I certainly wouldn't want Mangina or Mora. If we do happen to move on from Cambell, Little Shula may be a good choice.

I can only imagine the fallout with Don Shula and the Dolphins when they ultimately have to fire him
The only good thing is, he would be a coach that, if we want, we will get. Can't see him turning down the Dolphins, a chance to coach his dads team -
-
Ive been talking him up for weeks now.. Look what hes doing in Carolina with Newton, not a receiver worth a damn since Benjamin is injured they have Ginn and Cotchery as the two receivers. The only real weapon is Olsen.
Mike Shula is definitely seasoned and ready for a NFL job and we should give him that chance. This has nothing to do with his fathers history here, hes going to be a head coach in this league soon because hes damn qualified.
I would have hated the hire back in 2007.. Not today though, hes a much stronger candidate today than 2007 because he has developed his coaching abilities a number times over.Fin4Ever, Sceeto, the 23rd and 1 other person like this. -
I think Mike would take the job since he's already interviewed for it twice before. Unfortunately though, all the other names being thrown around are either not going to be interested or headed to another team. It will be very hard to convince anyone to take over the Dolphins with Tannenbaum with his own agendas, the inherent cap issues and an apparent lock at quarterback in an offense that can't generate any yards. It's a fool's errand in a win-now league, and most coaches aren't going to stake their reputation without a good bit of the final say over the roster.
So in the end, I think Campbell and Shula are the only two legitimate candidates, and of course Campbell is out of his depth in many ways. But it may make more sense to keep Campbell for another season if we're not drafting a QB early, which will give the next coach a chance to evaluate and choose his own quarterback in 2017. Besides, the '16 QB class is a lot deeper than '15....so it almost makes sense to hold off a year if we don't have a top-3 pick next season. -
Sounds like a fairy tale ending don't know how it would play out but it could work if they find a extremely good Def coordinator that wanted to be along side.
Not sure who's responsible if it's Cam or Coach but in my eye's he has started playing QB this year not trying to be a one man team so much.Sceeto likes this. -

just have to respect how he has built that offense around the signal callers stregths, like for real..college running system, not afraid..my kinda guy in that sense..
will be fun to study his character and leadership if Campbell is not retained. -
It's a wonderfully romantic notion, Legendary Coach Don Shula's son comes to Miami to return his fathers team to glory. Hollywood movie stuff.
Drop Shula from his name and is coach Mike qualified to lead this team as head coach? Is he the absolute best choice out there or is he just the latest hot coordinator name buoyed by Pro Bowl talent (Cam Cameron)?
It seems to me he has been around long enough and his resume is strong enough that he at least warrants another look, but is he the best choice? -
-
I think Shula is one of those coaches who is solid as a coordinator, but won't be a winning head coach in the NFL.
He certainly isn't on my personal radar as the next Dolphin head coach and I think there are better options out there. Of course I never like the hiring of sparano, Cameron, or Philbin.
So based on my previous views toward our last three head coaches prior to hiring them. That must be a guarantee that Mike Shula will be the Dolphins next head coach. -
I don't hate the idea if only cause the panthers offense, unbelievable qb aside, plays to its players strength. Ted Ginn drops as many big plays as he makes, but somehow the man's always open regardless. They stick to the running game, utilize the qbs mobility, go deep often. These are things we haven't seen from our offense this season.

Hahaha! !
That was awesome. -
ive said this b4 and ill say it again... Cam Newton....
the clear mvp...
last year shula was close to being fired because he was too conservative and did not take shots downfield and wasnt playing to Cams strengths...
he fell into the job after chud left and it wasnt pretty.. he was marked around here in charlotte as the reason Cam cant get over the hump...
he was the reason Ron Rivera almost lost his job a few years ago.. i dont see him being any better than philbin...
he is being praised right now but not for his game planning but for taking the reigns off of Cam and letting Cam do what Cam does..
i know its hard for some ppl to handle but Cam Newton is the best QB in the league right now..
Mike is the beneficiary of Cam and not the reason.. Ken Dorsey is the reason Cam is doing his thing and i can see Ken getting a OC job eally soon...number21 likes this. -
There is absolutely no truth to anything you posted there.
The fact is that Rob Chudzinski and Cam Newton did not have a great relationship. Rob was more interested in running his offense than he was with finding a way to best utilize Cam. When Mike Shula took over, he made it a point to build the offense around what Cam does best. Mike Shula has never been close to being fired in Carolina. The progress that Cam has made isn't because Cam is this all world quarterback. Most NFL coaches would have tried to make him a drop back passer, and he would have failed in most systems. Mike built that system around Cam's ability to run and his ability to throw on the run. As a result, Cam has built up his confidence and has become better in some aspects of throwing from the pocket.
Mike is a coach that clearly gets the philosophy of building around what you have. He got that much from his dad. -

I wouldn't hate on Jim Mora either. I mean if we are counting Daddy's into it, might as well get brian Schottenheimer in her too.

I'm very apprehensive about Mike Shula being our head coach... but I don't know... Maybe The Dolphins and Shula name just go together like PB and J. Maybe it's Destiny...

Last year Lazor was a revelation, this year he was terrible.
How do we define the OL being fixed and better a OC if we can't measure pocket escapability? Is it possible that a better OC does better with a better QB? Or does worse with an underperforming QB? Or is it all on the OC?
Again, I agree with you that our OL needs to be better, but I still can't wrap my head around how you account for QB's with a better skillset in maneuvering around in the pocket than Tannehill, which I feel is his achilles heel. -
-
You tell me what you think our offense would like with average aggregate oline play and OC who can adapt. Same, worse or better than now.
I also never said the oline was fine. I said we needed average play at guard to compete and that we didn't need all world talent and the price that comes with that at guard. There's nothing that has changed that or disproven that. Get your facts straight. -
A lot of the arguments about Tannehill not being able to move in the pocket seem to ignore the truism that for a quarterback to maneuver in the pocket, there has to be one. Somewhere recently, I seem to recall seeing a stat that bespoke that Tannehill had the least time of any quarterback to backpedal, scan the field, find the open man, and begin to throw. Bejabbers if I recall where it was - I don't have time to get up here much anymore. (Doesn't mean much, still the same old argument from 2001-2004, just the names have been changed!)

I get jealous and it just slaps me hard with how much this team needs to upgrade it's OL.RevRick likes this. -
I said when Tannenbaum came here Mangini would be our next Head Coach.
Mangini built that defense in New York that Rex destroyed. When Mangini got fired the defense was #2 in the NFL. #1 the next year when Rex took over then down in the 20's until Rex was fired.
Mangini would make this defense great and Mike Shula would do wonders for our offense as Offensive Coordinator.
2 years and we are competing with New England for the division title
