He just talked about it on SportsCenter. Says there are internal discussions about signing both guys.

I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. This could be taken in so many ways. The national press are rarely correct when it comes to us this time of year. So who is putting out the misinformation and what purpose does it serve?
It ramps up fan expectations / enthusiasm with the team. Which is good and bad. "we" can't say they didn't try if they fail to sign either. Of course not everyone will be satisfied no matter the result.
If we're negotiating with our own guys, it may put pressure on them to sign sooner rather than later. Obviously that's going to be some large amount of money going elsewhere for both receivers, and all of a sudden $40+m in cap room becomes much much less.Ophinerated and The Rev like this. -
The problem with signing both is that you would probably have to sign them for the same amount. I can't see Jennings signing for 7 million if Wallace has signed for 10 million. Money is a ego thing for athletes so I'm sure both players would want to be "respected" with the same amount.

I'm picturing Ireland even contemplating offering that much cash in contracts to Wr's..reaches for:

Someone called it, so to speak. I believe they made a thread toying with this Idea.
Although 1). I'm not against this at all. and 2). I think it IS perfectly 'possible'
I just really don't see it happeningOphinerated likes this. -
I really hope we do it. I believe Jennings can be had for 1 to 2 mil. More the Heartline and make the splash with Wallace. Then Draft a receiver and TE and we will be set. Spend the rest of the first three round picks on D. I believe that will put this team in a real fine position to compete for the foreseeable future and then we can continue to build upon this.

nothing says "Win now" more than "Sign all the things!"

I think signing both would be a complete waste of resources, particularly when one has had injury problems and the other doesn't fit what the coaches want in a receiver. It would be a move to add flash to placate the fans and a fan owner.

Would be the worst offseason in franchise history. Grounds for someone to be fired.

"Internal discussions" =
Jeff Ireland: "Maybe we should think about adding both of those guys. They'd work pretty well together."
Joe Philbin: "Yeah that would be great but that's sort of, ya know, your call, uhh...on whether or not we can afford something like that..."
Jeff Ireland: "Afford it? No, no. We can't afford it. I'm just saying it'd be great if that could happen."
Joe Philbin: "Uh huh. So...I've gotta...you know...alone, if possible..."
Jeff Ireland: "Oh, you want me out of your bathroom stall? Oh ok. I'll wait for you down the hall."anthony0187, calfishman, DOLPHAN1 and 13 others like this. -
That pretty much sets it in stone we won't get either now.

Boooo! What this team needs is more high character lineman!

Joe Flacco had to score 30+ for the Ravens to win the Superbowl. I say do it. We're on the cusp of what? More mediocrity? Keep Bush, make him return punts and use him out of the backfield more often. Be as dynamic as possible.
What do we need, more interior d-lineman to stop those 4 yd runs?Aquafin, Ophinerated, ToddPhin and 1 other person like this. -
I don't think it would be disastrous, but I'd be a bit concerned.

If true, I don't like these leaks. If not true, if it's a smokescreen, then how aggressive are they?
I hate all the FA talk when it's still weeks away from happening and there are still franchise tags out there for some guys (not saying these will get them). And, it just ramps up expectations and demand for the players.
I just don't see any good from this either way. -
Jennings is a great fit. He's the guy to go after in free agency. -
So what this means is Miami's receiving corps is actually going to consist of Bess, Binns, Hartline, Matthews, and a late round pick or David Tyms.
This time of year is fun for everyone.Ophinerated and Boik14 like this. -
You've got to be able to pay for them, you've got to be able to utilize them, and you've got to account for the very high percentage of free agents who bust. That should realistically be concerning. -

I doubt it will happen. From a pure football point idk if I'd want it to happen.
But I like that we're thinking this way... -
Armando has been advocating this for months.

If you sign Mike Wallace for $11M a season, he has to produce among the top-3 WRs in the league, or he is a negative value-added. -

I am 100% for this, if of course it happens which is doubtful. Wallace is still a young guy, and this lets us address other areas such as CB and OL in the first 2 rounds of the draft. Get the WR position stacked during FA and worry about other positions in the draft. Also gives us wiggle room to draft more of a BPA type of strategy in the draft.
-
Oh, and Wallace has been asked to run these routes before, but he's so bad at it, that they don't ask him to do it much despite the fact that they have spent the last three years trying to get him better at it. He rounds off his routes, doesn't run them at the proper depth, and sometimes just jogs into his route when he knows the ball isn't coming to him.
Again, this is not an offense that has one receiver that just runs vertical routes.
