their reporting. Darlington was the last guy we had here with any scruples about them. I don't trust Jackson either, remember he was part of 'high-five gate' as well. Hyde is probably the only local guy here that isn't on another agenda. But when this storm gets stirred up about back-biting and in-house fighting by one guy, it just gets repeated round and round and no real substance is being reported...These guys are all reporting what the other wrote, not really getting to the bottom. And we all know that Ireland was in Mando's ear, but perhaps he was in Beasley and Jackson's ear after getting canned ?? Would that be a shock to anyone ?? If I were Ireland (God forbid), I can see where he thought that the was being used as the scape-goat for every loss this team has had since JJ left... He's had a hate-fill tenure from the local press and fans. No matter how you personally felt about Ireland, he was used as a reason for every bad move, every loss, every bit of dysfunction that ever came out about the Fins, particularly since Quitcells left... He's lashed out after being canned and can explain a lot of the bad press that has come out... It's just too easy to blame all the dysfunction on a person in the organization who is a capologist and accounting bean for Ross...
EDIT: No disrespect to accountants...they are a needed and necessary part of the organization...lol -

Jerry Jones would hit a $250 million cap if it existed. -
Having an incomplete roster with 8 starters' contracts expiring simultaneously is a quick way to free up cap space.
