Looks like we are in for another crazy Hot Stove offseason. So far we’ve already seen a record setting deal to keep Edwin Diaz in a Mets uniform, the World Series champs dismiss their GM after offering him a low ball contract, and the Dodgers keep their iconic ace on a 1 year deal.
Let’s see what my Mets do to finally get over the hump.

Good luck to all of your teams!
The Cubs positional prospects are all years away from making an impact at the MLB level, and I cannot believe how many Cubs fans seem to be content just punting on every season until they get to Chicago, only signing mediocre players to free agent deals and just accepting not being any good, or else hoping for miracles.
Personally, given that the Cubs are one of the richest teams in baseball and only have payroll commitments of 91m in 2023, 69m in 2024 and 26m in 2025, I want to spend when there's a good free agent class to do it with. My dream scenario is to sign Bogarts to play 3B and Turner to play 2B, and match with with our best current player Nico Hoerner to have a good infield made of guys who can square up the baseball and get solid hits regularly.Boik14 likes this. -
I want Turner for either CF for Nym (if Nimmo leaves; I would not give him more then Marte as he's simply not a better player and more injury prone) or (2B if Nimmo stays). Rodon would be the most logical replacement if Degrom leaves (which I hope he doesn't but continuously throwing 100-101 isn't sustainable and has lead to his injury issues imo)Unlucky 13 likes this. -
I would like to see the Mets get Judge if he is to stay in NY.

Losing Degrom sucks...
Replacing him with Verlander does not! 2 years/86M and a 3rd year option.
Crazy to believe that a team can get better losing the best pitcher in the game but just by virtue of being healthier, that may be what just happened.Stitches and Unlucky 13 like this. -
There are new rumors this morning that the Cubs are hot on Bogarts. Fingers crossed, as I'd love to have him. The budget room should honestly be there to sign both he and Turner, but for whatever reason the team seems very opposed to committing to long contracts any more than they have to.

And the last time that we developed a guy who made any difference in the starting rotation was Jeff Samadzija, and he was only a starter for two years in Chicago after starting his career as a reliever. The Cubs actually drafted him back when Dusty Baker was manager, and he came up when we had Lou Pinella. We finally won the title in 2016, but those teams a decade earlier were good too and a lot more fun to watch.Last edited: Dec 6, 2022 -

New MLB Power Rankings at Bleacher Report. They have your Mets at #4 and Mariners at #8 guys. Cubs down at #19 feels even generous at that point.

The NL Central is a pretty good Cardinals team and then a bunch of trash, and a lot of Cubs fans are convinced that ownership is counting on an inflated win total due to a lot of games vs the Reds, Pirates and Brewers will make people think that Chicago is better than they are and be happy. -

I'm very jealous. Since the current system went into place the Cubs have acted like exceeding the limits was the equalivant of suicide. Just something that was unthinkable and cannot be discussed whatsoever.
Word is Cubs GM Jed Hoyer just flat out refuses to go more than 6 or 7 years for any player, no matter how good he is. When other teams will offer more, it just automatically eliminates the Cubs from contention. He held his line in the sand and let all of the previous core go as well. Basically saying "We'd rather suck than commit long term to anyone", and Cubs ownership only care about profits, so it won't change unless the cash slows down.Last edited: Dec 11, 2022Boik14 likes this. -

After dealing the Coupons ownership the last few decades, Cohen has been a blessing. No question about that.
But connecting the dots here...Eppler signed Ohtani to Anaheim when he was GM there. Ohtani and Senga were teammates in 2017...make it happen Eppdawg (ohtani is FA next year)Attached Files:

I've gotta say, that as perturbed about what my team has done to improve themselves, I'm really excited about the new scheduling format, where each team plays one another every season. I have long been a fan of disolving the NL and AL and just being MLB, and this is a step in that direction.
The Cubs play @ Oakland, Minnesota, Houston, Anaheim, the Bronx, South Side, Toronto and Detroit, all in the same year. And the only thing lost is a few series vs the Reds, Cards, Pirates and Brewers. I haven't looked over the rest of the teams' schedules yet, but I love that the Cubs have a lot of 2 home series, 2 away series, repeat. Only two sets of 3-series road trips all year, and they come close to one another in the first half.Boik14 likes this. -
13 years for Correa!?
I think they'll not like those last 5 years at a minimum.Boik14 and Unlucky 13 like this. -

13 for Correa with his back issues that are ongoing and his injury history is just moronic. There were rumors the Mets were going to move on Correa and I'm glad they didn't at that cost.Stitches and Unlucky 13 like this. -

I wanted Bogarts. I wanted Turner. I was good with signing Correra. If none of the above, I was tolerant of sitting it out, sucking, and going into next offseason with a bunch of budget room. Now I guess I have to cross my fingers that Swanson is more than an average to above average hitter, and his skills don't erode too quickly as he moves into his 30s.
If everyone is healthy, the Cubs should have a 1-2-6-7 hitter now, at least. Then mediocre Wisdom and Happ as placeholders at their positions. We don't currently have a first baseman, and our catcher is Yan Gomez, who's far better served as a backup. DH will likely be by committee, unless someone steps up in the OF and Belliinger or Happ just hit.

How cow, I just saw about Correra to the Mets. I thought that SF was a done deal, but I guess not.

Biggest question to me is what happens with Baty. He's a top 20 prospect in the game. I guess he and Correa could share DH/3B with Alvarez working in at DH as well? Or move to LF long term and move on from Canha? Or is he the centerpiece to a package for Ohtani? I'd love to see him keep developing as I think he's another David Wright type player (Wright was a big question mark on defense making 30+ errors as a rookie before winning a few GG awards).Unlucky 13 likes this. -
It's been 19 hours since the Mets made a move dumping James McCant (and eating 19m to do so) and signing some minor leaguer I never heard of.
This is completely unacceptable :chuckle:
Such a welcome change from prior ownership.Unlucky 13 likes this.
